I hope the Twins just blister through the next two months so Kenny Williams can't even consider deadline desperation moves

Frankie T doing color? WTF?
Beckham may have a HOF career ahead of him as a hitter, but his baserunning needs work.

Twins are 9-9 right now since May 10. They do have Doug Fister tomorrow after a long flight tonight, so I expect them to fall just short of .500. But I thought they were going to play low 400 ball, so I cannot complain at all.

I know its cynical, but I'm kind of relieved. They've been so bad that even Kenny "All-In" Williams may have to abandon any ill-advised deadline moves and plan for next year (or, frankly, the year after that).
Unfortunately there's less than a week to trade AJ and I'm worried it's not going to happen.

Yeah. He could still OK a trade, although I don't think he will do so unless he is pretty certain he'll get a lot of playing time.
To play devil's advocate, it's possible that they simply weren't getting any good offers for him. And I acknowledge that there is some value in avoiding trades that will be seen as "white flag" moves so early in the season, especially with a popular veteran from the '05 team.

I'm pretty relieved that despite circumstantially horrible luck of the draw over the last 10 games
Twins: Braves/Rockies/Phillies - Each +.500 teams (Also facing Ubaldo Jimenez and Doc in the last 4 games) Tigers: Pirates/Nationals/D'Backs - Bad/Bad/Worst White Sox: Cubs/Pittsburgh/Nationals - Poop/Crap/Dookie
That the Twins held on to their lead for now.
Also, very excited that the Sox might no longer be sellers at the deadline.
Raj (Noble Con)
Jun 21 2010, 11:24 AM
I don't mind too much if the Sox aren't sellers as they didn't have much that was sell-able anyway. Just as long as they don't become buyers (or buyers of anything significant).
Chris Sale signed for slot money. Holy crap. This is already a pretty great draft year for the Sox.

Some great baseball lately. They're still the third-best team in the ALC, but stealing the division isn't out of the question with this pitching staff. Just as long as they don't do something crazy/stupid like trade for Prince Fielder, it could be a moderately enjoyable rest of the season.

1. Sam Fuld - CF 2. Mike Fotentot - 3B 3. Marylon Bryd - LF 4. Tyler Colvin - RF 5. Starlin Castro - SS 6. Geovany Soto - C 7. bring up some minor leaguer - 1B 8. bring up some other minor leaguer - 2B 9. pitcher

and now we are back to the same old white sox from this season...cant score runs against bad teams
The tricky thing is that Dunn will probably be a Type A free agent, which means that the Nationals would want a lot for him since they would be giving up those picks as well.
I think the price will be too high and he'll just stay in Washington. Unless the Angels make an offer the Nats can't refuse, but I think teams will go for cheaper guys like Luke Scott.

or dye for that matter...at least he couldve given you some flexibility in the field...
by going out and getting dunn kenny and ozzie have then said - small ball doesnt work (at least with these players)
which would then be unfortunate cause dunn and thome are esentially the same player
prince would be a nice move since hes already said he wont play in MIL next year and theyd like to get a nice return for him, but what do the sox really have to give up? floyd?
Raj (Noble Con)
Jun 30 2010, 03:17 PM
Fielder and Dunn are both going to cost too much because they're both (probably) Type A free agents. To get one of them the Sox would have to give up at least Hudson or Flowers, and probably some smaller pieces too.
I would rather see something like Nevin Griffith or Carlos Torres for a guy with a lower pricetag like Luke Scott. Or best of all, save the prospects entirely and trade a bullpen arm to a contender for a new hitter.

Detached Latissimus Dorsi muscle for Peavy, likely done for the year...
Daniel Hudson is starting on Sunday...Stat line on Hudson this year at Charlotte for those not in the know:
We'll have to see how he does on the Major League level on a more regular basis (pitched a little last year), but with those kind of numbers, here's hoping it translates well.
Raj (Noble Con)
Jul 7 2010, 04:13 PM
Hudson will probably be solid. But they are now dangerously thin with just Carlos Torres and not much else available if (when) Garcia's junkball stops junking.
So they're now short two-three offensive positions AND a starter. They're too good to sell right now, but if Peavy is really out for the year, they can't buy either - they're too much of a long shot with this many problems.

yeah for a small guy hes got a violent arm motion...i was hoping hed develop some pitches with movement like maddux eventually did once he lost his speed....looks like he'll have no choice now

Jul 8 2010, 10:35 AM
Well, he hasn't lost any velocity yet. He's been averaging 91.5 this year, which is right at his career average. I think it's premature to start talking about mechanics changes. They should look for a conditioning solution and only change his approach as a last resort, because his aggressiveness is pretty key to why he's a good pitcher.

do you really expect him to come back with speed after this? the doctors dont even know how to treat this injury yet?
i dont
i never said there would have to be mechanics changes, he would just have to develop some pitches that create movement, and probably a better sense of location - just basically adapt to whatever his injury limits him to - which if it involves mechanics changes so be it

I don't know enough about this type of injury to say how fully he could recover from it. Can't think of any pitchers off the top of my head who had the same thing.
QUOTE

Fair enough. You went from talking about his violent arm action to developing new pitches, so I thought you meant his mechanics.
QUOTE

I don't understand why this is necessary - he's mixing five pitches with pretty good speed and varying breaks, and everything except his changeup has been in the black this year.
