Well, everybody's doing it over on Facebook. I thought it might be interesting to see what crops up here here.
The rules: Don't take too long to think about it. Pick fifteen albums you've heard that will always stick with you. List the first fifteen you can recall in no more than fifteen minutes.
Feel free to add some notes as to why you made each selection...
My fifteen:
Arcade Fire | Funeral
The Beatles | The White Album
Crowded House | Together Alone
Bob Dylan | Blood on the Tracks
The Go-Betweens | 16 Lover's Lane
The Groundhogs | Thank Christ for the Bomb

Neutral Milk Hotel | In the Aeroplane Over the Sea
Nirvana | Unplugged in New York
Pixies | Doolittle
Public Enemy | It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back

Finally a thread in which we can list some albums!

I tried to keep to the theme; these aren't my picks for fifteen best albums of all time, just the ones that have stuck with me, and I listened to again and again at certain points in my life. Might as well add some thoughts as to why, beats doing Uni work...
Sasha - Global Underground 013: An album that has been with me through the last seven years, ever since I first heard it in 2003 and was instantly captivated by dance music as a 14 year old who only listened to R'n'B chart stuff. 'A tantilizing phuture-phunk frenzy weaving sunny dreams with an exclusive sci-fi symphony'...so says the extensive sleeve notes, and they got it spot on. Everything is right about this release; the cover shot, the presentation and booklet (especially in the limited long-box edition which I finally got hold of last year), and the music itself is faultless, hypnotic deep house on the first disc before breaking down into dirty breakbeat and trance on disc two. Can't say enough about how much I love this album, I've played it working night shifts at a garage, on a balcony in Ibiza, on beaches, in airports, at home, and it never loses its magic. So many memories. If my house was burning down my copy of this would be one of the first things I'd grab.
The Streets - A Grand Don't Come For Free: This came out at the right time for me, and summed up life at that time perfectly, from drug experimentation in 'Blinded By The Lights' to having dodgy mates who you couldn't quite trust ('What Is He Thinking') to that moment when you're walking down the street in your tight jeans and it all comes together and you're deliriously happy for a while ('Empty Cans'), as well as the usual tales of women and holidays. Some people say this album doesn't hold up today, which is probably right, but if you were a male between 15 and 25 and loved it when it first came out, chances are it'll be special forever.
Joni Mitchell - Hejira: Think Joni was the first musical artist who captivated my so much I had to buy every single record as quickly as possible, and they're all awesome. 'Blue' was my entry, but this was when it really clicked, an album about travelling and learning etc...I heard it for the first time when I'd just got back from travelling in Asia and Australia so it really resonated at the time. Plus, it's just amazing musically and lyrically.
The Libertines - Up the Bracket: I wasn't there in 2002 when it came out, few were, but by late 2003 this band had a dance music diehard following their every move, and playing this album with friends again and again. I even started wearing skinny jeans, vests and stripy tops. Plus, every Indie club I've ever been to seems to play 'Time For Heroes', so I associate the album with some great nights.
Sasha + John Digweed - Northern Exposure I: Probably the most beautiful album of music I've ever heard, my biggest memory of this is listening in bed half asleep and it sounding like the most amazing thing ever. Music always sounds best in that limbo between sleep and awake, but I was lay in bed astonished by the whole thing.
Gatecrasher - Red: If GU13 was when dance music clicked for me, this was my gateway into it (give or take a few dodgy Ministry annuals). Found it in a shop, saw two songs I knew and liked and took a chance on it second hand...haven't regretted it since, pure trance at its peak and at its best. OK, the songs are short and it's not taking you on a meaningful journey, but for getting you up for a night out it's still unbeatable. I assosciate it with sipping on vodka sling choosing what to wear and doing my hair.
Jay-Z - Reasonable Doubt: Driving on a sunny day with my mates in the back spinning 'Can't Knock the Hustle' or 'Ain't No Nigga'. Still my favourite Jay album, Can I Live might be my favourite rap song of all time.
Mobb Deep - The Infamous: Got me into harder rap, usually it had been all Pac, Dre or party vibes, this made me want to murder someone rather than have a good time. Perfect for those times when you're feeling pretty pissed off, another classic from my short stint at late night garages, I was ready to stab the customers while this was spinning.
Billie Holiday - Lady In Satin: A fucking heartbreaking album, I've never had my heart broken but I know that if it ever happens this album will be here. I've played this umpteen times, you feel like you're reaching into the darkest depths of Billie's soul.
The Smiths - The Queen Is Dead: My MP3 player gave out on me while traveling, so the only music I had access to was a crap CD player we had found in the block we were staying at. To that end, I had to buy a couple of albums despite my backpacker financial constraints, and this was one of the ones I chose. Played it over and over; I had little choice in the circumstances, but luckily I loved it so much. It's not my favourite Smiths album anymore, but it holds the most memories. The other disc I bought was Takk by Sigur Ros, if anyone wants to know.
Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon: Reminds me of my first year of Uni when I was considering dropping out and played this record multiple times in a row. Great escapism. Probably a perfect album.
Nick Drake - Bryter Layter: Of all the dead music stars, I think I resonate with Nick Drake the most. This is my favourite album he did, you can't argue with stuff like 'Hazey Jane I' or 'Northern Sky' when you are in that moody artistic vibe.
Steve Lawler - Nu Breed 3: Harder dance music, pretty minimal and very tribal, sent me on a spate of buying minimal and tribal house for about a year, though nothing lived up to this.
Dr. Dre - The Chronic: Bought this as an 11 year old; I saw it in Virgin Megastores cheap, and after hearing Dre's name on The Marshall Mathers LP I decided I wanted it despite not knowing anything about the artist or the content. I thought 'Nigga Witta Gun' was the coolest song ever back then, and played it for friends incessantly, most of them weren't allowed this kind of album at that age. Still holds up as a 21 year old today.
Pet Shop Boys - Behaviour: I fell in love with Pet Shop Boys at a really young age hearing 'Se A Vida E' when it came out in 1996. I wasn't really at the age to pursue things back then, but I came back a few years later, and after dipping into a few albums, Behaviour was the one that really summed up who I was at that particular time. 'Jealousy' and 'This Must Be The Place I Waited Years To Leave' resonated especially.

