is there a gender-neutral equivalent of "fanboys"?
Ned
Good thread.

Animal Collective. I myself am guilty of adding to the hubbub.
Merle
Maybe "annoying" isn't the right word. Over-enthusiastic?
tjenz
3. Flaming Lips
2. Eagles
1. Pink Floyd
Merle
Over zealous.

Ned
Well, every single thread round here turns into an animal collective discussion by like page 3 or so.

Weezer was a pretty great call. Many many people round here are convinced Rivers can do no wrong, no matter how hard he tries. It's mostly only annoying to me when I start to agree with them. Which is often.
Duff.
The-Dream.
Sunset Rubdown.
Ned
Hahaha... The Beatles. Nice little addition there.
Merle
That was preemptive. I don't actually think Beatles adulation is a bad thing.
Sickpup

Weezer - don't get the love on here for their last few releases.

this is one person, but sure.

Definitely Weezer though.

Bob Dylan. What's truly bad about it is that the people who like him and his music consider themselves to be in the right, in the musical elite, and consider those who disagree as being uneducated and with poor taste. As far as I'm concerned I don't have to know boatloads about classic music to have good taste.

So for me the most annoying fanboys are the REM, Bob Dylan, Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Bruce Springsteen, Prince fanboys. I have dabbled in all of these artists and enjoy and even appreciate them greatly, however they aren't groups I want to spend too much time listening to.

If you don't like it, you can shove it.....

But you don't like it, you love it....

Yeah, as a huge Weezer fan, I have to say that the Weezer fans on this board truly do enjoy some of the most awful crap the band puts out. I don't understand it.
Pavement Ist Rad
Paul McCartney, if the people posting about him aren't me or Sausage circa October 2007.
August West
Weezer without a doubt.
Pygmy
I second Weezer.

On a seperate note:

Weezer have decided to change their direction and become the new Darkness.
Raj (Noble Con)
Radiohead by a pretty wide margin.
Merle
The Weezer detractors always seem more fervent to me than the boosters.
JeffTweedysFatStomach
Weezer fans here are awful.

Also tempted to say Pink Floyd just because of Montana - the dude has really gone overboard in the last 6 months.

I don't think anyone has ever annoyed me more than hardcore Sonic Youth fans, but there aren't any really bad ones on SOMB. I'll go with Animal Collective I guess.

Completely agree.

Green+Maladroit / 2 = 10

Make Believe = 9.5

Red = 9.0

and I "don't give a hoot" because I'm the "greatest man in the world."

A pretty fantastic era.

It's close between the weezer and oasis fans on this board. both bands have put out some of the most monotonous, least dynamic music in the last decade. I get the feeling that the weezer fans don't take themselves quite as seriously, though. The oasis fans, however, really think the brothers gallagher are god's gift to music.... so gotta give it up to the oasis fans.

I've never encountered any annoying Sonic Youth fanboys, so I can't really comment on that.

But in the greater scheme of music fandom, Stones fans are the worst. I've met more than a few people who refused to even acknowledge that other music even existed.
Test
never met a hardcore sonic youth fan either. didn't know they existed. wonder what they'd be like
(i love them as much as the next guy though)

They generally think their music is better than yours, and have no problem letting you know. A lot of them sound like they should be writing for Spin, circa 1992.

All of these threads -- plus "the new Beck" megathread in 2005 (?) -- were total embarrassments and had an inverse effect on my interest in the man's music.

Wouldn't say they're "annoying", per se, but there's a lot of love for Weezer here given how mediocre they are in my opinion.

Jay Reatard and Animal Collective are hyped up pretty hard but, to be honest, I quite like both of those acts myself...
Ned

I think even worse are the new fake deadheads who grew up without even having a dead and so decided to start dicking around and following the string cheese incident or some shit.
