Tetris votes will be just filed under "Tetris" unless it's something goofy/radically different like Tetrisphere, but that game isn't worthy of anyone's list anyway.

How would you want to do Tetris? It's been done on just about every platform, but I wouldn't say the game play has changed at all from the original version.
If there was a change in gameplay or design between say the NES and GB version of Tetris, then yes they should be specified. As there was no significant change one should count them as singular game; Tetris.
The focus and design of Halo changed between episode 1 and 2. They are not the same game.
QUOTE
My argument is more in the case of Sim City, Wrestlemania, John Madden, or puzzle game franchises.
Depends on the puzzle game in question. Some had changes in gameplay (if a sequel was made at all) enough to warranty a second ranking as a wholly different game.
I would say every Sim City has had significant gameplay changes. And not always for the better as later versions would show.

Yeah I think Chrono Trigger is probably at the top of my list. I play that game pretty much once a year, and I can't get enough of it. Even though I swore off JRPG's(not totally, but pretty much), I seem to still enjoy Chrono Trigger. I love the story, the combo attacks, the MUSIC.

ROM

end of high school and the top games lists have given me free time and some inspiration. ive got my old n64 controller hooked up to my PC and using the dpad+C buttons so it's actually pretty much the same button layout as an snes controller.
i was only 5 when CT and the entire 16bit generation was goin on, so i missed a lot. my brother got a genesis, so most of my "historic" game knowledge is watching him play sonic once in a while. now's a good a time as ever to catch up on the big releases...

yes. and I highly recommend using a gamepad, it feels much better to play than with a keyboard. they keys are sometimes awkward to press (because they are staggered) and it's hard to remember what is what after a while. one of the bests is an xbox cuntroller plugged into the usb port. I personally use an n64 gamepad and it's perfect. Windows should recognize the controller and you can config the sensitivities and whatnot, then in ZSNES you map the buttons however you please.

Do you play enough Wii for such a thing? I rarely do.
On that note, I
just reviewed Speed Racer for Wii and found it surprisingly great, despite a bare-bones campaign and limited set of track environments. A lot of people will probably struggle with the $50 price tag, but it's a great rental, or something to pick up in a couple months.

No, but the Wii demands more of me physically than any other console.
Andyroo
May 20 2008, 11:44 AM
Looking back on the games I've played a reasonable amount of on the Wii in the last several months (Super Mario Galaxy, Mario Kart Wii, Geometry Wars Galaxies), most of them require very minimal physical movement. Wii Sports was certainly fun for a bit, but if I recall correctly, I've yet to find a truly active Wii game that has kept me enthralled for any long period of time.
Has anyone downloaded LostWinds from WiiWare yet? There are some pretty excellent reviews out there; it sounds like a Metroid-esque platformer that's only $10. I'll grab it soon, just curious if anyone had any impressions.
New Rock Band DLC is out, too. Ugh, I need to get caught up on game stuff this week.
Tracy Jacks
May 20 2008, 11:58 AM
I played Lost Winds at a friend's house and didn't get it. They replaced a perfectly fine jump button with the wind controls that are imprecise and frustrating. Having the wind controls not working, dumping you down a hole to an area that you've already escaped from twice is not my idea of fun. The initial area was boring, nearly devoid of enemies and puzzles. I totally don't get the good reception for this game.
I have downloaded My Life As A King and am enjoying it. The gameplay is too simple, there is not enough strategy, but it is fairly addictive trying to open up the next dungeon, level up your characters, or get that next city upgrade.
Pop is a novelty demo that is not worth it's low price, although it is fairly well executed in it's limited way. A missed opportunity for a action puzzler
Star Solider R is a very entertaining shooter, great graphics and gameplay (albiet simple), with a good online ranking system. However it really only has one level, is repetitive, and does not offer enough content for even $8. If they had made, say 3 unique levels instead of one level with a long time and short time mode, this would have been great. I had fun last night getting the 4th place ranking for the 2 minute game for the Northeast, which won't hold up for long.
My first impression of the Wii-ware games is that while all of them seem to be well made and somewhat entertaining, all of them seem to be a bit of a ripoff when you consider the cost vs. the actual amount of content provided.

I ordered one at midnight from bestbuy.com because I was worried about finding it, but still wanted to try to get one today. Ran to Best Buy this morning; saw someone walking out with it and thought I was safe. No go -- worker dude said they had about 40 and had sold out early (the guy walking out with it might've reserved one, or just walked around for a while). But I ran over to Target and they had a pair on the shelves, so I nabbed one. Not sure what I'll do with the .com-ordered one yet -- either return it with the Target receipt or eBay it (or sell it to a friend at face value), depending on the best use of my time.
Hauling my Wii and stuffs downtown tonight to play it with Gena.

Yeah, I could do that. I paid for shipping on top of tax and stuff, so I'd be looking for $110 for it, which is rounded down a couple bucks from what I paid (it'd cost him $98 with tax included in stores, anyway). I regularly get disc-read errors on my 360. Here I was thinking that the red lights was the only issue the system had. Oops! It's not a huge deal, as I can still sit for hours and play and not have it affect my game, but it did teach me to save often while I was playing Lost Odyssey, and it's a good thing GTA has an autosave now. It started happening when I got Mass Effect, but then when I read other people were having errors with that game I figured it was something with the game. But then LO came out, and... nope. Other people weren't having that issue, and it's continued with GTAIV. I'm thinking after I complete GTAIV and another game I'm borrowing from a friend I'll see if I can send it in.
