I am looking at downloading bof these from eMusic and I was wondering what folks on here thought of these (a two bands-in-one thingie from this Stephen McBean dude). I guess the Pink Mountaintops are touring with the Black Angels this summer--a good enough endorsement for me, but...thoughts/opinions, please.

I like the Black Mountain album more than the two Pink Mountaintop ones, but I really haven't listened to either of those as much. More countryish, droney, psych stuff from what I can tell. Definitely not bad though.
EDIT: I did forget how awesome the cover of "Atmosphere" is on the first PM album is. I always wondered what it would sound like if the Velvet Underground covered Joy Division.

Thanks Alky. And word on the "Atmosphere" cover.
And I found this post/tip from an eMusic user quite informative, especially when the site has the convenient Download All function:
This is a great eMusic find - music like this is what it's all about. For some reason, this band and alter-ego Black Mountain seem practically unknown in their hometown of Vancouver. Check out New Drug Queens at Jagjaguwar.com (free download) and then get the rest of the album here... Spacey stoner fuzz rock with melody and groove!

I f'ing love that Black Mountain record -- maybe more than the Pink Mountaintops one (tho, I haven't heard the new one ... I'm out of eMusic DLs for the month). Either one is a worthy project to check out.

The Black Mountain album is the one for me, although I haven't heard the latest PM. The first PM had its moments, but for me BM blows it away.

PMs 'Axis of Evol' is great in a Spacemen 3-plays-CCR sort of way. Breaking no new ground but well worth your time. Good live band too, they play with plenty of that Gun Club voodoo.

Both bands are fantastic but I do prefer Pink Mountaintops slightly. Their live shows are particularly great. Saw them once perform with just a drum machine.

New Pink Mountaintops record out now, 2nd song is called 'Execution', just made me put my book down and stare at the stereo.
Huge song. Feels like PMs have the relationship with the 60s classic songbook that BM have with the 70s equivalent.

They most assuredly do. McBean could not be mistaken for a man who was afraid to rock.
