Alright Still

When you name your first album Volume One, coming up with a title for your second album is fairly easy. And Zooey Deschanel and M. Ward are not about to ruin a good thing. She & Him's Volume Two is due March 23 on Merge.

The record contains 13 songs, including covers of NRBQ's peppy-but-sad "Ridin' in My Car" and 50s/60s country-pop starlet Skeeter Davis's "Gonna Get Along Without You". One of the new originals, "In the Sun", features guest vocals from indie-pop group Tilly and the Wall. In a recent interview, Zooey said a She & Him tour is also in the works for 2010.

Click on for the full Volume Two tracklist:

Yay yay yay!
darger
Looking forward to this. First album held up surprisingly well.
Spengler
Well, I'm excited.
n.k
Yeah, count me among those who are excited about this. Volume One has held up incredibly well and I am confident this one will be as good. Plus, having Tilly and the Wall featured is cool as well.
darger
Also, Zooey's version of "Baby, It's Cold Outside" in the shower scene in "Elf" is a personal fave.
zumpano
Count me among the chorus excited for this. Zooey or Matt should post in my NRBQ thread.
solace
this album coming out just as Spring hits will be perfect.

first wasn't amazing, but was very fun and super enjoyable
Campaigner
Loved the first, can't wait for the second!
petras
I still listen to volume one regularly, can't wait for this. I love Tilly and the Wall too, looking forward to hearing that collaboration.

Liffey
Wasn't thrilled with Volume 1. It was fine, and that's about it. It's Zooey and M Ward though, so of course I'm looking forward to Volume2. I hope M Ward gets some vocals this time.
powernotgreed
i slept on the first one, but listening to it late in the summer/early in the fall made me fall in love. i didn't need more reasons to swoon over Zooey, but Volume 1 helped. I hope this is good too!
solace
first song off their new album is more interesting musically than anything on the last album IMO:

not saying it's BETTER than any song off that, just more interesting. i dig the Tilly & The Wall guest vocals too smile.gif
petras
Yeah this new song sounds great. Production sounds a little cleaner then the last album which is good for this type of music IMO.
Rob Gordon
Well that certainly brightened a winter's day.

it's funny that this side project is actually bringing out Matt's tendency to show off his great guitar skills on record more than he usually does.

anyone who has ever seen him live already knows how good he is, but if all you've heard is the records...
n.k
Yeah, great song. I have such a soft spot for Zooey (btw, did you know she was named after Zooey from Franny & Zooey by JD Salinger? That makes her so much cooler, that book rules).
Alright Still

Zooey will also be starring in a very Penny Lane-esque role in a new HBO series based on the life of 60s groupie Pamela Des Barres, of which she will be the executive producer.
Nick
I think now is as good of time as any to get the Zooey backlash going.

Good luck getting that off the ground.

Any HBO show about Pamela Des Barres starring Zooey Deschanel better include copious nekkid scenes unless the show will be rendered pointless.

I love that scene. They play the shit out of elf on Cable near Christmas but I would always watch this scene if it was on.

oh and i'm looking forward to vol 2 as well.

Sordo has link to this. I'm downloading right now, so I don't know anything about it, but I thought I'd let you guys know.

that's just the 'In The Sun' single which was released a few weeks ago (see above)

just pressed play on this sucker. really rather excited about it, and "thieves" is a delightful beginning.

4 tracks in, way more shangri-la's this time around. really great 60s pop.

m ward took til this number, "ridin' in my car", to appear, and he sounds like he's trying real hard to be breezy. his guitar playing is lovely.

Has this leaked?

If so, you should help a brother out...

pretty sure it has not :/
the dude
no, no leak, but i wouldn't be surprised if it came out soon.

it's really, really nice. nothing earth-shattering, but a decidedly pleasant listen.
Alright Still
The b-side to "In the Sun" is "I Can Hear Music."

It's amazing.

"Thieves" is beyond beautiful.

Every time I see this thread bumped I think its because there is a link and I get so excited. Then I get very disappointed seconds later.

Finally picked up Vol. 1 Friday, and am in love with it. Have always liked it, but it's been buried on my ipod and largely forgotten. Now with repeated listens, it has really grown on me, and have loved the two songs I've heard from Vol. 2 so far.

Sorry to do this again, but there's a new vid for "In the Sun". Babe alert!

Uncle Remus
Listening to the album now - it's more consistent than the first album but it's a little samey sounding throughout and therefore a tad dull. I'm at the halfway point of first listen, however, so don't take this critique too seriously.
psdcfc
Wayne, has it leaked or you got a promo?
Rob Gordon
This album and springtime are going to go hand in hand in my world.
No, I haven't heard the album yet.

some might find this video to be nauseatingly cutesy... i am one of those people.
Uncle Remus
I got a promo - full artwork.

I liked the video - Zooey is still real cute, but I admit her weird dietary needs freak me out - and I think she's why the dude from Death Cab looks so weird lately. He's probably on her diet.
Campaigner
She really is one of the most gorgeous things I've ever seen.

Probably at the top of my Celebrity Leave Pass list.

Of course it doesn't hurt that I thought She & Him Volume 1 was one of my favourites of 2008.

This is probably my most anticipated release of the year so far. With this and the New Pornographers coming soon I just know everything has to be alright in the world.

What timing. They're coming to Cleveland and fan pre-sale goes on sale today. Of course I signed up.
