You know...I don't mind that song. Everyone seems to regard it as his nadir, but he's had bigger solo turds.

Primitive Cool is his best album. it slightly gets the upper hand over Wandering Spirit. the 80s production drags it down a little bit and horribly dates some of the songs (like this one) but Jagger was on fire with this album. it still holds together well.

"Dancing In The Streets" was the worse thing that either Jagger or Bowie ever committed to vinyl.

I'd give that award to "State of Shock," and replace Bowie with the "other" MJ.

all the stuff that people despise by the Stones and their solo projects, i seem to love.
like these songs right here.

i straight up LOVE all of these songs, and dare anybody to say something bad about them.

People tend to forget that they did it on the fly for Live Aid, not for a serious artistic statement or anything, so some of the curious affectations of it should be forgiven.

you can find most of the originals online. i always bitch about this, but god i hate when they redo the vocals for these updated versions. anyway, here are a few: so young, claudine, and no spare parts
Disc: 2 1. Claudine 2. So Young 3. Do You Think I Really Care 4. When You’re Gone 5. No Spare Parts 6. Don’t Be A Stranger 7. We Had It All 8. Tallahassee Lassie 9. I Love You Too Much 10. Keep Up Blues 11. You Win Again 12. Petrol Blues

Honestly, it sounds like more than just the vocals were redone. Clearly, the vocals were recorded recently. But everything else might be as well, or it's at least polished and punched-up to the point of loosing the loose feel and woozy guitars of those originals. Why, Mick?

It doesn't help that the original has been heavily bootlegged and you've been hearing it that way for decades..."Plundered My Soul" and a lot of that Exile stuff had the advantage of catching everyone totally by surprise.
It's crazy to compare this song to Superheavy, and how much better even these old throwaways are. I think Mick can still work magic if you give him great music to sing over.

some of the remastered tracks and bonus tracks are up on their facebook.
while I do like hearing these new tracks, it kind of makes me wish that they would just make a new fucking album, instead of adding stuff to "lost tracks"
Keep Up Blues is all kinds of great.

ah, but 'lost tracks' from a classic album will always move more units than a new album, isn't it what?

I think anyone willing to shell out for a remastered album they already have, would probably pay $12 for the bands new record.

I'd like a new album too, but judging by the (superb, IMO) results, I gotta believe these finished "lost tracks" are superior to any new product we would get.

They officially released Brussels Affair (more or less - see below) as a download-only release. Mp3's only in America, FLAC's available overseas. $5 for the former, $7 for the latter.
This isn't the bootleg version, which just copied the King Biscuit Flour Hour broadcast, this version has been remixed and remastered from the original session tapes. However, the King Biscuit broadcast mixed performances from the Brussels and Wembley stops of the '73 tour. This new release just uses the Brussels performances, and not always the same take.
Sounds great but I'm disappointed that they didn't use my favorite performance of "Tumbling Dice," which you can listen to here:

hoping that no flac for the states means that it's slated for a proper release.
i have no desire to buy this digitally but i'll certainly part with my hard-earned for it on disc.

I don't think there's going to be a cd release, I think this is part of a deal they made with Google to release some of their archival shows as (more or less) "exclusive" downloads through Google Music. (The Stones are offering the music through their own site too.) There's supposedly four more shows planned for release, though they haven't announced which ones they would be. There's a lot of speculation that they'll be picked from the full span of their career.
fwiw, the FLAC's can be easily found all over the web - I'm sure the Stones would like to sell them in the U.S. and that there's some ridiculous legal/business reason that's keeping them from doing so.

picking that up friday along with the 77 show on bluray / cd that's coming up, so between this and the 'official' release of then brussels affair (the greatest stones boot of all time?), it's quite the fortnight for the greatest rock 'n roll band in the world 'round my way.
this official release fucken SLAYS.
hoping like hell they eventually bundle up some of these on disc. i'll pay for that; no way i'm paying a cent for digital.

i just got these from my dad over the holidays, and man are they great. i've been on a huge stones kick in general this year, and as not tired as I am of their 64-78 output, it does feel like they just dropped another brilliant record in our laps with this release, and i can't tell you how fun it is to be excited by "new" stones gems.
the SG bonus tracks are much more "country" than i would have guessed. anyone know when most of them were written or recorded? gotta guess a lot of them predate the SG sessions... either way, if that qualifier helps sell these tunes or the reissue to other folks, awesome.

From what I understand, all of the bonus disc tracks are from the SG sessions except "We Had It All," which was from the Emotional Rescue sessions (and probably borrowed to give Keith an obligatory lead vocal).
It's funny how country/blues-heavy these sessions really were, and how the finished Some Girls album is so different in flavor. As much as I enjoy the outtakes, I can't imagine any of these songs replacing the ones on SG proper.

^i agree completely. it seems like a different album/mindframe/recording session. very cool to know the band was equally apt at writing SG style songs and SG bonus tracks style songs at the same time.

The second disc is some top-tier Stones. The fact that a lot of the lyrics and melodies are new shows that Mick isn't completely washed-up and talentless, and makes the existence of Superheavy even more inscrutable. It's pretty ridiculous that in the last couple of years the Stones have released singles as great as "No Spare Parts" and "Plundered My Soul". I guess Mick still knows how to write some good shit provided it's on top of some inspired music. Further proof that they're an eternally awesome band.
