I was watching HBO's John Adams on DVD and I thought to myself "This is pretty good but it's not great." There's not one American Revolutionary War movie represented in AFI's Top 100 or Roger Ebert's the Great Movies One or Two. There are dozens of great 'Nam, Civil War and WWII flicks, what gives?

The Patriot starring Mel Gibson and Heath Ledger was pretty damn good.

I felt it was cheesy. Obviously I meant the title of the thread to include "never" It's not letting me fix it, so?

There haven't been many. Hugh Hudson's 1985 film 'Revolution' with Al Pacino set out to be the Great Film on this subject and is regarded as a disaster. I've never seen it.

I'm still waiting for a great Toledo War film.

I'm picturing Pacino in a tri-corner hat and a pony tail and I could easily see how disaster might ensue

I thought John Adams was pretty great. Wasn't solely devoted to the war though.

I think I'd rather see a miniseries devoted to it something like Band of Brothers. It does seem kind of strange that there aren't any really stand out movies covering it. I'm surprised nobody adapted 1776, seemed like a pretty popular book at the time of it's release.
