QUOTE
The Obama administration is conspiring to transform America. They want to remake our America—of free enterprise, faith, and personal freedom—into their America—of endless bureaucracy, secularism, and state control—despite overwhelming opposition from the American people. How is this possible? How has the Obama team succeeded in adopting widely despised policies like the massive stimulus bill and the healthcare takeover? How could such a radical president and his congressional leaders get elected and then take a center-right country in a socialist direction bitterly opposed by most Americans? Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich has the answer: the Left have built a secular-socialist machine out of corruption, lust for power, and sheer ruthlessness, and are using it to steamroll over the will of the people. In this book, Gingrich reveals:

* How the secular-socialist machine gained power through deception and outright lies
* How the machine shuts the American people out of the legislative process
* Why some of our most powerful leaders seek to banish religion from public life
* How the machine uses taxpayer money to pay off its supporters and punish its opponents
* How we can replace, not reform, Obama’s socialist programs

Exposing the mortal threat now facing America, To Save America offers concrete strategies for dismantling the machine and replacing it with policies and institutions that work. But we must act fast, Gingrich warns, or our children will inherit a secular, socialist America transformed beyond recognition.

He doesn't need to be President. He already holds a shit load of power in the GOP without media speculation. He's got a pretty sweet gig.

Huckabee & Romney are leading him in early Iowa Caucus straw polls, with Palin coming in a weak 4th, and according to a Public Policy Polling poll all four of them are in a statistical tie for nationwide support.

Would love it if that jack-ass ran for 2012.

This guy's got the stink of disgrace on him (1998). Republicans have cast him out; they take elections seriously and don't like losers. They'll choose Romney.
Duff.
Won't be president but scary he's even in the picture. He's the guy who will say stupid bullshit that the actual candidate won't be able to say.
pigfuck
would love for the republican party to offer up a string of gingrich & palins as their prime candidates forever

actually, not really at all. But I'm pretty sure my general point is understood here.

Don't forget that Reagan ran unsuccessfully for President in '68 & '76 before winning in '80, and he's still St. Ronnie to NeoCons who would never put their faith in a Liberal like him:

  • Former Union President during the 'late '40s & '50s (although he later took a hard line against Labor Unions during the Air Traffic Controller strike)
  • Originally a New Deal Democrat, switching to the Republican party in '62
  • Legalized Abortion in California
  • Instituted the "Welfare State" by eliminating all state support of anyone who found work, so you'd have to live two weeks to a Month without any money before receiving a paycheck if you left Welfare, meaning you'd starve if you left it; the California Welfare rolls swelled by 500% during his Governorship
  • Gave a speech at the 1976 GOP convention in opposition to the possibility of a nuclear exchange with the USSR; later as President he spoke out against nuclear war, and reduced the number of nuclear warheads in the US stockpile by 1/3
  • Raised Taxes 6 times in 8 years as President
  • Granted Amnesty to 3 Million Illegal Immigrants
  • Nominated centrist jurist Sandra Day O"Connor to the Supreme Court
  • Advocated Gun Control for Handguns & Assault Weapons
  • His budget spending Quadrupled the National Debt
  • Was knighted by the Queen of England, meaning that if the Thirteenthers had their way he'd be stripped of his citizenship

The country has shifted rightward so badly, that yes, Ronnie today would be laughed out of consideration for the Republican nomination. But these are different days; Newt didn't just lose, he was embarrassed in 98, and modern-day Republicans can't brook that. Raw tribalism won't allow it.

Nixon had nearly 4 times the nominating votes than Reagan on the first ballot; when combined with Rocky's votes they had 962 votes to Reagan's 182. I'd say that's a blowout; meanwhile Newt won his district in '98 but stepped down because the Senate Republicans were blaming him for their problems, among other reasons.

One of the other reasons Newt stepped down is one of the reasons he won't run for president as a real candidate: he was leaving his wife for the 32 year old staffer he'd been having an affair with. Add that to abandoning his first family while his wife was undergoing Cancer treatments, leaving them living on money collected for them by their Church, many, many more accusations of infidelity, the fact he's been heavily in debt since the '70s (he needs the money he'll raise as a Presidential Candidate to pay off some of his debts), and because he's converted to Catholicism.
Ted Falconi
It's been pointed out before and elsewhere, that Newt always tends to be 'thinking about running for President' coincident with a new book to sell.

Once again, I have a better chance at being elected president than Newt. He has absolutely positively zero chance. Zero.