Jesus dude, don't be such a killjoy. Anyway, it has a slightly different premise than people just listing their best albums or favourite albums.
Still, it would be interesting if people posted reasons since there's got to be a story why an album sticks with a person for such a long time.

The Who - Quadrophenia - sometimes this one just has to blare thru the house. timeless, perfect, angst driven rock music. this will stick with me forever
Steve Earle - El Corazon - this is the one that pushed me from fan to superfan of mr. earle, and is the greatest piece of the inspiration for my nom de plume, of course, but more importantly, it's just one of the greatest collections of songs put together onto one brand new cd ever by anybody.
Patty Griffin - 1,000 Kisses - what a perfect beautiful album. might not be my favorite patty record, but truly her first masterpiece and there's not a mediocre song on it
Tim O'Brien - Odd Man In - this has been on heavy rotation for nearly 20 years. Love Tim and these songs are a big reason why
Guy Clark - Old Friends - heard the title track prior to a Nanci Griffith concert at Park West. Went out and got the cd and never looked back. another cd that's been on heavy rotation forever at my house
Kinks - Arthur - a 14 year old elcorazon interested in music decides to pick up a kinks album purely based on the songs he's heard on the radio thruout his life. this is the one he finds. the rest is history.
Velvet Underground - Loaded - still the vu record I listen to the most even if it's not my "favorite"
Van Morrison - Moondance - talk about your perfect records. you can have whatever you want from VM; you can criticize this one as commercial whatever, I dunno, to my ears this is pure classic music from start to finish
Chuck Berry - The Great 28 - the beginnings of it all, another cd that's been in heavy rotation for a LONG time in my house, never gets old or dated, sometimes I'm still surprised at how good it sounds
Joni Mitchell - Blue - what a beautiful album, unlike others, I like my Joni moody and melodic rather than hook driven. Blue's just pure magic
Los Lobos - Kiko - A damn good band goes out and makes a perfect album.
Avett Brothers - Emotionalism - I cannot live without this album
Rosanne Cash - Interiors - another one that's been at the top of my rotation for 20ish years
Mary Gauthier - Mercy Now - shocking at how great the writing is on this one. this'n makes me cry
Tom Waits - Rain Dogs - the hooks, the sounds, the voice, the band - tom put it all together perfectly here. If I ever want to listen to Waits, this is almost always where I look.

Seems a bizarre album to pick if you like Joni to be moody; Hejira, The Hissing of Summer Lawns and Both Sides Now are all better for that. I see Blue as more wide eyed and emotional than moody.

15 Albums
1. Loveless (My Bloody Valentine) - Challenged everything I thought about what music could be. Just listening to this on headphones, and you don't get a properly sequenced album from start to finish with hits. You get a dazzling sensory experience from beginning to end.
2. Aladdin Sane (David Bowie) - Bowie at his most outrageous. Fun, ridiculous, and so, so dramatic.
3. On Fire (Galaxie 500) - The sound of infinity.
4. Michigan (Sufjan Stevens) - Still his most intimate and brillant accomplishment. If his EP is reflective of his album, then his new will be be impressive
5. In Rainbows (Radiohead) - Damn, it just might be there best.
6. Remain in the Light (Talking Heads) - Album takes you places from beginning to end. From high energy to deadening static. High concept, and well pulled off.
7. The Preservation Green Society (The Kinks) - Poppy goodness from end to end
8. Born to Run (Bruce Springsteen) - Holds up so well, and so many indie bands are taking cues from this album.
9. Friend and Foe (Menomena) - One of the most creative albums i've come across. American Radiohead?
10. Kind of Blue (Miles Davis) - I dig it
11. Vauxhall and I (Morrissey) - One of the few releases that could match some of his work with the Smiths
12. Doolittle (Pixies) - Can these guys just make another album? Please.
13. Exile on Main Street (Rolling Stones) - Solid, accessible, the album they were born to make.
14. One Night Stand! Sam Cooke Live (Sam Cooke) - Still gravely underrated
15. Fear of a Black Planet (Public Enemy) - Because no hip-hop group, except maybe Outkast, has done so much for the hip-hop genre.
