Being a university student, i dont have as much time to game as i would like, but i still find the whole videogame world quite interesting. Plus, some games keep drawing me back into the fray. That being said, the whole issue of next-generation systems has me intrigued. Are there any Xbox 360 owners that have reactions to the system? Personally, i have found the launch lineup lackluster at best (with the exception of a few big name titles), so i have held off from buying one. The PS3 has me excited, but the forecasted pricetag leaves me skeptical (last i heard, it will most likely sell for $100 more than the 360, which is in itself quite pricey). The wild card, Nintendo's Revolution, definitely sounds interesting, but im worried about 3rd party support for it. Not only is the thing just so different from other consoles, with its motion-sensor wand thingamajig, but Nintendo has a history of poor third party support backing their systems. Regardless, i think im going to hold out for this one, simply because the potential is truly exciting.
Thats my opinion. Now it is your turn. So which system will it be?

Well, I have yet to venture into a non-Nintendo console. That said, my Gamecube is the first console I bought since the NES. At any rate, I sort of consider myself a Nintendo-specific geek--I'm not a hardcore gamer by any stretch, and I like the flagship titles (Zelda, Metroid, etc.). Still and all, I recently bought a 42" HD plasma TV, and would REALLY like to see some HD games on the thing. I'll probably get the Revolution, but I may wait and see about the PS3 when it comes out for that reason. Let's get some 16x9 games on my kick-ass screen, people!

The Revolution will kill. You know how everyone had an NES, even if they didn't seem the type to have a videogame system? That's how the Rev's gonna be.

I'm not much of a fanboy, so I won't say any of the new consoles are better than the other.
In fact, I'm so far behind that I'm playing 'Doom'

Well, we've had the 360 since December, and it is a pretty great box. I'm excited for the next installment of the Splinter Cell series. XBox Live is great, there's plenty of downloadable arcarde games, demos, etc... All in all, one hell of a system, and better than sitting around waiting for the PS3.
I am curious about the Revolution, though. For me, PSP vs XBox isn't much of a debate. They both do the same thing, they're both pretty good. You can modify the XBox a little bit more, but that's about it. (For me).
Nintendo, on the other hand, really does try fun and innovative things with their consoles, and the Revolution is no exception. I sort of think of Nintendo these days as the Macintosh of game consoles.

I'm an XBOX owner. Didn't purchase a 360 yet, but don't worry. The day Halo 3 drops is the day I pony up. I enjoy the XBOX, and I've used the 360 a fair amount. It seems like a nice console. XBOX Live is excellent, and the Arcade is supposed to be great as well.
That being said, I voted for Revolution. I was 8 or 9 when NES launched. The aboslute perfect age. Call me a sucker for nostalgia, I guess. But that's only a part of it. The best Nintendo titles post-NES over the years still rank as some of my best gaming experiences of all time. Super Nintendo's Zelda, Super Metroid, Mario Kart(s), Mario 64 and both N64 Zeldas.
I think the Revolution is going to be innovative as hell, while 360 and PS3 just keep on going with the same old, same old, but with just prettier pictures. That's nice and all, but Revolution is exciting.

I haven't played a console video game in a few years, so I am definitely not an expert, but it just seems like the PS/Xbox battle has diminishing returns with each new console. The graphics can only get so good; and frankly I'm still amazed when I go to bestbuy and I see some games on the ps2 or old xbox (let alone the xbox 360).
For those reasons, I'm really hopeful that the Nintendo Revolution will take off, but given Nintendo's diminishing reputation...I'm fearful that it'll be another in a long line of Robbie the Robots.

I dont play videogames often. I got Halo on my Mac, play halo 2 on a friends Xbox and Fifa 03 on PS2. out of all of them the PS3 looks nuts-o, xbox is pretty fun but ps3 should blow it up and nintendo will make a little kid system again. when havent they?

I got a 360 on launch day, played it for a week then sold it due to the high demand for christmas. Sold it for enough to make my money back AND buy a premuim one for FREE!
Its kicks ass! I mean c'mon you can download demos for free (you don't have to pay for LIVE to get the demos) and they usually have the demo out before the game comes out. the launch games were ok, but now that oblivion and ghost recon is out you can totally see what this thing can do. By this fall the 360 will own everything including revolution and PS3.
the gamecube was marketed for 10 year olds, but maybe it will prove me wrong. And the PS2 was good and all but the xbox always looked a lot better, so thats what I gotta go with the 360.
check out "gears of war" and "mass effect" on any game site and you'll see what I mean about late summer/early fall belonging to the 360.

I picked up Final Fantasy X and that for under 20. Thinking of getting that God Of War game too. I love it when new systems come out because the prices go waaaaaaay down and casual gamers like me can pig out on shit nerds paid 50 dollars for a year ago.
Oh right, and as obvious by the avatar change, I picked up that mega man collection for 18 bucks. Best 18 bucks I've spent in a long time by the way. Everyone go out and pick it up.

I didn't need that sonic collection because Sonic The Hedgehog was my childhood, buying those games again would be excessive and absurd.
Friend of mine has a genesis hooked up in his dorm and sometimes I just lay waste to Sonic 1 or 2 when I'm bored.

I like to think of myself as a Nintendo fanboy at heart. I still cant help but smile whenever i crack out some old Zelda games. Every year or so i rediscover the series and remember why i love it (and Nintendo) so much. As such, i wouldnt really say that Nintendo targets a
younger audience, but just a different one from that of Sony and Microsoft. As far as graphics...who am i kidding, the 360/PS3 graphics look damn pretty. Will the Revolution be able to compete in the graphical dept? Hell no. On the other hand, though, Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory is one helluva pretty looking game, and thats running on my good ole Xbox 1. In other words, the whole graphical leap will not be what draws me into the next gen of systems. Innovation, however, will. Just the thought of being able to use the Revolution's wand controller as a sword in future iterations of Zelda gives me tingles. (no pun intended)

I'm pretty excited about Revolution just from the first game that's been announced so far,
Red Steel. It's a first person game where you use the control as your gun or a sword to kill and slice people. You might even be able to use two controllers at once to have to independently controlled weapons.

Does anyone know what the timeframe for the release of Revolution is? I just read the above link about Red Steel, and as someone who virtually doesn't play any video games anymore, that description has got me very excited.
I'm glad that it appears nintendo wants to pin the release of Revolution to an adult themed game (which essentially appears to be a fps, which integrates the unique-ness of the wand). I did enjoy all the Mario franchises, but if Nintendo wants to compete with ps/xbox; it's gonna have to demonstrate how it can be better on the same playing field.

As for the question Revolution. I haven't gotten a new system since PS2, and I got that over gamecube only due to the fact that at the time I didn't have a dvd player or a regular playstation and I could get those games plus the new ones.
My brother however got a gamecube while I was in college, and was able to try it out, and I liked it quite a bit. I doubt I'll ever by a XBox only due to problems with Microsoft on my computer.

Hey sweet, a games thread.
I've got an Xbox 360... excellent system, indeed. I'll certainly be picking up a PlayStation 3, and I expect it to launch for $500. The Revolution I'm a little iffy about, maybe because the GameCube was my least-used system of the last generation. Bah, I'm sure I'll get it.
Revolution may launch by Christmas, though I wouldn't be surprised if it slips to Spring. Same for PlayStation 3, but they've got more to lose by missing a fall launch.

Well, as long as there are some of us that are willing to contribute to a games-related discussion, i dont see why not. Personally, id love to see a Now Playing thread for videogames. That is part of the reason that i made this thread so open-ended. I wanted a game thread, but i had no idea how many SOMBies were also gamers. I guess i was testing the waters.
