I've been a fan of Chicago rock journeyman Jason Narducy for quite a while now and last year when he mentioned that was playing bass for a new outfit called Telekinesis! I had to check it out.

Saw them open for Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin last fall at Lincoln Hall and they fucking blew them off the stage.

Main man Michael Benjamin Lerner is a singing drummer which is very hard to pull off, he does it live in excellent fashion.

He just came out with his new record called 12 Desparate Straight Lines on Merge. Stream it here.

I like it quite a bit, really dig the dirty bass sound. Record shows some nice growth from the 2009 debut.

Going to see them this Friday night at a sold out Schubas show. Can't wait.

Anyways, figured that a few around here would dig these dudes.

i still prefer the first one, but both are quite good.
seeing them tonight w/ Love Language and Red Pens.

first time i saw them i wasn't so sure about the drummer as lead singer thing... as yeah, that's def hard to pull off.

Yeah, I liked the first album a lot too, but I think this one is even better. Been spinning it for about a month now and really enjoy.

And I had no idea the drummer was the singer, pretty cool.

Telekinesis! is pretty much a one man band, in the studio at least. Michael Benjamin Lerner is his name. In the live setting he sings behind the drum kit, and he's an excellent drummer and singer.

See Telekinesis! live if you have the opportunity. You will not be sorry.

Can't get enough of the sound of the bass on this record.

Huh, I didn't know that Cody Votolato (Blood Bros, Jaguar Love) is the touring guitar player for this band.

And this record keeps growing on me. Good stuff.

Great read, thanks for posting.

I saw The Sleeptalkers / The Love Languages / Telekinesis at Schubas on Friday night.

The Sleeptalkers were underwhelming. Good musicians but the songs kinda sucked. Featured one of the dudes from the now defunct Redwalls. What ever happened to them, they were supposed to be huge.

The Love Languages were great. I loved their brand of indie pop. Frontman was wearing a Damn Yankees shirt which rocked.

Telekinesis ruled the earth. I'm acquaintances with the bass player Jason - super nice guy. Lerner seems like a really nice guy too. I hope they acheive big success.

Been spinnig 12 Desparate Straight Lines for the first time in a couple of months. What a fucking incredible album. Easily AOTY for me so far.

Go see these dudes live, you will not be sorry.

They are coming back to Schubas on June 8th for those Chicago peeps. If you are toying with the idea of getting a ticket get it now as this WILL set out, trust me.

Glad I'm not alone. Why no one else is going apeshit over it is beyond me. I think it's a case of simply not having heard it.
