Wondering if anyone else has seen it and if there is a solution:

i've had this problem twice recently: first on the "unusual instruments" and now on the "scary songs" podcasts: when i play them in my iPod, they play only partially. "Unusual instruments" played about 15 minutes, and "scary songs" about 25 minutes. The iPod will refuse to seek further than that. I'm not sure what would cause this. It sucks because both of these were episodes i really wanted to listen to.

I have an iPod Classic 80GB, in case it matters.

Thanks,

glauber

Odd only on podcasts. How old is it?
I have a 2 year old 160 gig. And it's cutting out for a split sec every 3 or 4 songs. I'm sure it's the HD. I've heard the 160's are a bit of a lemon.
I'll clear it totally in next month or so and then load it again but not as much as I have now (about 120 gig) and see if it stops.
But, back to your dilema...I'd think HD if it happened on more than podcasts.

There was a server error. Try resubscribing to the podcast in iTunes, or download from site again.

Corrupted/damaged file, is my guess.

There's some free utilities that will check mp3s, m4a's for errors. MP3Utility - google that.

Forget about programs. Just redownload the podcast. If that doesn't work just Right click the podcast file in the iTunes window, click Create Mp3 Version and see if that'll play all the way through. The new file won't save your position but that's not a huge deal.

Yeah, a few of the SO podcasts cut out early. It may not be your ipod that's the problem.
Some Brilliant Bullsh*t
The scary songs podcast definitely cuts out early - did it to me last night and I was using my desktop, not the 'Pod. Whenever it happens I just go to the home page and listen to their MP3 stream.
The Sheck
Jason said it was a server error that caused the podcast to not completely upload. Re-download it and you should be good.

I'm just confirming it's the Podcasts and not your iPod. You can look at the file size and figure out something's missing. Usually they're in the 40 mb range, but the very two you mentioned were not even half that. I had to listen to the pod stream instead because they weren't uploaded correctly. So no worries about your iPod, it's fine.

Thanks all. I was pretty sure it wasn't the hard disk, but sometimes iPods are finnicky about what kinds of MP3s they play. Usually those cases are fixable by converting to AAC or to MP3 in iTunes, but it didn't fix this one, so i was reasonably certain it was the podcast.

I re-downloaded this morning, and it's playing correctly now.

(To re-download you have to delete it in itunes, then use the trick (shift-click, i think?) to show all available episodes for podcast, and click on "get". Then mark it as new and synchronize to copy it to the iPod.

Thanks again,

Glad you got it fixed.

(And not that I care...) but how has no complained about this being posted in the music section of the board?
