No worries. Neversoft has always delivered quality product (even the worst Tony Hawk game is better than a lot of other junk), and it would be hard to fuck up Guitar Hero at this point.

Hell, Harmonix created the Karaoke Revolution games, but handed the latest version (the American Idol one) to Blitz Games (creators of the BK games). It's just as good as the old stuff.

lets hope. i'm still not sure if i am willing to put the money down on gh2 for 360 after already having it for ps2. i think i'll see what downloadable songs they have to offer first.

I borrowed a GC and played through this for the first time recently. Beat it over the holidays. Great shit. Anyone bored with their Wii ('cuz they beat Zelda and Wii Sports is only fun in multiplayer) should pick this up and a GC controller. One of the best single-player campaign games I have ever played. Incredible.

Every possible death of Leon. Some great stuff here I never saw while playing.

Once you've got the Chicago Typewriter you can just blow through this game. But in such a fucking fun and still satisfying way.

I beat it last night, i dunno if I have the energy for a second playthrough right now though.

I had something like 100 shotgun shells at the end of the game because i used the pistol on pretty much everything but bosses.

Anyone ever played any of the Persona games? The plots sound fantastic.

Persona:
"The first Persona game, known in Japan as Megami Ibunroku Persona: Be Your True Mind, focused on the main character and his friends at St. Hermelin High School in the city of Lunarvale. After playing a ritual-like game called "Persona", the hero and company end up passing out. While asleep, they meet a man who calls himself Philemon, represented with a golden butterfly. After waking up, the youths eventually discover they can summon other "selves", or Persona, with incredible powers. Meanwhile, Guido Sardenia, head of the powerful SEBEC corporation, has invented a machine to create and allow passage to an alternate dimension using electromagnetic waves. These waves end up coming from the mind of Mary Sonomura, a frail bedridden girl and friend of the main character's. Confined to a hospital bed, Mary has trouble interacting with others, and holds a fantasy world in her mind which is nearly identical to the real world save for her being healthy. While visiting Mary in the hospital, the main character and his other friends are inadvertently transported to Mary's "ideal world", where they must contend with leagues of demons and three different aspects of Mary to find their way back to their own world and save the real Mary."

Persona 2:
"A few years after the events of the first title, Tsumi occurs in the fictional Sumaru City. The main focus of the game is the subjective nature of reality, with rumors holding the power to literally alter the face of reality and change the world itself.

The protagonist of the story is a young High School student, Suou Tatsuya, whose path becomes intertwined with two other students, Mishina Eikichi and Lisa Silverman, as they encounter the enigmatic, rumored Joker-sama, a mysterious being who will appear before anyone who calls themselves on their own cell phone, and offers to grant their deepest wishes. Anyone who fails to tell Joker-sama their wishes, either because they lack one or do not wish to tell, will have their life energy stolen, turning them into Shadow People. Upon meeting the three students, Joker-sama is angered that they do not recognize him, as he claims they have done something horrible to him in the past. Swearing revenge, he departs, leaving the three students confused, and eager to investigate about this Joker-sama, after they have released their Personae and met with the enigmatic Philemon."

I played this game for 3 hours last night. I. Just. Couldn't. Stop. It has that "just one more song" addictiveness. Then when I finally did close my eyes to go to sleep, all I saw were those wonderful colored number-circles, an effect that hasn't happened since Tetris
I'm still playing the hell out of this. Once you get into the groove of a song, it's just so much fun. Also, the difficulty ramp-up is awesome--each new song and difficulty level is just a little harder than the one you just finished. Very highly recommended to all with a DS

5 dungeons in, got all the free heart containers and the blue ring, will probably finish this shit tomorrow.

I've been meaning to beat this game now for about 3 years. Ever since I made it up to the 6th dungeon and lost my shield, I kinda lost the fire to go on. Add to that school and everything, and I kinda forgot about it. I'm probably gonna start over next time I play since I forgot nearly everything I did. Also, are you playing this on an emulator or on the original NES? I'm old school al the way.

