And I don't just mean in gross numbers. I mean proportionally.
When I walk around in large cities (NY, Chicago, etc.) I see way more beautiful women on average than I do in smaller cities and towns. I went to the
Whitney Biennial when I was in New York and literally every other women was beautiful. I had never in my life been surrounded by so many attractive women. It was staggering.
In comparison, if you look at my high school class, which had probably roughly the same amount of women as the museum did that hour, you'd only find that maybe, on a good day, five to ten percent were especially attractive.
What's up with that? Is it just that my tastes run a certain way, that cities attract and reward that kind of woman? More people go outside and socialize in cities while all the beautiful women are behind closed doors in other areas? Modes of dress and appearance that appeal to me are more rigorously kept in urban society? What is going on?

a more cultured environment equals more exposure to better styles and grooming techniques.
whereas, girls in the wutever town, maybe an eighth of them really know how to make themselves look more attractive. and there is less pressure to care. it's peer- pressure in a non- teenage form.

Competition and pressure to look that way I think would have a lot to do with it. I agree with your observation. Go to Paris or Rome and you'll see the same, raised a notch or two. (Or perhaps that's my bias towards European women getting in the way). Hell, if you end up in Prague or Budapest, you'll never want to leave.

there are probably hotties in every small town, but it's a little harder to chase them down. the more rural the area, the less cultural gathering points there are. I guess you'd have to hang out at their church or go to the mall to find them or something. But comparing a small town to a NYC art fair, theres no point of comparison. All these richies make their living at looking swell, the city demands it of them. The more people there are and the more culturally inclined, the more competition there is for the women to look hot.

There's more money and wealth in cities.
People who are better looking make more money and have more wealth.
Men who are wealthier and make more money can get better looking women.
They have kids in the cities who inherit genes for better looks.

Probably.
I also suppose that you might have a little more genetic variation in big cities, and perhaps that could lead to more overall attractiveness? I dunno.
I don't find Chicago to be chock full of particularly attractive women, but if you hang out in the nicer neighborhoods (say, Lincoln Park or Wicker Park), the girls are overall much more attractive than in working class neighborhoods like, say, Back of The Yards or Brighton Park. I really do think it's mostly a function of income and the influence of local beauty standards.
And, as for Wisconsin...have you ever been to Madison in the spring? Yowzah. Who says Wisconsin women aren't hot?

One word: cash.
It's not necessarily always the city though - also check the wealthy suburbs. I live in north Hoffman Estates adjacent to the wealthy suburb South Barrington...odds are if you see a woman getting out of a Lincoln Navigator around here she's thin and looks great.

hmm. not really in my experience. i look forward to moving to a larger city simply b/c population density increases the odds. i don't think i've really found "urban men" to be more attractive, though. on the flip side, i guess city folk in general (well, most US cities at least, possibly excluding some in the south) tend to be more fashionable, which helps. Danes aren't Scandanavian though, they're majority Germanic with some Scandanavian genes thrown in. On the flip side, there's lots of Blonde/Blue/Big Titted German chicks, too, so they've got that going for'em.
