Seriously, it's fantastic.

Just put this on as i refreshed the page. weird.

Sounds good so far. Still been rocking "Beggar's Bowl" since i first heard it weeks ago.
Pygmy
Lucia is the standout track for me.
Pat Sansone
ok, so i've been digging this lately. i wasn't entirely sold on it at first, but i've frequently felt the urge to go back and listen over the last week or so.

i don't think it holds up all the way through. some of the tunes kind of meander and are just generally too long. but there's a lot to like here i think. i can't say i've ever listened to a ton of Polvo. just a few songs here and there. this new one seems maybe more melodic and less math-y? i don't know if that's a good summary. i guess at the very least i need to go back and explore the Polvo back catalog

anyways, i really like the first three tracks especially. are any other sombies enjoying this?
mouthbreather
I didn't even know they were releasing a new album.

Check out "Shapes" from '97. I really dug that one.
paramedicfetus
For whatever reason I still haven't gotten around to checking out the new album.

Polvo were one of my absolute favorite bands growing up....was lucky enough to see them open for pavement when i was in HS.

Today's Active Lifestyles and Celebrate the New Dark Age were definitely my favorite discs.

Really hate this new record. the new drummer is too over-the-top, and the production makes moments a bit too close to nu-metal. Seriously, some of this reminded me of Korn. Nothing will ever top "Bombs that Fall From Your Eyes."
Shackleton's Great Adventure
I find this new disc to be a rather well put together effort in a lackluster year for the genre. Unfortunately I read that the artists behind Polvo are gay, which kind of throws a monkey wrench into the whole affair...

Could you explain what you mean a little further? I'd hate for you to be confused with a homophobe.

I didn't think it was possible for you to become worse as a poster.

This record just sounds really knuckle-dragging to me. It's more about big riffs and drum fills. It's just feels a little forced, bottom heavy, monotonous and wanky. And the songwriting just isn't there anymore, not even the experimentation of "Shapes." It's ok; "This Eclipse" slays me. I have no need for this at all. They made some good records years ago.
Pygmy
Aside from the bigot, I'm surprised people aren't feeling this.
Pat Sansone
i mean, i don't think it's a great album. i think it is enjoyable when digested in parts and i do especially like the first three songs. i guess this is just a product of not really hearing a lot of new Touch and Go-inspired 90s-sounding indie rock music in 2009. i guess i just wish there were more of this kind of stuff these days

I just spent the last 10 days in florida with this album playing non-stop the whole time.

This album rules. Best rock album i've heard this year by a mile. "The Pedlar" and "Lucia" have taken control of my life.
Threadkiller
This thread is an embarassment. And i'm not even talking about the jackass homophobe.

fwiw In Prism is easily one of the years' best. The criticism of this album itt is laughable. Nu-metal? gimme a fuckin break! Lack of song structure? Even with most of the tracks clocking in over 5 mins, all of them are ridiculously tight with incredible highs, and thats coming from a guy who usually HATES prog horseshit. I'll admit that there is some subtlety to the longer, bluesy numbers, but nothing head-scratchingly hard to appreciate. I mean, hell, the payoff at the end of "Lucia" is flat-out euphoria. Also this album definitely needs to be digested in full, not in bits like someone suggested...thats just blasphemy.

It pains me that the best rock albums this year (Horrors, Drones, Veils, now Polvo) are being overlooked, mostly by whiney bitches complaining that 09 sucks for music, and itt by whiney bitches waxing nostalgic.
Pygmy
Well, at least Pitchfork shared in our enthusiasm.
Shackleton's Great Adventure
ftr I made up that thing about the band being gay and I've never heard this recourd.
Pat Sansone
that Horrors record sucks ballz. i can definitely get behind this Polvo record though

This is an unhealthy opinion to have and makes me question your musical tastes.
_______
why does Polvo now sound like metal?
Pat Sansone
this doesn't sound like metal to me. at all.
_______
oh, i still haven't heard the new one, i was just asking why people are saying that.

sorry. need to get on this soon.

Yeah, I was about to say, there's no metal on the album.
zumpano
No metal. That's just way off base. Just some goood old fashioned hard rocking. Whoever said the drums sound like Korn drums must be listening to a bad rip or something. These drums are powerful and do not sound like the cardboard box swat that Korn's did. This is going to be a hell of a concert.
zumpano
New single leaked.

Kinda different...
Minutes Late
Am I the only one who hears a lot of nu-metal on side A? That guitar tone is awful. Sounds like Papa Roach trying to play Yes.
Waves Within
By it's title this should really be a chillwave LP.
Pygmy
The two new Polvo tracks are badass.
