So what's the verdict? Are we liking online play for the Wii so far? Anything close to the fun Xbox Live?

Not having much experience with Live(played some Halo at a friends place), I can still safely assume that Live is better. I mean just having achievements puts Live a step above Nintendo Wi-Fi. I also wouldn't mind a universal friends list(again the friend code shit coming into play). Strikers has leaderboards, and ranked matches where you don't need to exchange friend codes which is a relief. I played one game where the lag was too much. It made the game unplayable, but that was only one time out of the many games I've played online so far. It's a start for Nintendo, but Live has much more to offer to the online experience.
Undercooked Sausage
FUCK YEAH ACHIEVEMENTS

but the online on wii is okay, not be able to voice chat and talk trash is a GLARING error. i just won a game 15-1 against some choob, and there was another game where this guy was kicking my ass but i megastriked 4 balls in with like 3 seconds left. At least i know i'm making a lot of people curse around the globe.
Sam
No playing last night. Bridge collapse dominated the t.v. viewing, obviously.

As for Wii online, most of my friends have both Wiis and 360s, so we're going to try to chat over the XBOX Live while we play Strikers. Wow, that is geeky. But hopefully it won't cause the Wii to lag too much.

Tonight is gonna be the night where I fire this badboy up.
Undercooked Sausage
Be sure to post your friend code on here when you get crackin, i'll try and be around tonight.

Grand Theft Auto IV delayed until spring. What's up with that?
Undercooked Sausage
gives us some relief for the fourth quarter mayhem that will be upon us.
Andyroo
I completely agree. I'm actually relieved about this delay. I wish all lengthy games came out in the spring and summer so I can spend my fall/winter blowing through a ton of short ones.

OMG my Hot Shots Golf 5 import shipped today. Too bad I'll be in California when it likely arrives this time next week.

No longer buying every major release for the system since being burned with Wii Play and (to a lesser extent) Super Paper Mario. The only Wii purchases I have on my horizon for the rest of the year are Metroid Prime 3 and Super Mario Galaxy. I'm sure something else will pop up, but eh... not much to get hyped up over.
Spiz
yo dan, i tried inviting you but i got an error message. says youre not on, or im not on your roster. are you getting that problem?

yeah nintendo wifi is terrible. its ridiculous.
Undercooked Sausage
you are totes on my roster but i have a habit of just leaving my wii on and signed on the internet so maybe that's why.
Undercooked Sausage
well SPZ and I just tried to play but got disconnected halfway through the match.
Spiz
bastid! i like donkey kong!
Undercooked Sausage
lol @ us having virtually the exact same strategy.
Undercooked Sausage
has anyone ever gotten into lol mismatches where you end up slaughtering them, so they give up and you just start taking turns shooting megastrikes?

I just had a match end 36-27
Sam
This game is fantastic fun. The wife (who is not a gamer at ALL) and I play as a team online. She sux at offense, but calls herself "The Hitter". She takes great pride in levelling people. One game today we had 69 tackles, and another had 75. Held opposing team to 3 or less shots each time.

Dan, I added your new code btw.

good lord, thats a lot of points for your ranking. lucky.
Undercooked Sausage
you can only score 10 points for your goals in one game.
Spiz
ugh, i hate people who make it their business to watch their replays. fucking annoying. acting like they never scored before.
Undercooked Sausage
whoever isn't constantly mashing the A button is a tool.

Though sometimes I start mashing a couple seconds in to catch them off guard.

Check me out, dudes. My first preview for 1UP just went up.

Preview - Jeanne D'Arc (PSP)

Sexxxxxxy.
Undercooked Sausage
nice work. you almost make me want to buy a psp just for that game.
Andyroo
Haha, thanks dude. Though the preview isn't really about the nitty-gritty of the gameplay and such, I have a preview build of it and it's a solid game. Only played about 10 hours of it, but I might put s'more time in while traveling later this week.

Oh man, they made my preview the top story on the main page. smile.gif

well now that i've learned that your win/loss record is wiped every "season" i've lost all will to play mario strikers.

kills any competitiveness the game had, i mean, there's no chat or incentive, i might as well just play the computer on hard.
Spiz
Yeah that sucks, but at least it keeps track of your record all time. The downside is that only you can see your all time record. They should make the seasons longer or something.
Sam
I gotta be honest, the rankings don't interest me in the least. Considering the INSANE amount of time the top guys spend playing the game (750 games the first week? a thousand?) I have no desire to approach it as a competition.

