The Cubs announced today that the newly renovated Wrigley Field bleachers will be officially named the "Bud Light bleachers."

We're excited to offer this new feature – the Bud Light Bleachers – to Cubs fans," said Tony Ponturo, vice president, Global Media and Sports Marketing, Anheuser-Busch Inc. in a statement.

"The bleachers at Wrigley Field represent the ultimate fan experience in Major League Baseball. We are proud to have the prestigious Bud Light brand join us in this partnership as we enhance our fans' experience," said Cubs marketing guru John McDonough in a statement..

Damn. I guess you and the replica trophy won't be appearing together on that dvd Little Jess is putting together.

Duff.
Just waiting for the entire damn stadium to be called "Budweiser Field."

I don't really care about baseball anymore, but this crap always pisses me off. The guy has the nerve to allude to the "storied" history of team their pissing on. What a buncha crap. Fuck corporations.

This is my favorite part. You know what would really enhance the fans experience? Winning.

They need to tie that in to a T-Mobile promotion:

"Just dial *73920483750309 on you phone and a beer vendor will be right there to overcharge you!"

Yes, that is the ultimate! Watching your team lose is far greater experience than watching your team win the World Series!

The Sox fan experience was going to be the best. It was the 2nd best actually, but they couldn't justify giving the label of "ultimate fan experience" when only 17,000 people show up.

Yeah, the Bud Light bleachers is pretty dumb.

Not a fan of the name, or the expanded bleachers...but isn't Wrigley one of the first (if not the first) corporate named stadiums to begin with? As long as they don't start plastering ads and billboards all over the park...i don't give a shit.

Exactly. I was just about to post something along the lines of.... "Hello? WRIGLEY Field. Not like this is something new folks."

Wrigley is only sorta named for Wrigley gum. I was under the impression it was named for the former owener, Wrigley. Who just happened to own Wrigley gum. The old stadiums/ball parks were often named after the owner, like Comiskey Park

Bingo. It kind of funny though that one of the oldest, classic ballparks in MLB has a quasi-corporate name which is a modern day pox upon stadium names.

See: Invesco Field at Mile High Stadium, Enron --> Minute Maid Park, etc...

F*** the bleachers, has anyone seen Juan Pierre's spring training stats? They're almost as bad as Corey Patterson's. They can erect a giant Bud can in the stands for all I care, I want to see Juan get back to his .300+ hitting form. BTW, anyone see those McDonald's commercials with Pierre?

yeah i saw one the other day with him and some kid waking up a buddy or something. it was some sort of guerilla wake up call or something. way dumb
MattW
I've only seen the one with Bobby Jenks pegging socks at some guy to wake him up.

I'm personally excited about this development. I feel were one step closer to third place.

Hmmm, isn't that the point of being a fan? I suppose your the type who believes that it was the White Sux fans devotion to not supporting your team that led them to win the World Series last year?

Wrigley is a better sounding name than something like US Cellular Field or even worse (whatever they're calling the World Musi...Tweeter Center now.)

United Center is a better name than US Cellular Field even Enron is better.
