These were always my favorite episodes back in the XRT days. I don't even care what the album is, I just love those shows.

Jim + Greg, please break out the scalpels!

That would be a good idea.

What's been done so far? I know there was an ongoing list that people used to keep track of.
Pavement Ist Rad
The ones I remember:

Sly & The Family Stone - Stand!
The Stooges - Fun House
Sex Pistols - Never Mind The Bollocks
PJ Harvey - To Bring You My Love

Somebody remember some more, please.

they did REM murmur, too.
Duff.
I think they did Sergeant Pepper and Dark Side.

and Exile on Main Street. (at least according to this)

they did Quadrophenia for sure.
Jimmy TKB
I heard the "Exile" one. I would like to hear one of Chicago Transit Authority I. So much great overlooked material, and lots of good stories.
tjenz
I'd like to see them pick apart some Nirvana, Nevermind or In Utero

How about the Replacements' Holy Trinity of Let It Be, Tim, and Pleased to Meet Me, especially with the new Mats compilation coming out soon?

Hope they mention that it won our poll of 1965-74 albums.

Hope that you all liked the show. Let us know about other albums you'd like to hear us feature in the future!

Overall - not too bad. However, the one hour format does limit the review (IMHO). Maybe do them over two shows...

pavement...any pavement album...
pick apart slanted and enchanted!

Dero doesn't like Pavement. Maybe Matt Spiegle could take his place for one show.

This would make it interesting.

I think Malkmus was going to be on Sound Opinions once but he had to cancel. I'm not saying that's why Dero doesn't like Pavement, but it probably didn't help.

pavement is the first band that really challenged me to listen to interesting music...i think a lot of people embraced them in highschool or college...they kinda' became the postmark for a generation of "indie" listeners. They essentially made pop songs but with noise feedback ranting...fuzz. So many bands now have that same "ugly beautiful" sound....they were super influencial and i hope they do a show about them...or sonic youth (they're less poppy though...)

I'd be happy if they dissected "Slanted & Enchanted" but I'd REALLY like to hear them dig in to "Paul's Boutiqe" - biggrin.gif - Unless they've already done it? I'm a 'funky come lately' to SOOP - It sounds like Kott likes "Paul's Boutique" though

How about Public Image Ltd's Metal Box?

in essence they already have, since they bring it up and give it at least a minute of time nearly every time they talk about sampling and or the legal issues that accompany the art.

i enjoy PB much more, but i think a S+E album dissection would be much cooler since they pretty much never talk about pavement.

thundering boredom
Cool show today about the Replacements, but I've always thought Answering Machine (not Unsatisfied, as Jim and Greg suggested) was the biggest song on the record. Nothing funny or cute about it, just the rawest kind of loneliness. Incredible song.

Also pretty funny hearing Gary's Got a Boner being politely broadcast on my local NPR affiliate.

truth.

I've always thought that about "Androgynous." Didn't even get mentioned! They brought up "Sixteen Blue," "Unsatisfied," "Answering Machine"... eh.

One of my favorite songs of all-time.

Actually, four of my favorite songs of all-time.

Me too! Sausage and I were just talking about this last night.

unsatisfied is probably my least favorite song on the record, honestly. it's decent and all...but the "satisfaction" for 1980s indie rockers (as jim refered to it as)? gimme a fuckin break. the song is borderline cheese.

months ago, i emailed the producers the suggestion of getting sonic youth on the show to help a dissection discussion of daydream nation, as it would have nicely coincided with their performance of the album at pitchfork. sadly, it didn't happen.
WearShades
Does anyone know if there's a place I can hear any of these classic album dissections? Especially the Quadrophenia one...
