Cinnamon P.
Prob a top ten for the whole decade, though I prob wont do the real list. Thought you guys should all know what I thought about it.
pigfuck
Glad to get your thoughts on this, Cinnamon Pooter. I agree with your sentiment, of course.
Montana
I'd like to laugh at what you said
but I just can't find a smile
I wonder why you can't
I struggle with myself
hoping I might change a little
hoping that I might be someone I wanna be

looking out I want to know someone might care
looking out I want a reason to be there
cause I don't know what I've done to deserve you

-----

I could try
But don't know what you hear
'Cause in my heart
You were so clear

The taste of life
I can't describe
It's chocking on my mind
Reaching out I can't believe
Faith it can't decide

On and on I carry on
But underneath my mind
And on and on I tell my self
It's this I can't disguise
Oh can't you see
Holding on to my heart
I bleed the taste of life

---------

You turn myself to me
and recognise the poison in my heart
there is no other place
no one else I face
remedy, we’ll agree, is how I feel
here in my reflecting
What more can I say?
for I am guilty
for the voice that I obey

Jim Morrison wouldn't have used those lyrics......

Album sucks, and the horrible 7th grade Trapper Keeper lyrics don't help.
Cinnamon P.
Jim Morrison was a detriment to people who believe they were artistic for years. Anything that doesn't sound like something Jim Morrison said is already above average in my trapper keeper.
السلام عليكم و رحمة الله و ب
it's good

never feel like listening to it
pigfuck
Jim probably sucked some dick in his life, Monty. Are you ok with that?
Cinnamon P.
yeah, me neither really. Felt like it tonight though and woo baby it was still good.

quick top ten for the decade in no order:

Sung Tongs
Tired Sounds of Stars of the Lid
Endless Summer
The Glow pt. 2
You Forgot it In People
Agaetis Byrjun
3rd (not sure I believe this now that it isn't playing anymore)
something
something
seomthing

pretty laughable list to be honest.
pigfuck
list is good, but definitely suspect.gif
Cinnamon P.
more like pitchfork.gif m'rite? I'm sure I'll stack a few "difficult" accessible records and some more ambient shit on there and make it well rounded.

Portishead's albums get better and better imho. Third amazing, and quite possibly in my top 3 of the decade.

also I think I've decided that Montana is -to me- the most irritating SOMB poster.

It's funny how you always think you've scored a takedown when you use this technique (post lyrics, post witty metaphor supposedly relating to them, cap it off with a smiley) to critique music.

And you listen to M83, who's the king of doing what you're accusing Portishead of doing. But since when does reality figure into your opinions, I guess.

Pretty safe to say if I tried to hear the lyrics when listening to either Portishead or M83 I'd be entirely turned off. Hence, I don't.

First album I bought after my musical "transition". holds a special place in my heart.

It is a really good album. Would be top 20 this decade... had it been released this decade. wink.gif

Well considering the internet wasn't really a factor then I guess I'll have to give you this one. But if another great album has a shaky release date going into next decade, then I simply won't stand for it. u_u

i don't think third is all that great anymore. it's brilliant, but that doesn't mean i want to hear it. montana is right, the lyrics are dreadful (in a good way, i suppose, in that they are overwhelmingly miserable, which can be a good thing, and the way they are delivered is spot on), making it pretty much unlistenable sometimes. but it's so well put together. whatever, i haven't listened to it in months, and i probably won't hear it again for a long time.
Cinnamon P.
Play it now you baby.

I don't even like music made after 2004 for the most part really. There was a peak and then a 5 year recession.
C.I.
impressive record, but only turn it on if you want to kill a good mood.
The Luscious Phil
Poots, why on earth would you play this record in the summer months?

Cinnamon P.
It has rained in Boston for the past 15-20 days in a row.

exactly. "dummy" is so lush and sexy, this album is haunting in the extreme
Wolfgang
I rocked this album on the 4th while eating watermelon soaked in vodka before going to a party, still great.
HandBanana
Hasn't lost even a single drop of it's power.
THIS is what happens when everything fits into place.
A perfect vector of statement to technique to craft to emotional heft to resonance to effect on listener AND the live show perfected and built mighty tides out of all of it.

Third only gets better with time.

This is thr record Thom Yorke wishes he could make.

Dudes... I just realized Grouper was the best album of 2008. Sorry so late. Amend my vote.

Seriously Vamos... I really for real think this was the best thing.

Why the fuck is it a stereotype that black folks like watermelon and fried chicken. That's retarded. Anybody who doesn't suck loves those things. Fuck that crazy shit.

i hate watermelon (or any type of melon). fried chicken is ok but i'd much prefer any other kind of non-fried chicken. but it's been a while since i've had that since i'm vegetarian. sorry i suck sad.gif
Ned
^No dude. You're awesome for recognizing the suckiness... and in so, not being sucky at all. You good folks. But really.... I wish I were eating fried chicken stuffed with watermelon.

Close to how I feel. I would say everything Weezer has released this decade would show up in at least my top 20-40

Watermelon and fried chicken shant be hated. Never. In fact watermelon has the power to instantly revive my mood.

KFC though has the power to instantly send me into a hour or two of violent depression.

theres a reason they call it food porn
i'd love to have something like the Fat Koko or Brian Burrito
Shackleton's Great Adventure
There's some vibrancy and spark to most Radiohead recordings, Third is just heavy gloom and doom. Maybe Thom does wish he could make Third, but I think we're all better off with him doing his own thing.

new track available, all proceeds to amnesty international.

but not to anyone in australia. bummer.

can anyone hook me up?

Came in here to pretty much make this exact post. Wow. I was expecting some weepy throwaway, you know, typical charity stuff. Holy shit.

I had that post ready as soon as I saw analog knob twiddling, i.e. the first three seconds or so.

Terrible.

"Here woman. You sing sorrow over your Heineken while I present standard synth background."

And the lyrics? holy shit are they bad. Jim Morrison would have thrown these away.

"holding off tomorrow's sorrow"?

hahahahahha

Good to know you still board here day in and out.
