It's sort of the latter but also some of the former. But it's also that 'Too Young' is probably a Top 5 Single of the Decade. I do think it was kind of a disappointing year for singles, I'd say just about any of my Top 5 singles from the previous three years would have topped my list had they been released this year.


I actually think 'It's Never Been Like That' is my favourite Phoenix album and the album with the best set of singles. 'Long Distance Call', 'Rally', and 'Consolation Prizes' are all terrific.

It's more of a taster from the album than a single, it's the final track. I doubt it will get a physical release next year with a proper lead-off single in the pipeline and 'out there'. It falls into the same category Franz's 'Lucid Dreams' did last year. Ultimately there's no reason why it shouldn't be eligible though.

mitch, i saw that you had hellhole ratrace on your list. wasn't that released as a single last year (with lust for life)? i'm going to attempt a singles list for the first time and i'll definitely have lust for life on mine if it's eligible.

Fantasy Trashcan put 'Lust For Life' bw 'Life In San Francisco' out in 2009 in the UK. It had been released, like 'Hellhole Ratrace', in 2008 in the US but only small numbers and they have both been released on larger prints this year.

Love that list, not just because that top 2 is very close to mine. So many things I love in there.

I haven't managed at all to integrate pop singles etc into all the techno etc, so massive kudos on that. Enjoyed most of those picks as well.

EDIT: Really was a better year for singles/EPs than for albums imo.

Stellar list heretix, I was going to go through and highlight all my favorite picks but then I realized I was just highlighting all the stuff I had heard becuase all of them were great. Totally agree with the Maybes EP over Sketch on Glass also, if only for Maybes' title track. Definately have some stuff to try and process before I attempt to put my list together, thats for sure.

I keep going back & forth on whether to put Phoenix or Shakira at #1.
