That doesn't really sound like an outtake. Jagger's vocal is way too high in the mix, and it sounds like old man Jagger. Like it's a completely new vocal.
Would have loved to hear these outtakes as is with zero embellishments.

The song is certainly better than anything on A Bigger Bang but I have to echo some of the other postings on the vocals. The rest of the songs sound pretty damn good as well. How cool would it be if the Stones brought Mick Taylor back into the fold for a tour revisiting this era?

would guess poster is referring to the fact that some of the songs came from earlier sessions. this blogger gives brief descriptions of each track and their era + some good youtube links. would love to hear the entirety of just wanna see his face. in the comment section, someone mentions jimmy fallon doing an exile week starting may 10. could be interesting.

I just can't see Mick submitting to a strong-willed producer again. I think his clashes with Rick Rubin marked the end of that.
The reason Don Was is still around is because he can navigate between Mick and Keith and get some kind of results.

The Mick Taylor period is considered their great run, Beggars Banquet, Let It Bleed, Sticky Fingers and Exile On Main Street. My favorite being Beggar's Banquet. One can't ignore their work prior though (with Brian Jones), but as with much of the sixties music, it was a bit more of a singles era.

10 bonus tracks from Exile would be amazing to hear. -- The best news I've heard so far regarding the bonus tracks is that it's likely that Mick Taylor has been brought back to contribute to these tracks. -- as Keith says "I didn't want to interfere with the Bible", but if parts of these tracks are a bit too bare bones -- I'm really glad that Mr. Taylor is helping to flesh them out a bit.
It's not 100 percent certain he's been brought back to work on these, but the new issue of Rolling Stone says that the rumor that Taylor will work on the tracks is not being denied by the Stones people -- I think it was Don Was who spoke about it.
That would be great if they really did bring Taylor back to work on these.
Now all they have to do is to announce that Wood is going to "retire" and bring Taylor back in the band. I might be tempted to go see that line up of the Stones. I can dream, can't I?
Reading that just gave me a big boner.
In the new issuse of Rolling Stone (with an Exile On Main Street cover story) Keith says he wishes Mick Taylor was still in the band, and he says how much he admires his playing -- all the way up to the present time; and Jagger recently brought him in for guitar on Plundered My Soul -- which is sounding really good -- so who knows -- dreams sometimes come true -- my dream would include a new double CD studio album with Taylor back in the fold.

1) there's classic 'some girls' in the live section 2) it's a sampler, not a 'best of'. the only criteria was quality. it was an effort to dig deeper into their catalogue. MAYBE a third of their quality material is represented. and it's heavy on the '71-'80 period. so i didn't happen to familiarize myself with satanic, but if it's anything like the hippie shit on metamorphosis i'm sure it's a real letdown 3) i'd be more interested in hearing whether you think any of the songs i selected aren't that good

Heard some of the Exile stuff on XM tonight. I'm not a student of the Stones, but I have to say Richards' interview was cracking-- he's amazingly sharp, despite the abuse he's heaped on himself. He swore up and down that his entire career is based on "Satisfaction"-- play the riff backwards or sideways, and you'll find any number of Stones tracks. Jagger's interview... not so good. He was very random and was trying to sound like a big thinker in his answers to Don Was' questions, and in the process, Jagger did a lot of "um... ah, yeah, like... yeah". The bonus tracks I heard were OK. The Jagger composition "Follow The River" is abysmal (worse than "Angie"-- sorry guys, I hate that song).

Good interview with Don Was on All Songs Considered. It made me reconsider my disappointment with adding new vocals and generally embellishing the newly released material. He says he wanted songs that people would want to listen to again and again and not just some archivist pieces. Plus he pointed out that the L.A. sessions in '72 were used to redo vocals and fix others things from the Nellcote sessions. He just wanted to try and stay true to what original producer, Jimmy Miller, might have wanted.

I've also always loved Winter -- it really shows what the Stones lost when Mick Taylor left the band. ---- Check out the second guitar solo on Sympathy from Get Yer Ya Ya's Out -- amazing !!
Also, while checking out You Tube I found a few songs that are very good from the Stones with Mr. Taylor stretching out -- unfortunately not on the new Exile CD. -- A ten minute plus blues song "Hillside Blues" -- and "Traveling Man" check these out, amazing stuff.
Also found "Claudine" and "Blood Red Wine" great lost Stones songs.
