so i don't think there's been any talk of typhoon on this board yet.
bunch of young kids from portland, something like 10+ people in the band. super orchestrated and composed, musically proficient. rousing singalongs, cool stuff going on rhythmically (kinda anthemic polyrhythms, i'd describe it), communal vibe stuff.
they record on this DIY label tender loving empire and are all basically 20 and live together.
their first record is about the main singer getting some bug bite and i guess nearly dying from it.
they played letterman when they toured this year. also did a daytrotter session which is great. jim and greg loved em at SXSW this year (mostly greg i think).
sound kinda similar to the decemberists, broken social scene, port o'brien, and a bit like mumford and sons (mostly vocally). not the best or most innovative thing in the world, but there's something about them i love and they've gotten a lot of play from me this year. also, they very well might blow up.
their bandcamps are worth it, i recommend their debut "hunger and thirst" but the ep they put out this year is good too.
thoughts?
