I keep going back & forth on whether to put Phoenix or Shakira at #1.

Maybe this will sway your vote

HRTX
Oh my god.
HRTX
That sure swayed my vote.

3. Florence + The Machine - “You’ve Got The Love (XX Remix)”

Hells yes.
Nick
Don't see Animal Collective inspiring people to do that.
pigfuck
things i dl'd on spec from hairy dicks' list:

some joker shit
LD (which is on my other computer, but mediafire is so much faster innit?)
Joy Orbison
MOUNT KIMBIE
zomby
burial/4tet
guido
kode9

maybe some of those were on someone else's list too, iunno.

really enjoyed the kode9 b-side.
HRTX
Let me know what you think of the Guido. I don't know how someone just sits down and makes that music.
vurt
Get everything Guido related, including his remixes (especially the one of Pinch's "Get Up"). There will be an upcoming Guido blurb for my EOY thingy, and it's sort of verbal bukkake at this point.
pigfuck
just got through a bunch of indie rock on my singles playlist.

amazed at how revolted I am by most of that stuff at this stage in my listening career.

np: Joy Orbison. promising.

Great list as always Ra, but holy shit "Baby By Me" and "Kiss Me Thru the Phone"
Raj (Noble Con)
Special thanks to Bruegel, Madrox, Vurt, GDB, Deej, and the others who recommended some great music. I know there’s plenty of stuff that I missed, but this gets it as close as is reasonably possible at this point. Regarding my top five, I felt like they were all 9.5-9.7 songs and could be arranged in any order, as opposed to last year where there was one 9.9 clearly standing above the 9.5s behind it.

I haven't lived with BBM for very long, so if I get sick of it quickly I'll concede that one (it is only #85, though).

Not sure what the knock is on KMTTP. "Six seven eight triple nine eight two one two" is one of the catchiest things I've heard all year.

"Oblivion" was a single?!!

Paul, here's a whole new list if it's not too late:

7 Flight of the Conchords--Hurt Feelings
6 Spoon--Got Nuffin EP
5 Mastodon--Divinations
4 3 Inches of Blood--Battles and Brotherhood
3 Baroness--A Horse Called Golgotha
2 Cave In--Planets of Old EP

1 Mastodon--Oblivion

If it is too late, please just tack on "Oblivion" at #7, thusly:

7 Mastodon--Oblivion
6 Flight of the Conchords--Hurt Feelings
5 Spoon--Got Nuffin EP
4 Mastodon--Divinations
3 3 Inches of Blood--Battles and Brotherhood
2 Baroness--A Horse Called Golgotha

Completely forgot about this one up until you mentioned it in your thread... damn.

Cheers on high placement for "Pinball." I don't think that track will ever stop impressing me. And a wonderful list overall. Who the fuck cares how much of one genre is on it when all the songs are incredible. I can't wait to investigate the ones I haven't heard yet. And I really need to get on this Nachowelt guy.

whew. first singles list i've ever made. i tried to limit it to songs i'd heard for the first time this year/songs released this year. otherwise taylor swift, t.i. and kanye west would be weighing down the top half of this list. and lust for life would be up there somewhere too. i also weighed those songs which were obvious singles above those which were great songs from great albums. which is why phoenix, the-dream and animal collective aren't plastered all over this thing. if it worked better as a standalone, then it was a worthier single, imo.

that said, song of the year has to be best i ever had. i can't tell me how many times i saw people youtubing that song. massive, massive track. ambling alp is better than my girls. that's just a fact. loba was better than she-wolf too. birthday sex was better than it gets credit for, same for i gotta feeling. in a just world dj quik would have had 4 number 1 singles this year. and dream city is probably the song i most want to live inside. i know that's not possible, please don't remind me.
MuteSuperstar
So am I understanding correctly, if we want to make a change we can only swap out one song for another?

I really need to add Bad Romance and Little Secrets.

And does Neon Indian's "Terminally Chill" qualify? I've seen it mentioned as their first single.
Rob Gordon
No, you can swap out anything for anything. Just make sure you PM Paul in case he's tabbed it.

5. Singles released between December 2008 and December 8, 2009. Anything after that should be considered a 2010 release

-2008 vs. 2009 eligibility is broken down as follows--if you can make a case for it being 2009, you can vote for it. So that includes singles released in your country for the first time in 2009, singles that didn't receive wide exposure or peak on the charts until 2009, or singles that were released in Dec. 2008 and didn't have enough time to sink in before voting last year.

2)Telekinesis - Coast of Carolina
3)Neon Indian - Terminally Chill (still not sure if this qualifies)
4)Carolina Liar - Show Me What I'm Looking For
5)Eminem - We Made You
6)Lady Gaga - Bad Romance
7)Bag Raiders - Shooting Stars
8)Memory Cassette - Call and Response EP (Asleep At A Party)
9)Lamb of God - Set To Fail
10)Passion Pit - Little Secrets
11)Empire of the Sun - We Are The People
12)Stone Gods - Start of Something
13)Dinosaur Jr - Pieces
14)Surfer Blood - Swim (To Reach The End)
15)Washed Out - Feel It All Around
16)Florence + The Machine - You've Got The Love (the only version I like is the one on the A Lot Of Love...EP or whatever it is)
17)Alice In Chains - A Looking In View
18)Goatwhore - Apocalyptic Havoc
19)Passion Pit - The Reeling
20)Empire of the Sun - Standing on the Shore

would have placed if they were singles--<<Passion Pit - Let Your Love Grow Tall (#1), Bibio - Lovers Carvings>>

How did I not know that "Little Secrets" was a single? I may have to do some list revision.

Also, is "Deadbeat Summer" a single? I can't find any evidence to say that it is, but I've noticed people voting for it.

Sweet; does this mean I can vote Kevin Rudolf (UK release date of 'Let it Rock': 29 Dec 2008)?

Yeah but why would you?

Same reason you'd vote for 'Meet Me Halfway', I guess. smile.gif
