Thanks... maybe? I'm lost.

Excite Truck for the Wii gives you trophies when you get certain amounts of Truck Smashes and Super Drifts and such, which is heart-smashing, because it makes you realize that an overall points system could have been amazing.

Viva Pinata is still cool. I got occupied with other things after a dozen hours of play and never really got back into it. You've gotta stay focused... believe in the Pinata.

if my memory serves me correctly, it is a mr. show reference. mr. show references = funny.

and yeah, i just might invest in Pinata. I didn't love Animal Crossing, but that was largely because I never wanted to spend the time on it. Now, though, I feel the need to work at a nurturing video game where I do random, mundane shit. Will this fit my quota?

True, Mr. Show references are funny. Though I've only seen the entire series once, and it was a couple years back... so many of the references are lost on me, sadly. mellow.gif

As for the Pinata, yeah, it might do the trick. You may consider renting it first if you're unsure, but then again, if you've got crazy Crizmuzz cazh to blow, then fuck it, make it your own. Though Marvel Ultimate Alliance might be cool, too...

my friend works as a QA tester down in champaign for volition and apparently everyone takes this achievement crap really seriously. When he works phones, over half the calls are people asking why they didn't get any achievement points when they played the game, probably because they put in codes or something. Anyway, yeah, achievements are fucking stupid. Yet another way for nerds who spend way too much time playing online games to pointlessly brag about how great they are. Here's hoping the gamer community doesn't start acting like a bunch of users on gamefaqs or something.

Oh man, my post count is awesome.

Got a review copy coming of this tomorrow or Friday. Probably sucks, but my editors are on vacation for the next week-plus, and I needed to pick enough titles to last me for a while. I likely will not start it until the end of the month, as I'm currently also working on Super Swing Golf (liking it) and Elebits (kinda boring), and I've got Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories begging to be played more. And I'm expecting three or four games for Christmas...

Fuuuuuuck.

i loved MUA. THE MOST kickass team is Blade, Luke Cage, Wolverine & Ghost Rider. They all have hot regeneration skillz; they never die.

got 810 achievement points from that game.
Undercooked Sausage
Really? I think most people would agree that Blade is one of the most useless characters in the game, as far as I know, he can't regen either. The regen characters were Wolverine, Deadpool, and Luke Cage.

My team going through was Deadpool, Thor, Doctor Strange, and Wolverine with my friends. Doctor Strange kept turning everyone into boxes, he was an asshole.
yikes
blade is half-vampire, that's why he's got regeneration. it might not be in his default costume though. Ghost Rider doesn't have regen, but he just kicks so much ass with his special chain attack.
HewlettsDaughter
i picked up Viva Pinata last night. It's pretty fun and seems like it will be one of those addicting games that I will regret buying beause it will officially kill any social life I once tried to have.

Why? For the love of god, why?
Andyroo
The stars aligned!

Mostly because I review games (hopefully for a living within a few months) and it'll allow me to have access to more games and expand my knowledge base a bit. Also, I got a $100 AmEx Gift Cheque from one of the sites I write for, and had $150 in store credit. Still spent over $550 between the system, Resistance: Fall of Man, and accessories. :/

I wouldn't buy it now if I didn't want it for review purposes. Other than Resistance, there's very little worth playing that can't be experienced on the Xbox 360. Actually, I don't think there's anything else coming out that I want until March, when Motor Storm and maybe MLB07 come out. I should be able to get a few review games to keep me busy in the meantime.

Also; I can rent Blu-Ray movies from Netflix, so that'll be cool. I nabbed the DVD remote for it.
Andyroo
More weekend games discussion, stat!

IPB Image

So I'm playing this. I've only played maybe an hour and a half so far, and the best term I have at the moment is adequately great. Everything I've played so far has been of a high quality -- the graphics, the control scheme, the weapons, etc. But nothing has really shocked, surprised, or exceeded expectations yet. That said, the later parts of the game look to be quite excellent, with monstrous bosses and crazier weapons. It reminds me a ton of Half-Life 2 -- and I've never really played HL2, ha. At this point, it doesn't have anything on Gears of War.

I nabbed the Gran Turismo HD Concept free download today. Meh. It looks great, but it's the same old song and dance. Slow, touchy racing. Give me Burnout or Need for Speed, any day.

I beat Elebits for the Wii today; about to write my review. I'm planning on giving it a 6.9/10. It does have some fun moments, especially in the later part of the game, but it's also fairly repetitive and sluggish.

Got a wii for christmas. Yay, it's awesome. Been playing Wii Sports all day, so I'm kinda worn out. I'll go pick up Zelda and something else later this week with christmas cash, anybody able to suggest a great multiplayer game out there yet?

I don't know about a great multiplayer game. I really like Excite Truck, but it only supports two players and just in standard races. Still, it's probably my favorite game on the system so far (though I haven't played enough of Zelda yet).

I got Trauma Center: Second Opinion (Wii), F.E.A.R. (360), Elite Beat Agents (DS), and Yoshi's Island DS for Christmas. Hot. I'll start Trauma Center when I finish up with Super Swing Golf, and maybe start F.E.A.R. when I'm done with Resistance: Fall of Man. Don't want too many active projects on my plate.

Speaking of... I'm going to write my review of Tomb Raider: Legend on DS and get that shit off my mind. Bad port of a great console game.

