Word on the street is that Toys R Us is going to give a $25 gift card w/ in-store purchase of Super Mario Galaxy. So I think I might be coming home with SMG and MoHH2 Tuesday.

FYI, Cheapassgamer.com (CAG) is reporting that Toys R Us is going to have a deal in next weekend's (11/11) ad - buy Mario Galaxy, get a $25 gift card.

They still make PS2 games?
I haven't even seen a PS2 in years. Thought that went the way of the VCR. An antiquity.
It'll be supported for at least three more years. It's still greatly outselling the PlayStation 3 on a month-to-month basis, and it looks like a $99 model (about damn time) is incoming within the next few months.
Sadly, that makes it an easy platform for cheaply made, tossed-together cash-ins.

I haven't even seen a PS2 in years. Thought that went the way of the VCR. An antiquity.
I bought a PS2 last October, the first console I have ever bought. We added a Wii this past July. I have no interest at this point in upgrading to either a 360 or PS3. The PS2 is selling so well that Sony has a legitimate issue on their hands - on one hand, they've got a cash cow that shows no signs of letting up, but on the other hand, PS3 sales are really suffering, to the point that you can almost call off the "next gen wars" in the US. So they continue to make games for the PS2, and people continue to buy both the console and the new games.
These are September's hardware sales numbers:
Xbox 360 527.8K
Wii 501K
Nintendo DS 495.8K
PlayStation Portable 284.5K
PlayStation 2 215K
PlayStation 3 119.4K
Game Boy Advance 75K
Here are August's numbers:
Wii 403.6 K
Nintendo DS 383.3K
Xbox 360 276.7K
PlayStation 2 202K
PlayStation Portable 151.2 K
PlayStation 3 130.6K
GBA 69.5K
As far as individual titles go, the 360 version of Madden obviously out-sold the PS2 version when it was released in August, but then look at the September sales for Madden:
PS2 MADDEN NFL 08 205K
360 MADDEN NFL 08 173K
The PS2 isn't going away any time soon.

I played it for eight hours over the weekend at my brothers house. If anything, 9.7 is too low. TRUST me, it's the most fun I've had playing a game in over a decade at least. I've been driving to gamestop when I can just to play the one they have set up there. The game is like meeting Jesus, Muhammad, and Paul McCartney and then having sex with all of them.

My Gamestop has Mario demoning on their Wii and it is the complete game. The goofballs running the store said that two guys off the street have come in and beaten the game. Each took about 10 hours to get to the end, although they left a large number of stars uncollected. I didn't get a chance to play as another guy (loser) was in the middle of trying to finish the game.
Personally, I think I'll wait a day or two, buy the game and play it at home. Call me crazy.

the Simpsons GameHmm.... graphics are OK for PS2 -
Spyro still looks better. Gameplay is OK, but you gots to fiddle with the camera controls a bit. And the plot is a choppy as anything on their last few seasons. But it's the Simpsons, and it's kinda entertaining (so far).

It's great -- really great -- with several "holy shit" moments, but for whatever reason, I wasn't as into it as the last couple games. I think it's the shorter missions and shorter overall game length. But yeah, absolutely recommended. Haven't even dug into the online multiplayer yet.

Yeah, played the early build in April, the updated build with the Zapper at E3, and another (potentially retail) build last month in London.
It might be decent, but I doubt it'll be a great game. I don't know, the footage shown in London actually made it look slightly more interesting than I thought, but... eh, what I've played has been kinda meh. I'm not into it.

After playing Crysis, any game advertised as "next gen" should be summarily dismissed and laughed at.
Playing Crysis on a 42' plasma is one of the most jaw dropping experiences I've ever had in gaming.
I am also enjoying Call Of Duty 4 and Hellgate: London (despite bugs) on the PC.

I read on one of the blogs that this is the year of the broken street date in video games. People who work at retail can't read. I know those games have giant stickers saying DO NOT SELL TILL whatever date. I'm mostly jealous that Andy is playing Mass Effect, and Dan is FINISHED Mario, and I have to wait. At the same time, I'm not looking very hard.

It does seem like there are more street dated titles this holiday season than usual. Granted, this is my second year in a row of not working retail for Christmas (after working at either GameStop or Best Buy from 2000-2005), but seriously... if you're shipping Mass Effect to stores nearly two weeks ahead of a launch date, that's kind of a douche move as it is. If it's ready and plentiful, release it already.

Right now, asking me, Yes. I think it's better than 64. Not something I'm completely certain about typing. Certainly getting 120 stars is much more CHALLENGING, some of the stars took roughly 30-45 minutes of retrying.
Regardless if it's better than 64 or not, it certainly is on that same level, and aesthetically speaking, Galaxy certainly blows it away, I'm still wowed by it.
According to my Wii, it took about 23 hours of gameplay to get all 120, in 4-5 sittings(can't remember). beating it probably took a little less than half that.
