haha breaking street date is awesome. its fun when people IM me and are like "hey i just picked up mario galaxy" and i'm like "lol i beat that a week ago"
jasperjones
yeah, i remember how proud i was of myself for getting guitar hero 2 a week early.
Andyroo
Due to an inconsiderate suicide in the extended family, my young nephew will be staying the week at my house.

Thus, Rock Band launch is PARTIALLY RUINED.
Undercooked Sausage
I don't think that's the reaction your relative envisioned from you.

Medal of Honor Heroes 2 for Wii is damn good. The control is probably even better than Metroid as far as first person stuff goes. They've got a few gimmicky controls that it could do without, such as twisting the remote to zoom in/out with the sniper rifle (i guess like you would a scope) and putting the remote on your shoulder for the bazooka, but otherwise it's really great. The fact that you can reduce the dead zone (the part of the screen where you can point without moving the camera) to virtually zero really helps.

Haven't played the on-rails mode yet.

My main complaint about the game is the AI. I've only played the mission mode in the easiest setting, but the behavior of enemies was silly even for that at some points. It's certainly not as good as some of the Call of Duty games I've played. However, it's still a lot of fun, with tons of Nazis running at you, and a lot of variety.

The other awesome thing is the multiplayer. It's certainly the most rich online-multiplayer we've seen on the Wii, with games of up to 32 players at a time, deathmatch, team deathmatch, or capture-the-flag. I experienced zero lag. My only problem was that due to my shitty wireless hub, my connection dropped once in a while. But that would happen with any game/system.

All FPS developers for the Wii need to learn from this game. Oh, and my name is also scarymuppet on the EA online thing, so look for me around there.

Nominated for most shallow, materialistic post of the year.
Andyroo
I'm okay with that, considering the circumstances.

Picked up the Wii Zapper with Link's Crossbow Training. The neph seems to like it, and the game actually looks like a lot of fun, considering the price.

We all have it in us at some point or another.

Andyroo
I can't feel bad about the guy. Pretty sure he left young'ins behind.

Galaxy is pretty good. 12 stars in. Just completed the first galaxy and a little bit more. My concern was that the level design would be limited to leaping from small asteroid to small asteroid like in the tutorial. That's what most of the vids online I saw focused on, and glad to see the environment open up a bit.

After spending a fair amount of time with this, Orange Box, Halo3 and Bioshock this fall, its looking more and more like Bioshock is untouchable as GOY.
Undercooked Sausage
your retardedness never ceases to amaze me

Yeaaaaaaahh....I don't know. I haven't played Orange Box or Mario yet, but BioShock won't have an easy go at it. BioShock is beautiful, and the story is well written, and engrossing, but I wasn't wowed the entire way through BioShock, and Halo 3 single player is unplayable IMO(Campaign co-op, and multiplayer is friggin' awesome though). Everything has some flaws I guess though. Really need to get Mario on the cheap come Black Friday. Rock Band tomorrow though.
shimmy
game of the year will be mass effect IMO

can't wait to go pick it up!
Undercooked Sausage
alright i got a copy of rock band sitting in the backseat of my car but no 360 to play it with, lol
Dread
Bioshock and Mass Effect are going to be the only games of 2007 I'll buy this year, but Bioshock is one of my favorite games of recent memory, so I wouldn't be suprised if it wins a couple GOTY awards from... somebody. I haven't been a Nintendo gamer since the 8-bit days so Mario really doesn't mean anything to me (although I always wanted to play 64), and Halo has always been overblown since the days of the first game.

Good thing I'm not doing any voting then since I'll only have those two games.

oh man... blink.gif

i want to play the freaking drums, but my GF has a study group over, and she said the drums are too loud. CURSE YOU CRUEL FATE. the guitar is taking some getting used to. i do enjoy the quiet strum bar, but at the same time it feels weird. kinda like your sacrificing silence for flimsiness(sp?). i havent had the nerve to really try the solo buttons yet either. only during those freestyle parts. but yeah its cool. need to get a bunch of people together to see what its really like.
Andyroo

Reviewing it. Pretty solid so far from what I've played; dig the customization.

Otherwise, just Rock Band. Just Rock Band.

I just played the game with two other people. Sooo fun. Way more exciting than playing alone. Didn't know you had to turn a controller on to use the mic. Spent 20 frustrating minutes NOT playing.
Dread
Um... Mass Effect. Yeah. But I've barely played it.
Spiz
my guitar is broken. just like everyone elses. stupid cheap strum bar.
Andyroo
Hit up the EA Support website and express order a replacement. I did that last night -- they take your credit card info and send you a new guitar (to arrive in about 5 days), then as long as you send back the broken one in the box with the pre-paid shipping sticker within 28 days, they won't charge your card at all.

