JC BROOKS & THE UPTOWN SOUND PREP FOR GIGS IN MADISON, IOWA CITY AND AT TONIC ROOM, CHICAGO

Chicago, IL – Feb. 5, 2010. Finishing off 2009 with a bang, JC Brooks & the Uptown Sound wowed ecstatic crowds throughout the Northeast as part of the Numero Group’s critically acclaimed Eccentric Soul Revue. Now the critically acclaimed hard soul outfit is taking their show on the road for highly anticipated gigs at The Frequency in Madison, Wisconsin (March 5) and The Blue Moose Tap House in Iowa City, Iowa (March 6). Upon returning to Chicago, the band will play two very special shows at Tonic Room on March 10th and March 24th.

Born in the great melting pot of Chicago’s Uptown neighborhood in 2007, guitarist Billy Bungeroth, drummer Kevin Marks and bassist Ben Taylor (Beat Down Sound/September Sessions soundtrack) joined forces with the Lowdown Horns to lay a ferocious foundation for the soulful shouts of Mr. JC Brooks. The son of a Jersey funk diva set adrift by the disco era, he’s renowned for his take-no-prisoners stage style, leaving audiences with no other choice than to get up and move!

Brooks knocks his audience out with heart and raw emotion while the Uptown Sound’s post-punk attack updates the MGʼs and JBʼs groove model. The result is pure and unrelenting soul music that ranges from sweaty on-the-one workouts, dance-punk booty shakers, garage rock thump humps and aching R&B ballads without a missed step in between. JC Brooks & the Uptown Sound are not just another throwback group; they formed during an age of war, manifesting their style of aggressive dance music with lyrics that dig deeper than the standard “baby, baby” fare.

The band has collaborated with greats like Syl Johnson, Tortoise’s Dan Bitney, Renaldo Domino and the Impressions’ Nate Evans. They’ve appeared on WGN-TV and BBC 6, cut live sessions for influential indie stations WFMU and KDHX, racked up rave reviews throughout Europe and been featured in the Chicago Tribune, TimeOut New York & Chicago, the New York Times and the Chicago Sun-Times. Following up their explosive debut Beat of Our Own Drum (Vampisoul/Rabbit Factory) with the relentlessly funky new “Get It Together” single (featuring a stomping cover of Wilco’s “I Am Trying To Break Your Heart”), these intense young soul stirrers are bringing it to your door, ready to tour, score and not be ignored.