I'm amazed by the immediate reactions people are having to this. Does it become awesome as soon as you get into the dungeons? I played about three hours of it, and it seems like it has a lot of potential, but I haven't yet been captivated enough to keep on with it.

I last left off where I had just returned to the hometown as the wolf.
Undercooked Sausage
Yeah, the dungeons are great, the first run with the wolfy isn't very fun. As you know, zelda games always start slow, but this one's a real winner.
Andyroo
Cool. I certainly expect to play more in January. Okami started slow too, and is a similar type of game.
Tracy Jacks
I finished off Zelda before Christmas. I also thought it started slow but picked up once you got into the dungeons, particularly by the second dungeon (it even seemed to me that the graphics were weak in the beginning, but picked up as the game went on, although that may be me projecting).

Fantastic game. Probably have enjoyed a game this thouroughly since Resident Evil 4 (Oblivion was fun, but lacking in many areas.).

The dungeons are pretty much uniformly great, which is the heart and sole of Zelda. The overland story starts slow, is outstanding in the middle, but sort of disappears in the end. There could have been more side quests in the overland. The game was a little easy. There were not enough puzzles (beyond the general puzzle nature of the dungeons). I liked the combat with the Wii-mote, particularly the aiming the bow & arrow. However, combat itself was way too easy accept for a couple of the standard monsters, nothing like the 2D Zeldas. But even with the simplistic combat, the Wii-mote made it seem more fun, just slashing around. The bosses this time out were way too easy, I never came close to dying, whereas in Ocarina of time some of the bosses took multiple tries.

Good story. Great art direction. Graphics that did the job. I loved the new weapons Link got, even though they may not have gotten as much use as they should.

All in all it took me 50 hours to complete Zelda, although I did not finish the collecting quests -- Poe souls and golden bugs. I do plan to finish the heart quests, find the fourth jar, and take on the Cave of Ordeals.

I got Castlevania and Kirby for the DS for Xmas. Trying to decide whether to spend Best Buy bucks on Elebits, although I may just decide to borrow a friends copy. Wario Ware Smooth Moves is on the horizon. Oh, and I'll be downloading my first virtual consol game in Super Castlevania IV.
Undercooked Sausage
Yeah, the art direction, particularly in the second dungeon, and the wolf segments, is unbelievable.

The game is too easy but I can't remember the Zelda series ever being anything more than a pushover. I've heard lack of minigames has been a common complaint, good, because i hate minigames.

Skip Elebits and wait for Wario Ware. Elebits wasn't bad, but it gets old pretty quickly. Wario Ware should be spectacularly amusing...

I might pick up Ridge Racer 7 for PS3 today. I know it's not a major upgrade from RR6, but fuck, I want to get more use out of the system. I'm a third of the way through Resistance.

I played this game for 3 hours last night. I. Just. Couldn't. Stop. It has that "just one more song" addictiveness. Then when I finally did close my eyes to go to sleep, all I saw were those wonderful colored number-circles, an effect that hasn't happened since Tetris

I just beat Final Fantasy XII a couple of days ago finally. I can wholeheartedly say I have mixed feelings about the game. I loved the battle system, and no doubt spent more time screwing around with it than I have with any other from an FF on one single playthrough. But the story sucked quite a bit. Just because of that, it's probably my least favorite of any FF from the Playstation generation.

Since I have nothing new to play anymore, I decided to go back to Suikoden Tactics and try to complete it since I haven't yet even though I got the game well over a year ago. And I have Rogue Galaxy to look forward to at the end of next month.

I need a 360 though. I have to get out of this RPG hole I seem to be in lately, and a lot of the more action-y titles on that system look fun enough.

I played quite a bit of the first game, so I expect to be able to play about ten hours of this and be all set to review. I hear much of the content is recycled, anyway.

EDIT: Toys 'R' Us is having a crazy year-end game clearance. Check out the list at Kotaku. Obviously, not everything on sale is at every store (most of it probably isn't), but here's what I just nabbed:

For a total of $40, I couldn't resist. But man, I've got a monstrous stack of games that I may never get around to playing, and I'm blowing crazy cash. Dammit.

I'm not going to make a special trip to another TRU to check out their selection (I was at the Joliet location), but if I'm by one, I'd probably stop in to see what's what. I'd love to nab Amplitude again for only $5.

Wii's are selling on ebay in $350 range. Not too far above cost, but that's still an extra $100. Some PS3's are selling at pretty close to cost...so it looks like the demand from early adopters is dying. I'm sure PS3 will do fine in the long run...but that $600.00 pricing strategy is looking pretty stupid right now.

Best bet for grabbing a Wii may be Best Buy right now. They have been hoarding Wiis and PS3s in order to have a certain number in their stores on some Sundays. Best Buy has been advertising this in their Sunday supplement saying the min number of systems that they will have in each store. Ticket are handed out one our before opening. Last Sunday at the Deerfield Best Buy they had Wiis and PS3s for sale. They did not have many people standing in line before opening, it was raining, so they had plenty of systems for those who were there at the opening (my friend did this, grabbed a PS3.) I don't know if they are doing this every Sunday, though.

Target has been getting Wiis and PS3s on a regular basis. However, their policy is that they go on sale as soon as they get them and put them on the floor. So getting them at Target is a matter of being in the right place at the right time. However, this is how another friend got his PS3.

My lesson in this -- I need better friends, one's who prefer Wiis to PS3s.