I wonder if this replacement guitar will be any better than the one I already have (seems like it should be a software issue, not an actually busted strum bar), but meh, not my money.
KENAN THOMPSON
i'll be playing galaxies with my friends from town all night.
thanksgiving night is really the best day of the year to kick back with your old friends and act like 12 year olds

see that's the thing man. i read on the rock band forums that some people have gotten their guitars replaced only to have a new one with the same problem. fix the problem EA before you start shipping guitars again. i'm gonna send mine in too but this is just annoying.

edit

lol one of the options under "which item are you having an issue with?" is "drum stick." are they shipping broken drum sticks too? jeesus.
Undercooked Sausage
my guitar broke so i went out and bought a guitar hero II one lol

my xbox live gamertag is Tim Allen Rulz, add me! we need to form a SOMB rock band,

So Mass Effect players? What's your verdict? Is it awesome? Like a super-sophisticated and 'roided out KOTOR? Or just so-so and too talky like Jade Empire?

I'm pretty curious about this one. And I don't necessarily trust the reviewers on these types of games. Jade Empire had amazingly high reviews, and I didn't think it was quite that fantastic.

I didn't think Jade Empire was as great as a lot of people made it out to be, but I still loved it. Customization was just too barebones.

All in all, Mass Effect is like you might expect KOTOR3 should've been... except with guns. The battles take a little getting used to, and I'm still getting my ass handed to me from time to time 13 or so hours in. The story is pretty standard so far (and sort of Star Wars-esque), but the interaction between the characters is top-notch so that makes it all worthwhile. I like how choosing your background makes certain characters treat you differently, and thus plotlines unfold differently... or at all. If your family and friends weren't killed when you were 16, you wouldn't have a particular sidequest... and that makes me think what I'd be missing had I made a different choice. It's also great to not know exactly what your character is going to say, even when you make a choice on the gist of it.

Glitches and random disc-read errors abound though. But it is a Bioware game, and if you've ever played one before you know that's going to happen and not really care... unless you haven't saved in awhile. Then oops. Save a lot. Hopefully there is a patch someday.
Sam
Good to hear about Mass Effect. Like you, Jade Empire didn't blow me away, so I take my Bioware fellating with a grain of salt. I'll pick this up.

Lolz @ Kotor's Carth Glitch.

I want Mass Effect so bad, now that I have a 'Box I'm playing through Kotor I again with II and Jade Empire next on the list.
Midnite_Vulture
I know I'm a little late, but I'm cosigning on the Super Mario Galaxy lovefest. Classic Nintendo level design.
The Curse Of Millhaven
Played Morrowind again today. I tried to free that slave woman. We got jumped just outside of Ebonheart and I thought "Fuck it, that bitch ain't worth re-starting".

LVL 100 speechcraft, hand-to-hand combat. Fun. happy.gif

Look what I'm reviewing this week:

ZOMG. I'm actually pretty interested in seeing how Cruis'n turned out. The fact that it's a Wii exclusive and apparently hasn't been demoed to anyone is a frightening prospect, but it sounds almost San Francisco Rush-ish. I'm down for a silly arcade racer right now.

Otherwise, crawling through Uncharted and, y'know, the usual Rock Band obsession. Downloaded the Bowie and QOTSA packs today, along with "Juke Box Hero." So rad.
Undercooked Sausage
i was hoping no one would quote that previous post of mine because im changing my gamertag soon

also, LOL @ cruis'n, the screenshots of that game made it look like a N64 game.
Undercooked Sausage
okay, my new gamertag is "Dr Tug"

please add me, I like to have friends
Andyroo
Whoaaaaaaa, turns out that Cruis'n is a mashed-up port of the most recent Fast and the Furious arcade game... which plays just like the old Cruis'n games... and that I played a significant amount of for free at some bar in San Francisco in April. Awesome, haha.

Hahahah, yeah I made Nutsack months ago in a drunken stupor.

what is the gamestop debacle that is being spoken of?
jasperjones
whoooops, i meant gamespot. basically, the editor was fired due to a bad review (6.0) for Kane and Lynch that angered the publisher (Eidos, I believe) who was a big advertiser on the site. Sounds like they then went on to threaten to pull their ads which would result in a big money loss for gamespot. so in order to please eidos, gamespot fired their editor. good journalism ethics. dry.gif