Also, I got a Wii about 3 weeks ago, so you can guys expect to see a lot more of me in this thread. I've been holding off on buying Twilight Princess until I got a job, but when my friend bought The Wind Waker for me as a graduation/Christmas gift, I kinda got carried away and started buying a few more Gamecube games. The Wii is the newest system I've had since the Super Nintendo, so the fact that it plays Gamecube games is extremely sweet. Here's what's been taking up my time.

That does it. When I buy another Wii-mote and Nunchuk, I'm getting an USB connector and some points so I can get my Virtual Shop on. Punch-Out and Metroid have been calling me. I still buy a lot of Nintendo and Super Nintendo games, but I'm gonna try out the Virtual Shop and see it how feels. I may still get an N64 instead of buying the games online because who knows how long it will be before games from third party developers become available for purchase.

you guys diggin the Crackdown demo on 360?

Pretty fun, but once you level up a few times theres a 30 min. timer.....

I plan on nabbing that shortly.

I've spent the last couple days playing GT Pro Series on Wii. What a crappy game. It's a direct port of a 2003 GameCube game, but it looks and plays like a PSone game. Sad. Might review that tonight and get it off my plate.

I played the first one. I always felt it was a very solid, overlooked RPG. The negotiation system was a lot of fun. However, the series is INCREDIBLY Japanese, so you have to be down with that. Also, the dungeons are presented in a first person view maze format, so you have to be comfortable with that. I rented it out and was on pace to beat it until I ran into a dungeon with a maze I just couldn't navigate.

PRO TIP: The series lets you select the last member of your party as verious people offer to fill the role. Hold out as long as possible for the badass overpowered loner character.

I just went to two Meijer stores looking for MVP Baseball 2005. I suddenly want to buy the game for the fourth time... might consider keeping it this time, as well.

GameStop apparently sells it for $8 now, so I'll pick up a used copy tomorrow. I'm probably getting a review copy of MVP 07 NCAA Baseball early next month, but I want the MLB game.
Dread
Ah, MVP 2005. Good times, that game. I hit 73 homeruns in a season with Aaron Rowand.
Andyroo
It was even cheaper at the store. $4.99!

Five bucks for the greatest baseball game of all-time ever. I think I'll actually keep it this time around.

Man, those rosters are going to be fucked.
Andyroo
I'm thinking about picking up last year's Tiger Woods game for the Xbox 360. I hear it's light on the feature set, but Meijer has it for $20.

I've never really played much of the series in the past, so I'm just looking for something recent, affordable, and attractive to get me started. Will this fit the bill?

That's the best part about annual sports games, as soon as they are out of date they depreciate quicker than any other video game out there making them a steal.
Dread
Yeah, I sold my copy of MVP 2005 just as soon as the real season ended. I think I ended up getting $15-20 for it online. I knew if I waited any longer I couldn't get that much for it.

Supposed to be the last good/great RPG for the PS2, I guess. It's been getting positive reviews, and all the problems with the game generally seem to be the same. I don't think it'll bother me much, and it looks really fun. I just hope I have time to play it with an impending new job on the horizon.

Yeah, I worked at GameStop for over four years. You've gotta trade 'em in before six months passes or they'll drop like a rock. Even sooner, these days. Still, I thought that maybe because it was the last major-league MVP that it would still be $10+ used (especially since no MLB game since has been better rated). Oh well, my gain.

I just picked up that Tiger Woods for 360. I'll hopefully get my $20 worth. I just want to get to know the series better so I'll be able to review a newer version in the future (perhaps the Wii version). I've always loved the Hot Shots Golf series (and similar games), but have never gotten into the realistic stuff.

Rogue Galaxy looks pretty great. If I didn't have a constant stream of stuff to play for review (not to mention a stack of things I bought and have yet to play), I'd consider picking it up. Early reviews have been excellent.

