Well I got some recording gear for my birthday, so I decided it's time to start playing music again. Everything I'm doing right now is just layers of piano reverb'd (sometimes delayed). Mostly ambient/drone soundscapes, but I've been working on making more structured pieces as of late akin rhythmically to early Steve Reich (not my comparison, but a few friends)

I just finished a song today (that I'll still probably add to) that is very much in the vein of maybe william basinski mixed with windy & carl. I meant for it to be about 5 minutes but when I bounced it down apparently it's 11.
Floating Space

The rest of my stuff is basically just ideas at this point.
http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?gamgjcz1zuh crappy version sorry but this is the more structured stuff I've been working on I just need to figure out how I layer onto that

http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?eyro4yzuwo4 this is just sort of a drone, I will probably add a couple of melody lines to it and maybe obscure the piano even more.

Also, I don't have any idea what I'm doing in protools, so bear with me on that haha.

i like the feeling i got from "floating space." felt like i was inside of an underground plain, the ground is water and it stretches out as far as the eye can see, with big white pillars, reflections from the water shimmering on them.

thanks for listening man. Do you think I should add another layer or 2 to floating space?

i don't know. the way it sounds right now, seems like all that reverb is causing a ton of feedback. it would sound better if there were a little more sharp edges, i would say. the reverb is half of the piece, but i think it would do well to have a bit more discernible detail in the mix that isn't covered up by the feedback.

ok this is the 3rd version of that song I improvised a line over the top and fixed the mix a bit. It adds a much needed higher end to the song.

the new mix is much better. i really like it. you should make a few more tracks so i can doze off/zone out to it (compliment).

OK version 6. I promise this is the final version. It's got some clipping so ignore that for now (I'm working on it). Think of this as the rough draft of the final version I've gotta EQ it a bit to take out the clipping. I'm too busy to do that now so here it is. I changed it a shit ton and I'm totally in love with it now.

EDIT: I didn't add any music to this. I just brought out some lines I had buried.

So this whole 2nd album recording project has been on hold for now. Unfortunately, the room my piano is in has terrible acoustics and I can't move it. I also can't lift the lid fully off the piano causing phase shift issues. I'm just reposting the link of the single track I recorded here.

Guess I'll post this. I decided to improv something just to fuck with overtones and reverb. Quite happy with the results even with the shitty recording situation. If can somewhat remember how to recreate this I think I may turn it into a full blown song of sorts. (This is only 2 minutes)
NewGrass
Well here's something I recorded while black out drunk one night. I don't remember a single thing about the sessions. It's just me and midi controller creating minimalistic ambient stuff. Really good.

Ok this is a really shitty sounding recording. I used my mp3 player and it records to 96KBps WAV. I had recorded my first time playing piano in about a month on the request of a friend. He wanted to hear what I usually do to find ideas. I basically just fuck around until I find a riff that sounds cool and the go with it. There aren't really any dynamics as I'm just improvising and trying to find something, but I really really liked how it turned out. Obviously some ideas fall flat but I usually realize that right away and move on. Lubomyr Melnyk's influence on me is very apparent at times (I think). My main goal as of late is to basically have each of my fingers play as a seperate entity and have gotten very close to it now.

A descent into madness. Like a noisy Stars Of The Lid or something.
Liffey
Realy nice job. On the first track I was wishing it would go a bit heavier, and on Humulin I think the wavering was a bit overboard (badass track though), but really I can't criticize this too much.
NewGrass
So I made a 4 layered improv'd track (1 layer is loop all the rest are 16-20 minute tracks) Super minimal, but always changing moving ambient/drone piece 33:49 long.
