It seems like all my old friends who I don't really like/hang with too much anymore embraced in this band in the past year and a half or so.
I have to go to a wedding in 3 weeks that will feature an all-LCD Soundsystem reception.
Fuck.

Dare anyone question the talent void?
The thing is, I like this guy. But man does this band suck.
I still say this is something out of a Will Ferrell skit from SNL.

Agreed. And considering Murphy's whole outlook on his band and dance music was to have a good time, I'm glad he, his band, and his fans were able to achieve one last good time. Bands break up far too often due to members who just hate eachother too much to get together again for one last go.
The Last Waltz comparisons might not be the best. I can't think of a comparison better than GBV (a weak comparison though) considering their last shows were all 3+hours, 50+ songs, and they had cities make official Guided By Voices day.

nah.
if you care about music, you want bands you like to succeed and bands you don't like to fail.
the reason is simple: if bands i like succeed, they are able to keep making music and new bands will take inspiration from them. it makes the musical world a much more pleasant place and requires much less effort from me to seek out the bands i want to hear.

and this kind of smugly self-satisfied, self-congratulatory "event" only serves to validate my antipathy.
The "event" is called a concert, most bands these days perform them. Kind of this thing they do.
except it wasn't. it was billed as "our last concert EVER, so come out and see us one final time before we go poof." And they videotaped it and streamed it online and invited Arcade Fire along for the ride. It was Murphy's overblown, ridiculously self-important tribute to himself.
Leaves a bad taste.
I never liked the White Stripes, but at least they broke up with grace and class and didn't pompously make a spectacle of themselves.
even if i thought LCD sucked, this is still one of the dumbest opinions i've seen expressed on this board.

you're right. lcd soundsystem is the only band in the history of the world to announce that they will play one final show, invite some friends to perform for them, and give fans unable to attend a chance to see it. classless.

i definitely didn't mean you, fletch. i don't have a horse in this particular race, but the fact that some armond whites are trying to argue that sold out shows at msg somehow equals failure, that the same three or four posters are trying to shit, over and over again, on the enjoyment some fans might garner from particular band is just loathsome and sad.

Yeah, I know and I agree. I just keep my eyes open for potential Joes Apartment references. Check out the Bedphones thread... I remembered you sort of liking the early plug one electronic/acoustic stuff I used to rep, but the new stuff is much better imo. Think it'd be up your alley. Free uploads n stuff.

I caught the last part of the show, and enjoyed it immensely. Sound was great, I didn't even have to put up with drunken assholes falling into me and grabbing my gf's ass, and good beer was in arm's reach without spending a fortune on it. In some instances, this could be the ideal concert experience.
Gotta say, I don't think I've ever been compelled to post on a thread about a band I didn't care about, or care for. What's the point, I wonder?

Murphy's entire career has been one long smirk and stands as proof that flattery will get you everywhere as long as your target demo is insecure enough to seek validation through their record collections.
You can have great taste and sources of inspiration and still suck at putting them to any sort of productive use. Murphy is a textbook case.

Great band who put on a fantastic live show.
Probably the best indie frontman of the '00's. Smart, funny, he was like everybody's favorite party host.
And they had broad appeal, I could play their songs at any party and people of all shape and sizes would perk up and say "Who is this? This is good." If the music industry hadn't changed, they would be a mainstream act.
I'll miss them.

Here's a question for you Montana, why do you give a shit? It's pretty obvious you don't like any music that produced after 1967 so why do you even bother posting in these threads. If you think LCD Soundsysterm, or Radiohead or any number of current bands are shit then fine but must you clog up every damn thread with your tired old "this band has no talent. how long before they are forgotten" bullshit.

I admire when a band has a clear conceptual sense of when to end, and even better coordinate a deliberate final show that fans and friends can plan to attend instead of just finishing at some random venue. The Replacements final show was at an outdoor Taste of Chicago event and sounds like they blew it. Husker Du just kind of unraveled after a Columbia, Missouri show. Does anyone even know where the final Talking Heads performance was?

For the most part, it was the Stop Making Sense tour. They did three albums after that, so I'm guessing they MUST have done a TV appearance or two, but otherwise, the last tour was actually the same one where Demme filmed Stop Making Sense.
Bear in mind, the entire band DID reunite for the Rock n Roll HOF...that's something the Band, the 'Mats and Hüsker Dü have never done and can never do (well, the Hüskers can, but Norton didn't join Hart and Mould at the Karl Mueller benefit).

True story; I just did a workout to 45:33. It was pretty good, I could feel my pecs rippling by the end. Pretty much the only worthwhile thing this band has ever done. Although I quite like 'New York I Love You' until the 'mayor' line and then I cringe and press skip quickly.
