I'm not even going to open this yet and fool myself into thinking I'll actually have the time to play this.
Currently working on Warriors Orochi (PSP) for review and doing an absolutely absurd amount of magazine work, all due by Friday. So no gaming for fun on the horizon, sadly.
is this FFVII w/ updated graphics or something?
BTW, to andyroo or anybody else who would know- what's a good starting point for Final Fantasy? I've played through most of FF2 (US name) and while very fun (until I accidentally overrode save file), I was hoping for a more modern graphics type thing. Should be noted I will play on an emulator because my brother took all consoles to college. So basically PSX, PS2 releases...
for a more traditional style fantasy rpg, ffVI (FFIII in the US) on the SNES is the way to go.
is futuristic dystopia is your style go with FF VIIfor PS
and for more of a live action feel rather than turn based, like parasite eve or mmorpgs, go with FFXII for PS2

My brother is trying to tell me that Nintendo makes a controller that has close to 200 of the original NES games on it that you simply plug into the TV. I can't find anything like this online.
Do you gamers know if this exists or is my brother lying to me as I suspect he might be?

just download an NES emulator and a bunch of roms then play on your PC. but only if you own the games for real- otherwise it's illegal!!
Thank rufus

Going to check out FFVII (I downloaded the PC version... stationary backgrounds that the character can only move through by one path... is that how it is on PSX?)
I'll probably end up enjoying FFXII the most, I much prefer the real time rather than turn based combat in any game (well, except CivIII)

i was mostly joking. we were a sega family, all my pre-n64 nintendo is from emulation
most emulation any company doesn't care about, unless the games are still being produced. even then, it's highly unlikely you will get caught. they'de only be able to bust you if you were caught DLing a BIOS, which is unlikely because they have to ask ISP's or the police to match a recorded IP to a person. Or if you host a BIOS download...

really nick, emulators are the way to go. pick up a cheap pc game pad form best buy, install fce ultra or whatever the kids are using these days, and get some ROMs. why pay for what you can get for free? also, there is no website i can really point you to for the all in one devices. the people who make those are too shady to have websites as far as i know.

your best bet is Final Fantasy III(VI) for SNES or Final Fantasy VII(PSX) but 7's dated 3d might be a turnoff.

i find the 2d of SNES much nicer than the graphics of FFVII. it feels like the graphics are more comfortable on snes and kind of forced into 3d in ffvii, at least from what i've seen...

The blocky characters in FFVII are dated, but nothing really else is. No more than any other game from 1997 at least. There's still a level of craftsmanship in the pre-rendered environments that some games even today can't live up to.

OK, so like, the first quarter is done. What are your favorite games of 2008 so far?MINE!
1. PixelJunk Monsters (PS3)I just (literally minutes ago) completed the final, absolute last stage in this game, and man was it a badass ride. Absolutely never thought I'd care about this game, but I've sunk at least 25 hours into it (many of those over the last five days) and am crazily anticipating the expansion pack this month. Glorious.
2. Burnout Paradise (360, PS3)Huge Burnout fan, was a bit apprehensive about this, but it essentially combines the best parts of Grand Theft Auto (cruising around a big ol' city) and most of the best parts of the previous Burnout games to create something pretty spectacular and visionary fo' sho.
3. Hot Shots Golf: Out of Bounds (PS3)To be fair, I played a lot of this in 2007 via the Japanese import version, but I gladly ditched it early and have been enjoying the North American release all over again.
Also worthy of a little praise: Downstream Panic (PSP), Wipeout Pulse (PSP), N+ (360), Patapon (PSP)
Alright, go! (Cue flood of Smash Bros. mentions)
Oh also, I imported Echochrome (PSP), Taiko Drum Master (DS), and a white DualShock 3 controller last week, all set to arrive this week, hooray and such.
