So the girlfriend and I are doing our laundry at the laundromat on Milwaukee and decide to walk over to Flash Taco for some quick lunch. On the way back, she tells me she wants to check out the new clothing store that opened down the street, Scoop. We go in and this place is Wicker Park yupsterism in its purest form - a parking lot full of Beamers and Benzes, $1400 sundresses and $365 pairs of jeans, complete with $10 salads in the "cafe" at store front. So I'm already hating the place, but humoring the gf while she window shops and I start wandering around the store. I walk over to a rack of baby/little kids clothes and out of morbid curiousity I pick up a pair of 7 jeans made for a four year-old to check out the price ($110). But that's not what made me choke back bile in disgust, no it was the item just to the left of the jeans I had picked up. Now I had already noticed the $82 "vintage rock band" tees on display in another part of the store comeplete with Doors, Zep, Lennon, tees, so I wasn't surprised to see mini-replicas of the same for babies. But I was shocked, nay appalled, to see the fucking Black Flag baby t-shirt on sale for $38. Now this wasn't a babydoll tee for those tin waisted hipster chicks, this was an honest-to-god t-shirt made for a baby. Black fucking Flag. Thirty-eight dollars. Jesus effin' Christ. No wonder ol' Hank is constantly pissed.

This is one of the newest trends. My fiance has three nieces (age 2 months to 3 years old); and one of the really popular stores now for kids is called "Psycho Baby". It sells tons of rock t-shirts for little kids.

I mean, I don't yet have a kid and I'm sure I'll want to impart some good taste and style on the kid, but spending $40 on a t-shirt for a kid that's gonna grow out of it in a month seems insane to me.
But what bothers me the most are the parents who are buying these for their kids to seem hip, when they probably have never heard a Black Flag song in their lives.

Well here's two thoughts; a. The parents who seem to think they're imparting some kinda 'style' onto their infants is kinda silly and b. the ridiculous costs some people are willing to pay for kids clothes is nuts.
Yesterday I saw a one year old wearing an Iron Maiden shirt. I've got to say I doubt very much that this little guy ever heard the music much less paid attention to the thing he's probably spit his food on. It pains me to think his parents thought there was value in paying close to $50 for a shirt he'll outgrow in about a month and a half.
While we'd never find the value on spending an enormous amount on baby outfits. We did receive a onesie that retails for $150.00!! I can't comprehend how they get away with this but they do.

Wow. For a board full of people that love to jump up and down pointing an accusatory finger while shouting "sellout!" every time a band's song gets played on Gilmore Girls, people seem to be surprisingly cool with this idea.

Wasn't this fad mentioned in that New Yorker article someone posted a week or so ago?
