Glad you found the time to post it up. Someone had to. You'll really love this Vamos, if you like microbeats and glitchier stuff.
I don't know about Kosmischer Pitch or the other release/s of his, I haven't heard any others.
Maybe someone else has and can vouch for the quality?

kosmischer pitch is more ambient, less glitchy. it's one of his weaker releases, imo. if you like loop finding jazz records, check out the stuff he's released as farben.

Our Sleepless Forest - Our Sleepless Forest (2008, Resonant Label)
http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fusea...iendID=68779489The three members, from the UK, "met at school" and subsequently put this together. There is little info available on them at this time. They released a track on a comp for the Type label, but this debut is set to come out in the Spring on Resonant.
This is
dense and trippy stuff. Very hard to describe, just a lot of earthy layers of sound (birds, water) blending with waves of guitar and other warm noise. Check the myspace link. I'm very curious to find out how and what they used to record this. Anyway, it's grabbed my attention presently.

A couple new releases that I've been enjoying so far
Peter Broderick - Float (Type, 2008)http://www.myspace.com/peterbroderick
This will appeal to any fans of orchestral ambient (Rachel's, Richter, Eluvium among many others). Broderick writes simple elegiac melodies that evolve so perfectly. And the songs don't bleed into each other, they maintain their own personality but complement each other strongly. It could pass for an award winning soundtrack imo.
Sylvain Chauveau and Felicia Atkinson - Roman Anglais (O Rosa Records, 2008)
http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fusea...iendid=50870728Sylvain Chauveau(apparently a very versatile composer) puts together some mellow guitar (and some beeps on one track) sounds and has some french chanteuse coo some spoken word over it. Really it sounds like a recipe for disaster but I love this darn thing so far. I can see myself getting lost in this on many Sunday mornings when the morning light bleeds through my shades.

I recently downloaded the bersarin quartett album from earlier this year, and its pretty damn fantastic. sounds kinda like "post-classical" max richter, except with a more electronic edge. also brings to mind stars of the lid, except with more bombast. in other words, its right up my alley.
avec
May 27 2008, 08:23 PM
I'm liking that one too, fans of laid back electronica would like it I think. It doesn't get boring or fall into common traps of post-classical ambient either. Personally I am entirely exhausted of the Richter influenced ambient music. The formulaic melancholy can only go so far.
Threadkiller
May 28 2008, 06:08 AM
My thoughts exactly.
Although its hardly groundbreaking stuff, I find the BQ album so beautiful that it avoids that trap. And really, thats all it needs to do. Sometimes i dont want to be challenged by my music.
The other thing the album does well is showcase a variety of emotion. Melancholy is there, sure, but so is hope, in equal measures. Solid album.
Also: hey avec, have you heard about deletedscenesforgottendreams.blogspot.com? i just recently heard about it from another board. it's a massive blog with insane amounts of ambient/electronic goodness. plus its named after a Caretaker album, which is sweet. you might wanna check it out..

Re: deleted scenes
Oh yeah, they keep a steady flow of ambient stuff up on that site (some of it's great and has turned me on to new artists). I'm trying not to download as much as I used to, if I hear of a band I'll go to their myspace first, and if I'm still on the fence then I'll copy the album from a link.
But that is one of the dwindling blogs I still check now and again.

It's a bizarre little record. The electronic music mingling with the strings and it goes together very well. Classy sounding and trippy, if that makes sense.

Speaking of Caretaker, what's the album with his most 'song-based' stuff? I have
A Stairway to the Stars, which is great, but my favourite tracks are the ones that retain the most structure and I'd kinda love to hear a whole album in that vein. From what I've read, I get the sense that he veered off more into the obliterated sounds, but I've never actually listened to any of his other albums. Should I, and what?

A few things:
* i am relistening to the BQ album for the 4th time today, its just so chill. as always, listen to avec for he speaks the truth. this album is great--the first thing i wanna listen to in the morning and the last thing i wanna hear at night (although my sotl comparison might have been a little of a stretch...i think i was thinking of eluvium when i typed that...dont know why i got the two mixed up). give it a spin before bed, friends.
* vurt: "stairway" is the most song-oriented album in the Caretaker's album. "haunted ballroom" isn't too far off either i guess. after those two lps, he moved towards dark, dense-as-fuck drone. all of his stuff is quality, but there has been that shift. he also has a new one, which sounds like hes moving back to the song-based structure. its called "persistent repetition of phrases", but i havent been able to find it online. the clips ive heard are ace. if some gentle soul happens upon a link to the album, i would love to hear it.
* speaking of links, ive just recently had my harddrive crash. all my fav ambient music (milieu, caretaker, sotl, etc.) has been wiped. my heart aches. sleep doesnt visit me anymore. time to start rebuilding..

I finally picked up the Sundaze LP reissue of USA yesterday.
I'm not really sure of the equipment outside of using an Mbox and just some mono mics, as my friend did all the production (he's a recording engineer major). We used a ton of delay on all the instruments/noisemakers and a bit of reverb on the guitar I believe. I just played a full chord on an old organ with tremolo for about 5 minutes and we looped it. We used a bunch of car keys, a toy piano, running water, and just us singing for background drone/noise. I improvised on piano for about 6-7 minutes and we looped that and my friend improvised on a broken guitar.
