So Torche fucking sucked, but I guess that was to be expected. Fuck yeah Harvey Milk tho!

Harvey Milk kept making fun of them, and their genre of "stoner pop". It's pretty obvious they don't wanna be touring with them.

Yeah, must be kind of an insult to the HM dudes when a band as dweeby as Torche is just as big.
JUAN MONTOYA (Torche) The new album is just brilliant, man. It’s amazing. I love it. We listen to it like crazy. Not to hype up the interview, but it’s true. It’s very soulful, man. You guys are a heavy band, but you guys are so dynamic. I think it’s more than the heaviness that Metallica have, it’s that heaviness that bands like Pink Floyd have.
STEVEN TANNER (Harvey Milk) Uh, you just mentioned two bands that we despise.
MONTOYA Oh, fuck. Who cares?
TANNER Have you heard the new Metallica? God, it’s so shitty.
MONTOYA [sounding optimistic] Yeah, I heard a couple songs. And, you know…
TANNER That guy can’t play drums, man. He just cannot play drums.
MONTOYA I don’t know. It’s weird, because I grew up listening to Metallica…
TANNER Oh, I did, too.
MONTOYA And it’s just, I think they still have a lot more in them. It’s just their lifestyle is so distracting, man.
TANNER I think they should just practice.

I totally overdosed on Torche a while back. Can't see myself listening to them for a long while.

I mean I bought 2 of their albums without knowing a thing about them. They aren't bad, but like it's missing something it's just not that pleasant.

Also, one more thing. Harvey Milk's vinyl prices are ridiculous. $30 for Life and $20 for everything else.

More like, they're missing something good &
unpleasant that would make them less boring. At least that's my take. I do like "Meanderthal" (track, not the album), both live & the recorded version--but otherwise, meh.
Btw, if you're at the show in Chicago tomorrow and see this. . .

. . . it's probably my back patch. Say "hi," I'll buy you drink. I'm geeky & have moderately poor social skills, but I"m harmless--just ask Vivian Darkbloom (the only other boarder I've met in person).

Yeah I meant that as unpleasant. Also, Torche loses even more points for selling cassettes. I mean ok you're a small band just starting up, cool a cassette. They're pretty big though so they're trying to be hip.

Stop being cool kids. Torche was 3 dudes up there hitting hard, having fun and playing catchy heavy rock and not trying to be anything other than what they are. Nothing more, nothing less.

I like Harvey Milk quite a bit more, but it's not really a fair measuring stick. Torche is nothing amazing, but I never took that to be the idea. They make fun records.

I don't like their music, for one thing. I already knew that much. The floor was filled with people who quite clearly feel differently than me.
So what if they "rock" and are "tight" and "have fun on stage." Whatever. Do I need to love Dream Theater, too? Sometimes I can get caught up in the energy of a band even if I'm not specifically there to see them. Wasn't really happening last night, though. First of all, it's hard for to me to rock out to riffs that sound like nothing more than the most MOR mid '90s alternative rock with an amped up guitar tone. Second, they just act like total jackasses up there. Mostly the drummer and the guitarist. All that way too happy rock star posturing, and in the name of some of the dopiest, least heavy music out there. Their fans buy into it, so good for them, but it's the sort of thing that they just can't pull off and it's not going to get them anywhere. Boris can because they're awesome and show some restraint. Torche is three bros from Miami who seem more suited to playing third wave ska revival or starring in Bang Bros videos.
Harvey Milk, however, was fucking phenomenal.

What Paves said, otmfm. I hope you didn't stay for their whole set. I barely made it through one song before I ditched, then as I was leaving some fat chick grabbed me and asked me why I was leaving (she'd been eyeing me at the bar all night.

I go back and forth on Torche. I thought they were boring the first time I saw them, but sort of liked Meanderthal---just not enough to go back to it since last year. They were pretty cheesy on stage last night, but kind of fun--which probably has something to do with (1) how dull the opening band (Young Widows) was and (2) how much beer I drank. In any case, I think it's pretty clear they should feel damn lucky to be sharing a bill with Harvey Milk.
