Playing the new Piranha Bytes SP RPG, Risen.

It's sorta clunky and rough around the edges. But it has an odd, compelling charm.

I'm enjoying the game

I've been up to my eyeballs in Baldur's Gate II in anticipation of the new Bioware title coming soon. I had played it when it first came out and got maybe 10 hours in when my PC was toasted by a horrible power surge. I couldn't play it again until I absolutely forgot 99% of the storyline that I had encountered, which is now, and I'm loving it.

This is the first game I've gotten into since getting married and it should be interesting to see how my wife reacts to my devotion to it.

I'm playing this in preparation as well.

Really digging Aion.

This shit is awesome. We hold 2 fortresses in the Abyss already. None have been able to overthrow us.
wakingrufus
Has anyone else picked up brutal legend yet? Ive played it a few hours. I am enjoying it so far, but that might not last, i will have to see how it progresses from here. i also have to try multiplayer still

What class did you chose?
Damo Suzuki
Chanter and Assassin
Damo Suzuki
Heh. My guild had too many healers. So two of us rolled DPS; my Assassin and my bud's Sorcerer. Now we are more balanced with healers, tanks and DPS. Soon 2 other friends of ours are going to join up; Templar and Ranger, basically.

We are trying for our 3rd fortress but we may be spread too thin in members to hold all 3 at once. We can repel the demons without too much trouble. The real challenge is when other players hit our fortresses. Though so far our group coordination is enough to beat them back.

Since we all have experience playing together over 3 MMOs now, we know our roles rather well and use vent the whole time we play. We tend to not jump classes either. I am usually a healer, Tags is usually a mage, Tools is always a tank, Twixy is usually DPS etc, etc.

Pretty hardcore endgame focused group of dudes. We raid for 4-6 hours a night in 2 games.
yeknom
I ended up playing a ranger. only 22 right now, but interesting so far...slowed down a bit because I got bored with the area for the campaign quests in the late teens, early 20.
Dread
I picked up Borderlands today. It's solid fun on co-op. I have a feeling that, like RE5, it wouldn't be nearly as fun as the single player campaign.

Been playing the new D2 clone torchlight. It's got some annoying minor problems but mostly it's a lot of fun. If you enjoy D2 style hack and slash I'd definitly recommend checking out the demo. Or you could wait for diablo 3 in like 2045 or whenever they get around to releasing it.
Tracy Jacks
Thanks for the tip, as I can't wait for D3. Of course this will take an immediate back seat to Dragon Age on Wednesday.
yeknom
Dragon age hasn't dissapointed so far.

I don't play video games all that often but I am really looking forward to playing Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2.

It looks fantastic, it's about time they brought some new 2d platforming to a console other then the DS. I wish the multiplayer had online though.

The extent to which you can screw over your teammates is what i truly love.

Just finished this. It was like playing an endless cutscene. Lots of tedious shooting, lots of dying and reloading, and endlessly spawning bad guys. All the levels seemed so disconnected from one another and I never really understood what the point was other than traveling toward a white blip and pressing F to complete arbitrary mission goals. There was never a real sense that I was an active participant in the story.

It's clear there was tons of money funneled into the game, but there's a serious lack of vision in both the narrative and design. It's like the Transformers of video games. Mass market crap that looks good but is ultimately soulless, aspiring to the worst kind of Michael Bay bullshit filmmaking. It's sad enough that games are still trying to be movies, but to choose Bay as the big inspiration is just pathetic.

How does it compare to part 1? I rented part 1 played through the single player and was entertained for a few hours....figured i'd do the same with this one. This review makes me think it might just be a waste of time even for a rental.

New Super Mario Brothers Wii on the other-hand is a masterpiece. The level design especially from world 5 onwards is flat out brilliant. Easily my favorite mario game since the nes/snes era. I haven't even tried the multiplayer yet, should definitly add some replay value.
Ogawa
I wasn't a huge fan of the first one either, so if you enjoyed the first one you might be able to get some enjoyment out of this one. Like I said, it's a good-looking, big budget game. It's "bigger and better" so to speak and there are a few scenes that may or may not knock you on your ass. I didn't like it, but judging by the general response I'm in the extreme minority.

Play it online you fools

Eh. There are better games to play online.

Modern Warfare 2? Meh no thanks. Team Fortress 2 is all the online shooter I need.

Haven't played a game in ages, but decided to open Steam last night and saw Far Cry 2 for $9. The sale ends today if anyone is interested. Looks like a killer open world type of experience.

My hard drive failed 30 hours in to Dragon Age. Don't know what I'm going to do or if I want to keep on living.
petras
Just got around to starting mother 3. I'm finding it to be a great game about 4 hours in but maybe a tad overhyped. Been a long time since I played a great old school JRPG. Definitly brings back memories.
Damo Suzuki
Finally finished Dragon Age. A bit slow since I been pretty busy lately. I found the difficulty at normal a bit too relaxed. So I turned it up. Still DAO was not the tactically unforgiving RPG I wanted from Bioware and the pedigree of this game. I feel like I have to play "dumb" for the game to be a challenge. Not use of tactics, just use a single mage, wear low tier equips, etc, etc. Otherwise I could roll through the battles with 2 mages and 1 tank and be in zero danger of dying.

