i finally got pcsx2 working properly on my laptop and started playing kingdom hearts last night
gonna try out ff xii but it might require too much from my system. i hope ff x works better....
Ennui
yeah, damn ffxii won't run properly, lags a ton. pretty annoying that good pcs with much more power can't emulate a glorified video card properly
MadroXXX
system specs plz

im using a dual core and wondering if i could handle PS2 emulation
Ennui
intel core2duo t9300 2.50ghz 6mb l2
nvidia geforce 9500 512mb
3gb ddr2 ram

i can run kingdom hearts 1 perfectly, ffxii is very jerky during gameplay and tends to have the screen shake like crazy in some parts, shadow of the colossus is like ffxii, havn't tried out okami or ffx yet. sometimes it's the game that is the issue, but FFX and FFXII are both confirmed to work perfectly
MadroXXX
i have a little bit more ram but otherwise your rig kicks the shit out of mine

oh well
Ennui
it's probably not worth it atm. i just have nothing better to do and bought a gamepad on a whim
maybe in a couple of years the emulator will be more streamlined and efficient so it requires less power and can run most games properly
Dread
I was pretty hyped for Braid, but then when I found out a game that only last for a few hours that doesn't have much replay value is going to cost $15, I changed my mind. I'm just going to get the demo.
Hips

color me excited!
MadroXXX
why the fuck did i just buy a modded psp
Ennui
idk but i'll buy it if you don't want it anymore....
MadroXXX
i got it for eighty bucks

i'm going to use it to play dissidia final fantasy when it comes out and the God of War game and the star ocean remakes

i guess its kinda worth it
Efrim
Holy shit - where have you been all my life, Psychonauts? Probably not even half way through it yet, but this is easily one of the best platformers ever made. I'm in love.

Ennui
yeah that's a solid deal, pink. the only reason i was interested was for FF and GoW, maybe also load some other emus like GBA/snes and have te luxury of playing those games in a mobile way
James D
My subscription for AoC has expired and I won't be extending it.

Overall, I enjoyed the game and it is quite remarkable for me to constantly playing just one game as I have with AoC. So based on this fact, AoC and journey back into MMO's can only be viewed as a sucess. Who knows, maybe if they release a new add on with different levels, I'll revisit it.

It's nice to be able to play on dfferent games again though. Company of Heroes remains absolutely awesome online. Supremely balanced game. Plus, these new updates for Team Fortress seem pretty cool
Ennui
i think i'm going to cancel my subscription, too
i had fun getting to lvl 30 pretty quickly but the game hasn't really hooked me and it renews on the 9th. so yeah, it was fun for a while but i never really found much incentive for getting to level 80 to raid or whatever. it's just a shame that i spent $50 for the game and didn't "complete" it and only played ~20hrs or less

but FFX is working on my emulator and that will keep me entertained for some time, as should kingdom hearts

It's a wonderfully weird and funny and challenging (but not too difficult) game. Just wait until you get to the Milkman level. The first time I played that level it screwed up my equilibrium. Tim Schafer's a pretty cool game maker. I'm looking forward to his next one -- Brutal Legend.

Oh man, I loved the Milkman conspiracy level. So errie and with such an interesting design. fuuuuukcckkk this game is so goood.

I picked up Psychonauts for Xbox last year on the cheap and still haven't played it yet. It's in the queue... sigh.

EDIT: Oops, this is Andyroo. Gena was still logged in on my laptop. BOO.

lol. The idea of Gena having a video game queue definitely raised some questions.

I guess the next big MMO release is in September with Warhammer Online: Age Of Reckoning. I signed up for beta over a year ago and still haven't managed to get an invite. Can't wait to check it out, guess you can download the beta client the 15th and open beta will start sometime after that.
James D
Yeah, but by that time i'll have started this new course that I've applied for. But yeah, by all accounts it does sound pretty cool. Pvp orientated, isn't it?
Chronodiggity
The Water Temple is easily the most convoluted piece of shit ever.

RAISE DA WATER LVL
Ennui
OoT?

Chronodiggity
of schmourse
Ogawa
Link to the Past is much better than Ocarina of Time.
Chronodiggity
So wrong, as a completer of both games.

The water temple was so frustrating I had to play some Hangtime, but I'm back to trying to figure this stupid shit out. It's weird, because I basically still have every dungeon in this game memorized except this one. Insufferable.
Asher Ford
I don't know if I've mentioned this before, but the best Zelda game ever was Four Swords Adventure on the gamecube. The gameboy link gimmick was annoying to setup but totally worth it. Also one of the best party games ever.
Chronodiggity
wow

talk about total blasphemy
Chronodiggity
okay, so i figured it out

You have to raise the water level to the middle level, so that the block in the main tower in the middle of the temple stops blocking that room underneath it (next to the spikes). Then there's a small key in there that lets you open that door on the top floor.

I always make this same fucking mistake every time I play this game
James D
Agreeing with Chrono on both points.

