Seems to suggest that 2000, 2002 and 2004 had a wealth of albums that are considered great but haven't been ordained as modern classics in the way that The Strokes, Franz, Arcade Fire etc have been. With singles again 2002 has a strong selection of really really good songs but nonw that really jump out as best of the decade contenders ("Can't Get You Out Of My Head" is 2001.)
So this is backing up my thoughts of 2002 which for me while there are only two albums that are in my most recent top 100 (Original Pirate Material and The Last Broadcast) there are plenty of others sitting just outside of it across a great variety of genres. Even the NME's EOY looked quite good this year bar the top two. Tied into this I have a 2002 double CD best of (which I may make available on here) which has not an ounce of fat on it.
So 2002 for me, what say you but more importantly WHY?
BTW my choice was not based on these figures I'm just throwing them up for discussion. While I disagree with the fact that only three albums this decade are worthy of being in the all time top three I think that those three would be among the first suggested as being near universal suggestions. Same with the singles.
