OK here goes. In this thread feel free to suggest and discuss the best films released between 1950 and 1969.
The limit here is currently 100 films BUT if enough people feel they can do lists of 150 or even 200 I will strongly consider making those the limit.
Taking the limit as 100 though
1. 1000
2. 750
3. 500
4. 400
5. 350
6. 320
7. 300
8. 280
9. 260
10. 250
11. 245
12. 240
13. 235
14. 230
15. 225
16. 220
17. 215
18. 210
19. 205
20. 200
25. 175
30. 150
31. 148
32. 146
33. 144
34. 142
35. 140
40. 130
45. 120
50. 110
55. 100
60. 90
65. 80
70. 70
75. 60
80. 50
85. 40
90. 30
95. 20
96. 18
97. 16
98. 14
99. 12
100. 10
Again hope this will put an emphasis on ordering the higher end of the list and won't penalise those who submit smaller lists or give a bias to either the films we've all seen or high ranking films on a few lists.
The deadline for votes is
15th May at the moment and the list will be counted down before the end of the month. Again don't expect a list with enteries as long as displayed on previous votes on here. The final countdown for every set will be 150 or maybe 200 depending on votes but the full list of multiple votes will be made available.
Best places to start...

List under construction:
The Court Jester, 1956

The Sound of Music-Robert Wise, 1965

The year next to it in IMDB is the decider (and was last time round). Unless you can make a personal plea for a film based on something you know that they don't, IMDB isn't perfect.

This is going to be a much bigger issue for foreign films when we get to the last couple of eras. There can often be a three- or four-year difference between when a movie gets released in its home country and when it sees a US (or UK) release.

I thought about this and the cut offs are 1970-89 and 1990-2006 so hopefully there aren't too many films from 1989 that fall into the 1990 onwards bracket. If there are we'll deal with them case by case.

(Some trivia for you film buffs out there: the late Fernando Rey, one of the actors in
The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie, plays the French drug dealer that gets away in
The French Connection. When director William Friedkin was casting
The French Connection, he wanted someone else, an actor he saw in Luis Bunuel's
Belle de Jour. There was some mix-up (it's not clear how it happened), and to Friedkin's anger, his people flew in Fernando Rey instead. Rey was kept in the part, but after
The French Connection opened, Rey was cast in his first Bunuel film,
The Discreet Charm..., and perhaps as an homage to his role in
The French Connection, his character is involved in another drug deal.

Time to heat up the movie talk. This was a phenomenal era of fillm. You've got some of the best from Bergman, Hitchcock, Fellini, Kubrick, Polanski, Wilder- not to mention the greatest era for the Western.

Can anyone comment on Julius Ceasar? Does Brando play Brutus? Should I take the time?

Brando is Marc Antony, I saw it when I studied the play. I remember it being above average but not great. James Masonplays Brutus. John Gielgud is great as Cassius.

Just recorded Zorba the Greek last night- considered to be Anthony Quinns' best.
Ugh, I can't enjoy a movie that features a wifebeater (the guy, not his shirt). Can't separate the performer from the performance. Same w/ Jackie Gleason...I'm sure there are many more I'm not aware of, so don't tell me.
