I remember when the Wii was first announced, there was talk of hundreds of games available on the virtual console--pretty much all games released on a Nintendo platform. I have a sinking feeling Nintendo is going to drop the ball, and we won't even get a sliver of that

They're not going to make everything available from day one... I think the launch selection is a bit light, but it's not unexpected.
I just finished Bully. Good stuff, though not quite GTA Jr.
About to start Final Fantasy XII. I've got Power Stone Collection (PSP) coming shortly for review.

I've been playing a lot of Hexic HD lately.
Picked up the 1,000,000 cumulative points Achievement last night... topped all of my friends on the leaderboards... such an amazing game.
I played Lumines Live! til I hit about 325k last night and gave up. With the PSP version, you could just pause and turn the system off and come back to it. Too bad you can't do that with the 360.
hexic is awesome but those black pearls achievements are whack.
the psp always went to sleep. you can kinda do that with the 360, but since it has no battery the power has to be on.
any of you planning on getting Gears Of War next week? i'm pumped but suck at online play (in anything).
also, someone talk me out of gameznflix.com. i know it makes sense, but i just like having a game an knowing it's mine. wierd?

I'm not going to buy Gears of War, but we are supposedly on the list to get one for Static. So if that happens, I'll nab that, otherwise I may pick it up after Christmas if it's really all it's cracked up to be.
Final Fantasy XII is pretty.

Once again, I'll cop to being an unconventional gamer...
Front Office Football 2007 was released last Friday and I've been playing the hell out of it. Forget the pretty graphics and joysticks of Madden, this is a glorified spreadsheet game with stunningly accurate stats, gameplanning, roster management, contract negotiations, drafting, salary cap, etc.

Picked this up tonight. I'm supposed to get a review copy, but I wanted to start over the weekend, so I'll just return the review copy with my receipt, should I get it.
Played a few races (already 4% done, damn) -- pretty solid. Not terribly different from Most Wanted, which was fantastic, but I hear the police chases are less common... bad move.

Alright, let's get some action in here.

I'm picking this up tonight. A buddy is holding one at an EB til close, so I'll jet out there later on. I had planned to wait until a review copy came in, but here are the things that made me change my mind:
- Cinematic, said to be very akin to Resident Evil 4, the best game of 2005
- Excellent, excellent reviews (9.6 - GameSpot, 9.4 - IGN, 10 - 1UP)
- Fantastic commercial, supposedly directed by David Fincher (featuring Gary Jules' cover of "Mad World")
- Said to be 10-12 hours long, which is totally manageable for me
Having decided not to bust my ass any further to get a PlayStation 3 this year, and with my parents saying they'll pay for a larger chunk of the Macbook I'll be buying soon, I feel a bit better dropping $60 on another game. Plus, if I do get the review copy I'm on the list for, I can always return that with my receipt and get the cash back. So, win-win.
Who else is getting it?

Gears of War is by far the best reason to buy a 360 at this point, but I'm still getting a Wii first. Anyone know when Guitar Hero for the 360 is due out??

Sometime in the Spring. I'll probably buy it again, if I can't get a review copy. I'm sure there will be a solid amount of bonus songs, and potentially downloadable song packs.

My thirty minutes spent with Gears of War can't say anything really conclusive... it's as beautiful as you expect, maybe more so, and the first half-hour wasn't terribly exciting, but my buddy has played a few hours and said it's "fucking amazing." He also played co-op, which sounds fantastic.
Call of Duty 3 is a game I will certainly play within two months... its predecessor was one of my favorite games of last year, though I'm not quite as excited about this one... too many other things to work on. IGN gave it an 8.8 last night, so it should be great.

Picked this up last night and have been blazing through it. You start off ranked #200 in the world (or wherever) with the goal of getting to the Top 8, and I just got to #97. So, I wouldn't be surprised if I'm through this by like, Monday. I picked up Need for Speed: Carbon last Friday and finished on Monday.
I haven't played Gears in a couple of days. I'll definitely log some time today once I pry myself away from Project 8 (which honestly isn't that great, but it's still Tony Hawk and I'm still addicted).

in the third act of Gears Of War on harcore difficulty now. damn the environment is awesome looking. someone on some other forum full of goons told me that "casual" difficulty ruins the game. he was right, playing it on hardcore is pretty intense and gives a good challenge.
also still playing Marvel Ultimate Alliance. i want to pick up silver surfer and and bunch of other achievements. i was using cheats on this game and had to play it over to get achievements again. Raven Software is very sneaky. "go ahead use the cheats. but don't expect your e-penis to grow!"

I just got to Act 3 last night. The rainy forest setting is unbelievable... truly the best-looking game released to date on any platform. I'm playing it on Casual and have no problem with it. I'd rather get through it in a timely manner than have to replay sections several times, and Casual is no cakewalk. There have been several sections that I've had to do over and over again. If I like it enough, I'll go back through Hardcore at a later time.
I just cracked 9000 in Achievement Points last night, btw.

I've got this coming on Wednesday for review.

too late. i tried sitting once and playing guitar hero like it was a slide guitar and it worked semi-well. i felt like a tool doing it, but i've done much worse things with guitar hero. like jumping off a chair during a solo and almost taking out three bystandards. and playing a two-player game by myself using a guitar and a controller and trying to do two things at once (i managed to get through a song on medium doing this and getting like a 72% somehow).
and yeah, i'll probably pack up the ole' geetar hero for the weekend. it should be cromulent.

Uno is one of the easiest games in the world to play. Seriously. Just match up colored cards with colored cards or numbers with numbers.
I need to see what time I get out of work, but assuming I'm out at my normal time, I will get home and get settled by 730 or so. But yeah, I will see what time this all pans out for me and will go from there. If not tonight, anytime tomorrow night after 730 will be splendid for me.

yeah andy, FFXII is LONG. im hearing 60-75 hours the first time you play through. im at 25 hours now. the first 5 hours are like all introductions. you arent fully exposed to the combat system until roughly 4 or 5 hours into the game. but once you start getting gambits, its sooooo nice. getting rid of random battles and making combat active and in real time was the best thing they could do for this installment. i only wish i could have 4 ppl in my party. i would really like to use penelo as a magic clothes wearing black mage, but with only 3 ppl in the party, there is too much of a chance of her taking damage. right now im using baasch as a tank, and ashe and vaan as healers who also do good melee damage and wear shields and heavy armor. i switch in fran who is a clothie black/white mage and panelo who is a hard core black mage with awesome mana efficiency as needed
