Rhinestone Eyes - Empire Ants is a killer run ohmy.gif

i would actually go as far to say Rhinestone - Some Kind of Nature.

well done Albarn, well done.
elementus
I'm just starting my fourth listen now and this album is nothing less than fantastic. I don't think there's a single song on this album that I do not like.
Mr.Nobody
This is good stuff, but hard to take in on one listen. I've always felt their albums were much too long. Trim this by about two or three songs and it would be the perfect length. Still the standouts are amazing.
spiritofeden
after 2 listens, Rhinestone Eyes is the best track on here.
monotony
It's a rare day that I agree with Spiritofeden and Liffey, but, well, today's one of those days.
SonicAlligator
Grooooooooooooooooovin'
Rich T.
The first track would be greatly improved by no Snoop.
Crackalacking, really?

Check out the fantastic video for Stylo featuring a very special celebrity guest appearance.

hahaha that is just terrible man. I wish I was as easily amsued. I'm jealous to be honest.
Liffey
haha, vid is pretty terrible but still great.
theremin
For a second I thought it was going to be Clint Eastwood, that would be so amazing.

I like the album but I think the best moments are when Damon is simply singing some catchy pop songs like Empire Ants, On Melancholy Hill, Rhinestone Eyes, To Binge and Broken.

Agreed. I could have done with a less bulky guest roster and more songs like these.

This is a fun album, which is all I ever thought the other Gorillaz releases were, so Damon and co. have done their job again as far as I'm concerned.

You are though. You like this new Gorrilaz album.
spiritofeden
yeah, its fucking sweeeeeeeeeet.
Liffey
I think everyone alive besides Montana can agree that Gorillaz is more serious or dignified or whatever it is you're talking about than Die Antwoord.

Nah. They're neck and neck.
UselessRocker
"Stylo" has grown on me. I think the Bobby Womack bit feels a bit shoehorned in, though. As far as Gorillaz being dignified goes, I'm pretty sure that the "Stylo" video has restored some of the dignity Bruce Willis lost by starring in Kevin Smith's newest pile.

based on a few listens, really digging this. a bit long, perhaps, and not as good as the first two, but pretty neat.

"Dignified?"

You know what I'm getting at.
Pygmy
Sorry guys, but this album is terrible. Maybe 2 songs from this thing could be salvaged if totally re-worked, but really it's all just terribly disappointing.
SonicAlligator
Rhinestone Eyes!
stackcheese
i dont know if its the acid but this is by far the best album i've heard all fucken yearrrr

day tripping to glitter freeze and watching the flowers petals shoot at the rays of the sun

fuck
yes.
stackcheese
and then
some kind of nature rolls along
samsquanch
How much money was spent making this album and paying for all these guests? Seems like he tried to cobble together a lot of hired creativity.
SmashNapCrash
this is fun, fun music.
the dude
listened to this a couple more times today as i was in transit and then someone else wanted to hear it.

it's great fun.
SonicAlligator
Hired creativity? I think it's just how Albarn works when he does Gorillaz albums. He did the same thing for Demon Days.

This album is a blast.
stephen thomas erlewine
not gonna knock this album. there are some great songs, and it flows pretty well, doesn't get boring. but honestly, when is damon gonna bust out another sabali? some songs here almost get the synth sounds right, but without the same depth and creativity.
August West
Wow, maybe my favorite album so far this year. Can't wait til I get off work. Gonna blast this shit.

Agreed about Rhinestone Eyes. Incredible song.
spiritofeden
this is such a wonderful album. I've listened to it pretty much everyday since it started streaming.
Ogawa
I haven't really formed a solid impression of this yet. I mostly just want to keep playing "Pirate Jet" over and over again.
spiritofeden
my impression is that this is the best thing that has come out this year.
monotony
Middle section of this record is just killer. Filled with singles.

"Some Kind Of Nature" with Lou Reed has been my jam the past few days.
spiritofeden
Rhinestone Eyes is just incredible.

the run of Rhinestone Eyes - Some Kind of Nature is just some unstoppable shit.
spiritofeden
realllly interested as to what they have up their sleeves in terms of a live show.

what what I've heard, this will be hitting arenas in North America.
Gluehead
A well-deserved best new music from Pitchfork: http://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/14008-plastic-beach/
The Luscious Phil
Yes, this album deserves is accolades. I would also have liked to see an in depth review.

Was it just me, or is there just nothing to that review?

2, maybe 3 out of the 6 paragraphs were about the actual album. about on par for p4k
SmashNapCrash
I'm throwing my support behind this album. This is just great. I completely agree with other board members (spiritofeden in particular) that this is just great music to explore and has great repeat value.

I was dissapointed with the P4K review. Nothing really solid in that review, and also, i think the album is a 9.0+.

I'm digging, and I won't start talking AOTY until novemeber, but this is ace material.
spiritofeden
haha, that was a terrible review.
Pygmy
Crazy, I've like the Gorillaz in the past, but I'm still not feeling this. I'm also not feeling the hooks others have described.
Shackleton's Great Adventure
wouldn't be opposed to a whole album between albarn & little dragon. they have some pretty good chemistry.
chrisother
the Alex Metric remix of Stylo is what Stylo should have been in the first place IMHO (minus the annoying lazers)...

mediafire.com/?3mj3tmwcw1t

I've gone through the album twice now and there's not a lot that has me interested in another repeat listen beyond Rhinestone Eyes, Superfast Jellyfish and Glitter Freeze (minus the annoying lazers... seriously WTF are so many producers so enamored with lazers and foghorns)
