Don't have anything against Liffey as a person (whatever the hell that means on a message board), and I certainly don't want him to get brain cancer. But, well, "I've seen [his] posts" is a pretty accurate summation of the problem here. I dislike his posting style, as do others, evidently. Dude is pretty harmless really.

Alright, wasn't going to bite on this thread, but whatevs. What seems to be the problem exactly? I know some people don't like that I have favorite albums of the year and stuff... but fuck, I can't really help that too much. Can't believe that alone would make me notorious enough to warrant a thread.

It's because every single Liffey Post usually contains a reference to EOY, some sort of list, arbitrary pitchfork style ranking, etc. It gets tiring. Not to mention when someone posts a list of albums that reaches almost 100 -- only halfway through the year -- and each of them is given a point score, it's just... how do you take that seriously? Do you listen to music for pleasure? Or do you just listen to music as part of some obsessive-compulsive desire to make lists?


Can't believe I am explaining to Liffey my feelings about Liffey itt, obviously I am not thinking clearly.

My ratings are for personal organizational uses. If I post a list with those attached it's probably because I was too lazy to go through and edit them out. The only time that I recall ever posting a list was in the running AOTY thread, maybe once or twice in other threads, but pretty much always in response to other people's lists. And I really see no reason why the amount of music I listen to and whether I like to organize it should be a point of contention as long as I've listened to certain albums enough times to have business posting in the corresponding thread, which I pretty much always have.

No more can I believe I'm having to explain my posting habits to people who make threads like "beatles" and "oh fuck you all" and "omega music awards". And I don't even venture outside of the music forum. I can only imagine what's going on in Etc.

i got this shit back in the day from some of the older posters. it doesn't matter. i look back on my posts and i'm like "yeah that sounds stupid or flat out moronic" but the general difference between me and said older posters is that when i see somebody say something stupid i completely ignore it and move on. it shouldn't have any effect on me, at all. if you see a post that you don't like then you argue with it, but drawing grouchy ass conclusions about a poster because of the stupid shit they say, and then flaming them and being an all around prick is deplorable, cathartic, and generally satisfying for the ego.