The game is goofy fun, and the matches are short and sweet enough that it never gets terribly repetitive. Would chat make it better? Absolutely; its much more fun when I've been able to talk shit, but even w/o its fun as hell.
ParticleHustler
We bought a Wii last weekend. Gave in to the temptation. I think Nintendo is brilliant in going after families with this concept. My wife and 3 & 8 year olds love playing the games. I see that the Madden Wii version is going to have a stripped down game included so that kids/wives/GFs can play without being overwhelmed by all of the buttons/moves you would normally use.

I haven't followed this thread all that closely, but am I the only SOMB who is into Civ IV? Just got the latest expansion and am greatly looking forward to diving into a game.
SpacemanSpiff
The Stranglehold demo on Live is pretty cool. Makes me want to go off course and actually buy the damn thing, but a rental should be suffice. Also, the fact that GTA 4 has been delayed is fine by me. As a Nintendo fan, I'm quite used to long delays for huge titles. So far, for me, it's worked out in my favor.

we are about 11 days away from bioshock....nothing else matters until I have the collectors edition in my hands come next tuesday!

Just got my Wii a while back and so far so good. Just picked up Super Paper Mario, so we'll see how that turns out. Overall I'm really liking the system so far. Anyone have some favorite games that I should check out?

It seems to me that I'm really going to have to try the games out before I buy with this system. Some of the developers didn't do that good a job programing for the Wii's controls.
biggie mcsmalls
Definitely rent the Wii games before you buy them.

I hadn't owned a video game console in about 5 years since I got my wii, but I'm really enjoying it.

My favorite game so far is Resident Evil 4. It's a port of the Gamecube game (which I had never played), but it has been reformatted for the wii controller and widescreen televisions. While the control scheme can be a bit clunky at times, it's really like nothing else I've ever played as far fps go (or is it third person if you're looking over the shoulder?). There's a great added sense of realism from being able to aim, reload, and knife just using the wiimote.

Game is pretty fucking creepy too, I usually can't help but play standing up.

1. Zelda
2. RE 4(if you haven't played it yet)
3. Mario Strikers Charged
4. Wario Ware

Paper Mario is ok. I don't want to say that much about it because I don't want to ruin the experience for you. I also own Trauma Center, and Metal Slug Anthology, but those are niche titles. Watch out for Metroid in three weeks too.
ParticleHustler
I'm enjoying the Wii Sports Games way more than I should. In fact, considering how demanding I am of realism in my sports games (which is why I usually play text sims over arcade style games), I'm almost ashamed to be enjoying these games so much. I hate golf, but damn if I didn't spend an hour playing it last night. And tennis gets to be fun once you've racked up skill points and can hit harder and more accurate shots. The computer still doesn't use the player up front enough, though.

I hope some of the "real" games translate well to the Wii (Madden, FIFA), or else we'll just be buying some of the fringy stuff for the kids. I haven't touched a Mario-related game since Donkey Kong, so I have no idea what any of these Mario games are like. Maybe my 8 year old would like them...? Right now she and my wife won't play anything other than Marble Mania.
HewlettsDaughter
Mario Party for Wii is pretty fun, but as far as I can tell, it's only fun if you play with friends. We've had some intense Mario Party battles recently that have resulted in much name calling and swearing.

It's definitely awesome as long as you don't mind the plain graphics and sound that is only ok. But really, why the hell would you buy a Wii if you were expecting great graphics and sounds?

What skill level opponents are you playing? I've noticed that once you are playing 1900+ opponents that the front player starts getting in the mix a lot more.

Funny that as the computer's skill level goes up that they return so many out of bounds balls, though.

That's good to hear. I'm nowhere near that level yet. Just started playing, basically. I think I'm around 650. Last night I was around 540 and played two opponents in the 670 range. That was fun, even though I beat them in 3 straight games. It felt like I had more control over where my shots were going and the kind of shot I was hitting. I even felt compelled to use my 2-handed backhand like IRL.

Did anybody get the Metriod Prime 3 download this morning? I couldn't get it to download properly, and now it looks like they took it off Wii Shop. Is it just a video demo, or is it playable?

And I am so goddamn hungover breathing is a chore. ughhghg;lakdngalkdng
Undercooked Sausage
i own the first two primes and havent finished either. the first one gives me a monster headache when I play it. So metroid prime 3 is probably not going to be picked up by me.
Asher Ford
The thing on the Wii Shop channel is just a video, sadly. Can't wait to get playable demos.
Hips
I'm getting XBox 360 tomorrow...the big sweet ass cool one.
