do you rockists need Gaga to go No Doubt on you guys?

took three pages for the "R" word to come out. You don't have to be a rockist to think Lady Gaga is bullshit.
Ned
1st Place: Cherry
2nd: S'mores
3rd: Brown sugar cinnamon (could've contended for 1st, but too overplayed)
4th: Chocolate fudge
5th: Apple cinnamon
6th: Any weird new age type flavor that has wierd swirls and shit on the outer pop tart frosting area
Last: Original strawberry.

I am likely omitting some good shit.
Duff.
The dominant rockist opinion of this thread is "Oh, she plays piano, I can like her songs now."

I can like her songs, and I could give a shit less about her piano. Fucking rockists.

I think she's clearly a Warholian exercise in the limits of pop music. Pretty sure she's in on it as well, see any interview with her for proof.

I agree with this to some degree. The only problem is that her music is completely unoriginal, and in my opinion, not very good. I feel like Weezer does the whole "Warholian exercise in the limits of pop music" thing much better. Would you say Weezer applies?

edit
I don't think I'm a poptimist. If I listen to the radio for more than ten seconds my head starts to feel like it's going to explode. In fact I mostly despise pop music. There is a rare occasion when I'm feeling almost psychotically social and pop music becomes the only thing I want to hear. Otherwise I view Lil Wayne, Lady Gaga, and most of that shit with anything between mild indifference to pure hatred.

Imagine working at Subway and hearing "Pokerface" three times a day. Seriously, what a nightmare.

One thing that makes me feel much better about myself when I'm feeling down is thinking about 40 year old men listening to stuff like Kylie Minogue. I mean, there is no reason that they shouldn't, it's fine, but it still makes me feel good.

If you replace "subway" with "rented jeep in hawaii" it is actually quite heavenly. But I can see where you're coming from. That would be awful.
Duff.
I feel Gaga is better equipped to do the Warhol experience tham Rivers. You kinda have to look the part, at least.
Ned
muh muh muh mah
cheese picture
Personally I think Rivers is more equipped to do the Warhol experience than Warhol was. That's my inner Rivers as a soulmate delusion speaking though.

Also when I think about it, hearing any song three times at work would make me suicidal, so I might be exaggerating.

i think i just realized something about rivers

lol:

"Yeah, we met [Weezer]," says Gallagher. "I like 'em. They're one of those bands you see on TV and go, 'I just like 'em.' I think they're pretty alright."

Gallagher saves his highest praise for Weezer's frontman Rivers Cuomo.

"Very strange man, him," says a bemused Gallagher. "He's my new favourite rock star. He freaked me out.

"He's just the total opposite to me, man. He's just very timid. He's like Yoda or something. But I respect that. He's a top man. There's totally a place for him. He's like the Andy Warhol of fucking music, that's what I think."
Duff.
Maybe I'm not as familiar with Rivers as I thought, but how is he Warholian?
Cinnamon P.
I thought we were finally away from pretending new Rivers was some sort of post-pop ironic/iconic songwriter for a moment there. Good thing Vamos is here to "get into" tons of shit months or years after everyone else stops caring.

I can definitely see the Rilke influence here.

I might not know any more than you, but I guess it's like this:
Andy Warhol brought about the whole idea of "pop art." Campbells Soup cans, and so on. That was largely what he was about. He also did other stuff where he pissed on metal and hung it on the wall. But anyway, the way I interpret it is that Business and Money, and Art, can be combined into one thing. For instance, practical things as art.

With Rivers he took pop music and all of it's characteristics, and turned it into art. For instance, on Green Album, you have Island in the Sun. Island in the Sun is, I would say, the Campbells Soup Can Painting of music. It takes all of these commercial, mainstream musical concepts and twists it into something so commercial that it's not just commercial, it's "art." Rivers has said that he keeps a binder in which he collects all of pop music's characteristics. The music theory of mainstream radio hits. Also I might add that Rivers cranks out those songs with very little thought. Which is kind of like pissing on metal.

What I just wrote is obviously pretentious but there is at least a little bit of truth to it, I wager.
Duff.
Yeah, Lady Gaga is definitely the Warholian pop singer in this discussion.

? I don't care any more than you do, I'm sure. Anyway I don't know about new Rivers. That's a whole area that confuses me.
cheese picture
You cannot possibly fathom how little I care.
cheese picture
The amount I care is estimated to be one billionth the size of the period on your screen that can be found at the end of this sentence.

The Rolling Stone cover of her was hideous.
Duff.
Haha, that's fantastic.

I mean, "Hot" really isn't what's going on there but that's pretty much always the case with this yearly issue.
Undercooked Sausage
poor girl might actually be somewhat pretty if the look they decided to give her wasn't completely fucking revolting.

I might actually enjoy lady gaga if i didn't despise her style and videos.
Threadkiller
Embarassing but, i actually turned my gf onto lady gaga. I had heard Just Dance and Poker Face on the radio and insisted that she check her out. At first she resisted, but eventually she saw the light. And for the record, part of the reason i rep team gaga so hard is because i find her exponentially less annoying than Britany, my gf's other fav. dry.gif

As an added bonus for my gf, gaga is one of the few pop princesses who i dont want sleep with. Man is she ever ug, like the strange hybrid of rihanna, gwen and the entire cast of dark crystal.
Vivian Darkbloom

she looks like a half blown-up sex doll of Bernadette Peters.

I wonder if this hermaphrodite rumor is another Warholian gimmick?
arkin
so is Lady Gaga rockist approved because she sucks authentically?

1:10-1:15, I guess.

Surely she could tape it back if she really wanted to hide it, huh?

Where's Montana when you need an opinion on how to handle a big dick properly?

I saw pix in the new Glamour mag, I think, and there's no way she had an appendage down there.

Ha. Actually, I had been subscribing to the interior design mag, Domino, until it folded. So Conde Nast decided to give me a subscription to Glamour instead. Guess they didn't bother to look at my name.

All sorts of gender confusion in this thread.
