LCD Soundsystem's follow-up to 2007's remarkable Sound of Silver is due in the UK May 17 courtesy of DFA/Parlophone. UPDATE: It will be released May 18 in the U.S. on DFA/Virgin.
The nine-track album runs 65 minutes, according to an interview with band mastermind James Murphy that we posted yesterday. Murphy also told us his label is currently deciding between two tracks called "Drunk Girls" and "Change" for the first single. Check out the names of the tracks that will appear on the album below:
Dance Yrself Clean Drunk Girls One Touch All I Want Change Hit Pow Pow Somebody's Calling Me What You Need
So I don't know how I feel about the lead single potentially being called "Drunk Girls." Could be fun I guess! Any speculation about what we can expect (other than Montana posting in this thread frequently and calling James Murphy a faggot)?

exciting news, though I was hoping for a greater leap in maturity in this record. "Drunk Girls" doesn't seem to jibe with that dream....

LCD Soundsystem is a horrible band. They are truly one of the worst creations of the urban white guy blog metacritic internet zombieland we find ourselves in. They have no redeeming qualities of any kind. Their music endures like a bucket of mayonnaise in the cage of a starving black bear. They are for all intents and purposes the Spinal Tap of indie. The lead singer's histrionics are unbearably pretentious. It might as well be Will Ferrell leading this band. At least that's the picture I get in my head when I hear their idiotic music.
Anyone sure that isn't Will Ferrell doing a parody about pretentious indie music? You might want to double check.

The question is, had Murphy replaced "Gil! Scott! Heron!" with "Roger! Waters!", would he feel the same?

Yes I know. only basing that assumption on the fact that "Daft Punk Is Playing At My House" sounds like a song titled such, and so does "Someone Great." it could be an incredible single for all I know.

Yeah, knowing his style and previous work, I wouldn't worry about an LCD Soundsystem song titled "Drunk Girls".
I love that Montana's problem with Murphy is that he sees him as this personification of what's wrong with indie music/culture. And the guy's first hit was essentially mocking that very thing.

i think the song is 50% joke, 50% genuine.
"When I was DJing, playing Can, Liquid Liquid, ESG, all that kind of stuff, I became kind of cool for a moment, which was a total anomaly. And when I heard other DJs playing similar music I was like: ‘Fuck! I’m out of a job! These are my records!’ But it was like someone had crept into my brain and said all these words that I hate. Did I make the records? Did I fuck! So, I started becoming horrified by my own attitude. I had this moment of glory though. People would use me to DJ just to get them cool. They’d be like ‘It’s the cool rock disco guy’ and this was really weird. And to be honest I was afraid that this new found coolness was going to go away and that’s where ‘Losing My Edge’ comes from. It is about being horrified by my own silliness. And then it became a wider thing about people who grip onto other people’s creations like they are their own. There is a lot of pathos in that character though because it’s born out of inadequacy and love."

The "it's a joke" or "the artist was having a laugh" tactic has been used rampantly by music and film apologists for a long time now.

"Isolation" is apparently one of Roger Waters's favorite songs of all time. It's not hard to see how the minimal slow burning drumbeat of that song and other POB tracks like "Mother" and "God" likely influenced the Floyd, and that's not even mentioning the pissed off head up ass lyrical sentiments.
Good song, btw. Brings me back to when "Never As Tired As When I'm Waking Up" proved that he could write a sick classic rock throwback jam.

So apparently this will be the last LCD Soundsystem album.
I don't know, the way he's talking about it seems similar to Mike Skinner's thing with The Streets. It'll be the last "LCD Soundsystem" album, but I'm pretty sure James Murphy will still make music or at least produce other artists.
QUOTE
"This record's horrifying work title is 'Internet Sensation!'", Murphy explained. "I was thinking, 'What would a guy who's been out of the music scene for a long time, and has kids [do to promote himself]?'. 'We gotta be internet sensations, that's what everyone is now!'"
I'm really hoping that Murphy ends up titling this thing Internet Sensation!, mostly for the various reactions this board will have to it.
