Did anybody watch the Red Carpet? Clooney was a total class-act, he actually went in behind where all the fans were herded behind a big chainlink fence, and walked along the fence, touching fingers, posing for photos and signing autographs. I didn't see anyone else do this.

In case you were wondering, here's
The story behind Oscar's "Kanye moment" i.e. the "Music By Prudence" acceptance speech.
I was wondering, thanks for clearing that up. It seemed odd.
Re: Clooney. Judging from the body language all night, I'm guessing that he and the gf were fighting. There was definately some tension between them from the red carpet on.
I thought the show was OK. I didn't like the dancing part - does anyone but the composer really care about "Best Original Score?" I didn't think so. And it seemed to go on foreeeeever. I also thought the 5 people talking about the Best Actor/Actress Nominees was very strange. Like it was their funeral or something. Whoever thought of that should be fired. No wonder it went 40 minutes long.
Neil Patrick Harris should really just host everything. He's all kinds of awesome.

Can't say that I followed the Oscars with much interest this year. I'm glad Jeff Bridges finally won one (I know he was nominated at least one other time, for "Starman"). Is the chick who won for Best Director the same one who directed that Kiefer Sutherland vampire movie of the late 1980's? All I can say is she must have been a hottie in her younger days.

I very rarely do "topics of the moment" song parodies. Couldn't really stretch that topic out through the length of that song I think.

So, thanks to The Hurt Locker winning best picture, Ralph Fiennes has now acted in three Best Picture winners (Schindler's List, The English Patient and The Hurt Locker).
Off the top of my head, Jack Nicholson's also been in three (One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Terms of Endearment and The Departed).
Anyone know if anyone else has more?
Edit: Dustin Hoffman's also had three it seems (Midnight Cowboy, Kramer vs Kramer, Rain Main)

I think Tarantino would have pulled it off had he cast someone credible in Pitt's role. Also, the ending. Weak.
Credible? Like, realistic? Cuz that was not what I felt he was going for. I think he cast/directed the European and American actors as if they were in two different films for a reason. The incongruity seemed purposeful to me.

I would disagree with most of that. The acting was competent and in some cases excellent (Weaver, the female native, Corporate boss). There certainly wasn't any performance as bad as Pitt in IB.

I certainly got a tiny kick out of predicting almost every Oscar. Only really flubbed on best picture. I though they would give it to Cameron to make up fpr alimony.
And "Boo-yah" to Bigelow for bringing one home for the ladies. Shit, ever since I saw "Point Break", I knew she had it in her. Not saying that "Point Break" is a masterpiece, more like marvelling at how well the action and frankly the movie, is directed. I know that my pseudo-sexist side was originally a little shocked when I found out that it was directed by a woman.
Nice to see that the times are changing. Hey, just for fun, see how many female film directors you can name. Then see how many black directors you can name.
Seriously-- do you think Spike Lee will ever get his due? It would be a fucking bullshit travesty (IMO) if he's not the first African American director to win the Oscar.

The only way Spike Lee could get his due is with a time machine, so maybe he could get his Oscar for Do the Right Thing or 25th Hour.

^exactly. nearly 1 years apart. and he's only done like 2-3 features since 25th hour, right? unlikely that it will happen (or that he directs another flick as good as those two), but maybe they'll pull a scorscese on him for one of his good later works.
