how much protopunk is there to spin exactly? it's a pretty restrictive genre from my understanding....

Proto Punk is as restrictive as you want to be; it can include '60s Garage Rock, early Glam Rock like David Bowie & T. Rex, Hard Rock like the MC5 & The Dictators, Pop Rock like Big Star & Jonathan Richman, more experimental bands like Pere Ubu & Destroy All Monsters, sloppy, drunken Blues Rock like the Faces (& the New York Dolls under the makeup), plus acts like the Runaways, Slade, Velvet Underground (and solo records by Lou Reed, John Cale, & Nico), Iggy Pop & the Stooges, the Heartbreakers, the Fugs, Rocket from the Tombs, Suicide, The Flamin' Groovies, and Patti Smith.
