I love Wipeout. I still have the first four games in the series.
The PSP one is really nice, but it's not much different from the previous ones. Not enough to change your mind, at least.

im pretty surprised that like half the seminar geeked out for guitar hero. sadly though, noone got to enjoy the tale of Rock Juice.
Indeed, quite strange that two different Macs had distinct issues with my plain ol' .MPG files. Oh well, got the grade.
I'm just over halfway through Syphon Filter for PSP. It's good for a PSP game, but wouldn't be so grand on PS2. A bit boring, but oh well.
Rufus - How is it? I've never played a Mr. Driller game. Also, can you pin this thread?
fun. its like dig dug meets same game. i played the original for dreamcast at the play on! MSI exhibit, but i couldnt find it for dreamcast so i got the GBA sequel.

Alright, seriously, does it get more badass than this when the words "dark knight" are a common staple in the games script?
Differences:
noticeable graphical touch up on some of the sprites, most notably rosa's.
improved sound.
ATB bars.
Nearly a complete text re-write, guessing because the snes translation was so shitty.
probably based off the hard type version, though I can't tell.
touch ups on the face graphics and they're not included in text bars as well.

Games do leak sometimes, but it's much harder to use than just playing files on your computer... Halo 2 leaked a couple weeks early back in '04. I got to play it a bit, and that's pretty much the only time I ever played that game.
God of War 2 should be awesome, though. I'm about halfway through the original right now. I waited until it was $20 to pick it up.

Beat Syphon Filter last night. One of the better games for PSP, though that isn't say a whole hell of a lot at this point. Here's my
review.
I've gotta beat Kingdom Hearts II by Sunday so I can write a review for the school paper, so I've been focused on that for the last two days. It's pretty awesome; I just completed the Pirates of the Caribbean level, which was fairly faithful to the movie (you know, except for Donald/Goofy/Sora showing up, and that big Pete guy, and the occasional Heartless attack). The only thing I noticed was that you didn't really see the blood when the chick's hand was cut, and Will didn't put the gun to his head when he threatened to kill himself. But I supposed that's to be expected in a game designed for all ages.
I can't wait to get to the Tron level. I think it's still several hours off, though.

Yeah, it came out a couple days ago in Japan, and don't expect it to ever be released here.
Nintendo is basing it's marketing off of the poor sales of it's predeccessor ten years ago, not realizing it's become the biggest cult game of all time.
I remember when Earthbound came out. Nintendo was banking on it to break the RPG genre here in America. Obviously, things didn't go as they had hoped.
Andyroo
Apr 24 2006, 04:55 PM
What he said. Except I do think they'll bring it over here; Nintendo's been very solid recently about bringing over RPGs for the GBA.

Chances of Mother 3 coming here are like 50/50 probably. Though with no announcement from NOA about it at all and the fact that they never ported over the Mother 1 and 2 collection for GBA (which would've been EASY MONEY for them, considering they already have translated both of them) it's not looking good.
I mean, if they're too lazy and unwilling with earthbound to not even port over finished games, what chance do we have for them to translate a NEW earthbound game and bring it here?
Andyroo
Apr 24 2006, 06:49 PM
I totally see where you're coming from, but I also look to the recent releases of Tales of Phantasia and Final Fantasy IV Advance for GBA as examples of why a U.S. release of Mother 3 is likely. Most importantly, both of those games were published by Nintendo, despite being developed by major third-parties. Nintendo wants to keep the GBA platform viable (despite the DS) long enough to launch the next Game Boy (which is, supposedly, a different line than the DS). With many GBA games being kid-friendly or based on licensed properties, I think they're realizing that they need to focus on a wider audience.
That said, I'd put it at about 70%. Each year that passes, we're getting stranger and stranger games, ones that we wouldn't otherwise expect to make it to the U.S. Even though Earthbound didn't succeed a decade ago, I think it has a much better chance in 2006. An announcement at E3 seems likely to me.

Yeah, we're still trying to fight with the moving company to get reimbursed. The timing really sucked because I bought my first new game in months (MLB 06: The Show - hey, i like it) and I had just gotten 10 games into franchise mode. And of course, to ease with the packing and moving that game , along with all of my memory cards, was in the box with the PS2. So now I have to but a new PS2, new controllers, new memory cards, a new game, AND completely start from scratch on all my games.

I'd imagine that's a tough thing to prove. Good luck.
I only played a little bit of The Show, and it seemed pretty decent. Certainly much better than MLB 2K6, but it didn't seem to be up to the greatness level of MVP.

Lesson being, don't use E-Z Movers... very shady company.
The driver kept trying to make my girlfriend tip them before they finished unloading the truck and told her she should tip each mover like five times more than what the company told her over the phone. They told her the average tip was $10-15 per mover, but the driver told us we needed to give them $40-$50 per person. It was just a really shady situation because they kept asking her for the money before they would finish unloading the truck. I think they decided to steal the thing once they knew they weren't getting that crazy kind of tip. Ugh, just pisses me off to think about it.

I've never played Earthbound but I loved playing as Ness in Super Smash Brothers Melee. I never mastered him or anything and I think he was one of the harder characters in the game to play as. But his moves were really fun and with a little bit of luck and skill, I could put on a pretty impressive showing with him once in a while.

I had Final Fight for GBA and it was a pretty faithful translation. Multiplayer was superfun, though my friend had to get a copy of it for himself too (I think) and then we had to get a link cable.
Actually, it's a really cheap game and terribly frustrating at times. I guess I just like the look of it a lot more than, say, Streets of Rage or the later versions of Double Dragon.

Now you would, yeah. Back when it came out (Spring 2000?), I thought it was the hotness. You basically played through the series; mostly battles with the angels, though there were some other gametypes in the missions. Each difficulty level above Easy had an additional level that included the scenes from End of Evangelion, and the final, complete ending had decent video footage from the end of the film. Oh man, thinking about how awesome that was (at the time) pumps me up, haha.
I ended up selling it a year or two ago for $50-60.

It was an import? Was it all in Japanese?
I don't remember seeing very much impressive-looking video on the N64. At least nothing much better than the cutscenes in Goldeneye.
Andyroo
Apr 25 2006, 05:47 PM
Yeah, it's a Japanese import. I shelled out $90+ for it initially.
The video in Evangelion 64 was animation from the series/movie, but shown as a significantly reduced framerate. Yet, I was impressed, so it must have been somewhat decent.
It wasn't too hard to figure out, really. Some things are in English (like in many Japanese games), and knowing the Evangelion lore is a big help.