Whilst Mario 64 took 3D platforming to another level, Ocarina of Time unveiled a completely different way to make a 3D adventuring game. Automatic jumping which worked perfectly, the z-targeting system which was completely natural, the weapons (archery and boomerang in particular), great story telling and some brilliant mini-games. So many 'this game is some next level shit' moments that I still remember to this day. And it has been years since I've played it.
Chronodiggity
I mean, there's a reason it's one of the consensus picks for best game ever. Innovation yes, but the graphics still look good, the way the sound meshes perfectly with the feel of the game, the control, the engrossing story, fierce weaponry, and fine tuned difficulty. It's true art.
MadroXXX
i'm trying to teach my 4 year old brother (5 in a month) how to play OoT right now, and it's such a waste of time (teaching him, not the game)

he could barely control mario in super mario 64, and couldn't get a play off in nfl blitz, i don't know why i thought this would be a good idea

Dude. Yes. It's the level design. It's not explicit enough in showing you precisely how everything changes when you change the water level. It brings trial-and-error into play, which is less than ideal.

Also, who's played this one:

Gotta love the DS.
wakingrufus
i played that awhile back. that boat captain dude creeped me the fuck out. he basically kidnaps link. he might as well have said "get in my boat i have candy" to him.
Tracy Jacks
I do love the DS. But Phantom Menace, I mean Phantom Hourglass, was a big disappointment. The game was generally weak, but the timed, repeat dungeon killed the game.

Nah. Good fun. It's not in the discussion of best games ever or even, like, top 5 zelda games ever. But for a handheld game? It's one hell of a well-designed adventure.

I liked the timed aspect of that dungeon. A number of times I got down to my final minutes and really felt the heat. Cool element to add to the game.

Just finally picked up a new gaming console to replace my PS2...got an XBox 360. It's pretty sweet, even on my crappy regular def TV, I can't wait til I get a new TV and play it on that. Madden looks sooooo good, even on the shite TV.

Looking forward to the new Tiger Woods game, too. Might try to find a used copy of Halo 3 or something, too....

Sweeeeeeeet!

smile.gif
Ennui
halo 3 is an abomination of gaming
Spiz
Not that I totally disagree, but I'd like to hear you elaborate on that statement. I enjoy the multiplayer, but it's an FPS for FPS noobs. Like me. smile.gif
I'm more of a TF2 guy myself, but only the noob 360 version.

Sausage, no Wind Waker? C'mon. I like Wind Waker more than Twilight Princess anyway. Also, I'm a Phantom Hourglass hater as well.

Also, Bionic Commando:Rearmed is flippin' sweet, but the 360 controller sucks for this game.
Asher Ford
I've spent more time on halo 3 this summer than any other game ever. Unbelievably fun online competitive play just gets better every game.

Also, the major factor behind my enjoyment is this: It's the ONLY decent splitscreen Live game I can find! COD and TF2 are fun and all but, no split-screen kills it because I only take the time to play videogames when my brother wants to anyway.

Speaking of Team Fortress 2, the Heavy Update is rolling on next Tuesday followed by another free weekend starting the 22nd. Go here for more info, http://steamgames.com/tf2/heavy/

"In addition to the three unlockable weapons and thirty-five achievements for the Heavy, we've got a new game mode with five new arenas for it, a new Payload map focusing on more open spaces than Goldrush, and another popular community-made map."

Ah, Valve. You're the greatest.

did i say anything about the stylus controls? (which admittedly arent bad but accomplish nothing a traditional setup couldn't have done)

the game was fucking awful on it's own merit, not because of the hardware

just making sure credit is given where it's due

I need to get this on the PC. Console TF2 players are still waiting for all of those other updates Valve has promised to bring to the 360/PS3 version. They're probably not going to do it until all of the classes get their update.
Melted Cheese
Jeebus.

So I finally got around to playing Mario Galaxy. (That is, finally got around to moving in with a dude who owns a wii). This fucking game, man.

I got 30 stars in my first sitting. I'm not even sure how long I played. Pretty sure I missed out on a beautiful summer day. I'm okay with that.

I'm on a forced hiatus for a couple days, but I expect to be offering more impressions as I progress. I'm really just baffled by how awesome this game is so far. There are so many moments where I'll literally shake my head or just say (out loud to an empty room) "This game is just so COOL!"

My favorite galaxy so far has probably been battlerock, though I might actually like all of the mini one-star mini-game type galaxies the best. Surfing, ball-rolling, bubble-blowing... the Wii controls are executed beautifully.

The game also just looks really great. It's such a pleasing world in which to immerse yourself. Colors and sounds galore (and a fairly kick-ass soundtrack, actually). I'm also please with just how MARIO everything feels. Soundtrack, design, controls, environments... feels familiar in a good way.

I just can't really say enough good things about this game right now. AND I HAVE NINETY MORE STARS TO GET!

Awesome.

I haven't played this game in months, but this will make me fire it up. This game was down to literally 1500 players. They finally added some new content and a free weekend a short while back and now it's back to 10,000 online players. Also, there is rumor of a new gameplay mode and new map textures (thank God). I'm a huge TF fan, but the crappy linea CP point maps killed the game for me. Hopefully this is rectified on Tuesday.

I thought I would have been the only one to rank Link's Awakening that high. Sometimes I feel like nostalgia plays a heavy role in my ranking, but it's a game that I go to over and over again like a good book. Probably the best score and the best ending out of the series.

Link's Awkening is very justifiable at the top of the pile. Just an excellent game.
