I know its been talked about before and if you can redirect me to a topic on home music systems that would be great but I am looking for a semi low priced set of speakers for my IMAC. I like style and I like good sound.

these seem to be the bang bang but if anyone else knows of any stylish, under 200 dollar, good speakers (mainly for ambient/rock/pop/electronica) the deep bass isnt important for hip hop or anything. anyway, any help or suggestions would be great.

i have a pair of harman kardons that are about 3 years old - they still sound great. definitely a good investment. the $169 will be worth it in the long run.

JBL Creature II speakers. They go for about $100 on Amazon.

Klipsch ProMedia Ultra 2.0 PC Speaker System. Also can be had on Amazon for around $100.

Both of these systems are pretty good. I've owned them both. The JBL will deliver a deeper bass since it has the subwoofer, but they're not as portable. The Klipsch are perfectly fine too. Both of these systems make for good ipod speakers too.

Do those JBLs do the job? I have headphones for my Pod and am not worried about portability. I think Im going towards the sound sticks. thanks.

You can shake the walls if you want to with the JBLs.

eh, those arent that great. I mean, they are nice and all. Decent I suppose. Actually, now that I think about it, they would probably be a good choice. I think those were the speakers I had in my freshman dorm room. They were able to be heard in the stairwell of the 4th floor (i lived on the 5th).

My pop works for apple so we get all the fun gadgets. We currently have this in the family room: IPB Image
I only got to play with it for the day I was home a few weeks ago, but it seemed perdy sweet.

Broke my speakers one time and got the JBL Duet 2.0 Speakers as temps. Piece of shit. Monster I speaker portable sucks balls but is good if you are stuck in a cabin in a rainforest and need to save space.

JBL On Stage II is good if you spend a lot of time listening to music in the shower, or like to keep your ipod charged at all times, or if you move from room to room and you dont want it super loud but still wanna hear it. Not that powerful, but can be useful.

Pretty sure we used to have the Harmam Kardon SOundsticks II in the basement. I think they worked out just fine.

I guess go with the JBL creature speakers. I dont recall them shaking the walls (although my dorm room was a concrete cell...) but they could be heard a floor down. For what thats worth.

my speakers cost a lot of money.

I usually use www.newegg.com for any computer needs.

I was looking at this but it doesnt have Airport wireless and that was the only way I was paying 350 or so for it. Im looking between 100-300 and the JBLs seem pretty decent but they sure are ugly and I'm going more for good sound than loud sound. is that apple thing nice? it looks pretty bulky

If you are askin about the big ole white box thing being bulky....I donno, not really. We have a lot of space in my house so it looks all hip and nice in its little place. Its on the Apple Wall in the family room where we have a collection of things like mini ipods(all colors) and old ipods and fun stuff like that. So it fits in.
(keep in mind we only have those things because my dad works for the company. We arent assholes who buy stuff to show it off)

The JBLs are ugly, and that giant subwoofer will get int he way and be a pain in the ass if you dont have a lot of space. (like a college dormroom). But on the creature speakers, you can turn them up just by touching the little volume control (no need to add pressure) and I used to like to kinda flick and tap them as if i were conducting an orchestra to the beat of the music. So they were fun.

But thats just a weird me thing.....

i have a nice little bose 2.1 system i bought for about $200 two years ago. granted, i know nothing about sound and speakers, but i think they sound pretty nice and they're small and pretty enough for me.

edit: they seem to have upped their price a bit since i bought them, but here they are. and i run them off my ibook, if that matters.

edit again. i know people who have those apple sound sticks and my bose ones definitely sound better than those, but i suppose that's what you get for an extra $80.

if those are the ones you have in your apartment, then yea, I thought they were quite nice.

well, I went out to the apple store, hooked up my Ipod and figured I am most definatly going for the sound sticks. they pick up the highs and lows and sound very very clean and smooth. the bose sounded nice too, but didnt sound as full and for 80 more I wasnt for it.

by the way, if anyone is pretty well off money wise, I would recommend that Ipod HiFi for your Ipod. that thing sounds really really good. sat next to a 300 bose and a klipcsh (sp) and it blew them out of the water, really nice sound and no distortion even when it's loud enough to kill a man
