I am trying to find the exact date the 1 May 1997 general election was called in the UK. wiki says "Major managed to survive to the end of the Parliament, but called an election in March 1997 as the five-year limit for its timing approached." can anyone get me the exact date (including a link to the article/website the info came from)?