At the battle of Flemeth, I took a rogue with t3 equips, 2 mages with t4 staves and a tank in full Juggernaut set. I was able to use the mages to shut down the battle totally. The tank needed 2 heals and 1 pot for the fight. While the rogue crit in safety and the controller broke her debuffs. For a epic battle it was all... ZZzzZZzz.

Never mind the sheer power of 2 mages stacking AOE with a Forcefield on a tank using Threaten + Taunt.

Still, I enjoyed the world fiction and pacing of the story. Here's hoping some one mods a more difficult gameplay enhancer as they did for FO3 and KOTOR.
Efrim
Using one mage is for suckers in DA: O
Damo Suzuki
I thought it was a pretty big design flaw S&B Warriors didn't truly hold aggro better over 2Her Warriors. There was really no reason to go S&B on your tank since Threaten + Taunt were enough for a Berserker to hold aggro and DPS. Traditionally, a S&B tank should have the advantage in hate generation, trading his DPS for defense and the power of attrition. But there was none of that in DAO. You couldn't even use the shield as a stat stick. Really disappointed with the tanking mechanics.

At one point, I dropped Alistair from the party altogether. My Arcane Warrior/Blood Mage was a superior tank. With Morrigan as CC/off heals and 2 rogues I waltzed through every encounter. When I was able to sustain the death aura (auto-MP regen in combat), keep Combat Magic (Intelligence satisfies Str check) up with Telekinetic Weapons (SP*0.5 AP/per member, sustained), it was like hitting the EZ-Switch.

Two archers rotating Pinning Shot and Scattershot was just as sick. If melee closed the distance, Below the Belt and Rapid Fire were enough to cut down rushers. You didn't even need Dex. Just a high Cunning stat and nothing could resist your maneuvers.

It would not have been so bad if the AI was as tactically clever as a player. Such a shame. Because I think the elements are there to have a solid tactical experience. But their system, was just too basic. Positioning, hate, CC and all that had no real limitations.

What can you do though? 2.5E was years in the making and tested by the best tactical gamers of the time for over 20 years. Hard to beat the encounter with the Fiends in the Throne of Bhaal or the earth Dragon encounter of BG2. Heck, even the battle with Irenicus showed how one mage could decimate your party of 6 within seconds if you built your team poorly. Or Madea at the end of IWD2 crushing your party without mercy.

I long for that level of depth in Western RPGs again.

Fuck it. I'm gonna play Wizardry II.
Damo Suzuki
Although I did LOL @ the first Sloth Demon encounter when my warrior auto-switched to Shield Wall. I just blasted Crushing Prison, Living Nightmare and Vulnerability Hex and it was over by the time Virulent Bomb popped. XD
Efrim
I'm doing that blood mage/arcane warrior combo on this new playthrough and it is pretty game-breaking.

Finally got my Wii online. My code is 7928 1221 5545 3992.

I mostly play Madden 09 and Mario Strikers Charged. I also have GH 3 and World Tour. Suppose I should get Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros. Brawl now.

Does that do anything to the AI or just make the enemies hit harder/take more damage to kill?

rarely post in this thread, but quick question:

Best Buy is selling Mad World for the Wii for 9 bucks. There was a lot of hype before that game came out, and then it all fizzled. Anyone know if it's worth the 9 bucks?

not a very deep game, but it is entertaining for the violence factor.

Thanks. I'll probably pick it up just because of the price point, and my low expectations will hopefully be met.

Just beat the main game portion of Super Mario Brothers Wii. Really such a fun game(Maybe a bit easy. But,the coin challenges will keep me busy for a while.).It's such a breath of fresh air playing Mario in 2D.Honestly this is the way Mario is meant to be played(Am I the only one who didn't like Galaxy at all.).

Just did the same, and am working on the coins now. Awesome game, though....feels like the true sequel to SMB 1 and 3, and I suppose the one for SNES. Mario Galaxy was ridiculously fun too, but it amazes me that it's been so long since a 2D Mario. Seems like Nintendo should have departments working solely on 2D Mario games.....and one for Zelda games. Hasn't it been WAY too long since Twilight Princess?

Particularly when you consider that TP was a holdover from the GameCube.

Been playing Dr. Mario Online Rx from WiiWare. If you're a fan of the game, online play can be addicting. On average I play about 20 straight games with the same person.

Alright I was wrong about Bioshock. Very, very wrong. Maybe it's because my gfx card was weak at the time. Anyway, my gf gets me a new vid card for Christmas, and I give Bioshock another try on high settings last week, and for about two hours this weekend. The lack of choppiness and the beauty of the game allowed me to give it more time, and I have to say I am completely floored. The ambiance is as thick as maple syrup and the story is enthralling. It's a great game, better than most I have played. I'm terrible at it, but it's so much fun. I'm trying to kill my first "big daddy", and am doing a very poor job. Game is nuts.
Blonde Almond
Bioshock is my favorite game of the decade. No other game has immersed me in its world as completely as that game does. The first trip down to Rapture is one of the all-time best moments in videogames.

Darksiders is fantastic. A gothic take on Ocarina of Time.

Started playing Runes of Magic for the PC a couple weeks ago. Took forever to download and install, but it's free and an excellent game. It's like a free version of World of Warcraft/Dark Age of Camelot/Everquest.

This video is old. You can now play as an elf too, and the servers now have more of people on playing the game.