Should have these coming for review on/around Thursday. I have zero interest in playing Open Season, but I really wanted an opportunity to play Ratchet and Clank for PSP, especially two weeks before it hits retail. I'll have to do both a preview and a review for it, so preview next week and review the week after. Should be pretty great; Daxter for PSP was awesome. Anyway, review games are typically assigned in duos, so I had to request Open Season to get Ratchet and Clank. Oh well.

I'm currently working on Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 2 for Wii. Hahaha.

Wake up, thread.

I spent all weekend playing Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters for PSP. Just had a chance to play online with the developers and other journalists. Excellent game, both online and off. I've already finished it, yet I need to write a preview tonight... I should've done that earlier. ohmy.gif

I've also been playing Guitar Hero II, going through the game on Hard with the Nyko FrontMan Wireless Guitar that I was sent for review. It's an excellent guitar -- feels and plays just like the official wired ones -- but its $60 price is the same as the official wireless one, so I'm not sure it has much of a chance on the market. They should drop the price to $50.

Wake up, thread.

Post Christmas video game drought.

The video game industry has developed the same pattern as the movie industry -- all sorts of stuff released before Christmas/New Year, so much so that you can't play/see everything, followed by 3 months of nothing.

I'll wait on the reviews of Diddy Kong Racing and Lunar Knights, coming out this week on the DS, but I can't say I'm overly excited about either.
Andyroo
There's certainly a quantity disparity, but there are still plenty of great games hitting the shelves. You just have to dig a bit for 'em.

After all, this month has Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters, Crackdown, Virtua Fighter 5, SSX Blur, and a couple of baseball games. And I'm sure there are a couple others as well, but that's the stuff on my radar...

I didn't like Diddy Kong Racing much the first time, so there's no chance of that entering my DS.
SpacemanSpiff
Just finished Zelda: Twilight Princess the other day. Great game, great ending, but abit too easy for me. I'm now moving on to Contra 3 Alien Wars from the Virtual Console, a game I never beat while it was on the SNES.

Are you getting that for Static? How's that been lately? I talk to Eric here and there, but I'm not really doing much for them these days. I have a review copy of Untold Legends: Dark Kingdom for PS3 sitting around, but I've been holding out on playing it until the IGN thing resolves itself.

I'll be spending the weekend (hopefully) blazing through Open Season for Wii, and also likely playing a bit more of Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal so I have a better basis for comparison for my review of the PSP Ratchet & Clank game (which is great).

IPB Image IPB Image

I'm being sent these for review from WorthPlaying. I didn't plan on taking any additional games until I heard back about the IGN gig, but they didn't get back to me yet, so I figured I'd keep on working. My editors are fine with the possibility that I might have to send something back if I can't finish it because of a career opp. Those should be here on Monday, so I'll have Virtua Fighter 5 a week-plus before it hits retail. Scoooooore.
beansimpson
So I started up a second runthrough of Resident Evil 4 when I had some free time yesterday. The game is a lot less scary and easier when you know when the bad guys come at you and you know how many there are in an area. And you cover a lot more ground in a shorter amount of time.
Dread
RE4 is going to be a definite purchase somewhere down the line. It's been on my used radar for awhile, but I don't want to buy it quite yet. It will actually be my first RE game.

Despite starting a new job and working quite a lot, I've still managed to clock in 10 hours since Friday on Rogue Galaxy. It's definitely a RPG that you have to grind away on, but I don't mind it. After all, I've played through FFXII and DQVIII. The story is simple and pretty vague right now, but it has yet to get started. The characters are well developed, even if the game (probably, from what I've heard) won't really get that deep into what makes them tick. Graphics are good too, but I really wish they would use better facial animations on the characters. Most last-gen games generally do use simplistic animations, but it's all the time. At least the developers of games like the more recent FFs and Kingdom Hearts went the extra mile sometimes.

I just picked up Wii Play. Which is about the same as saying, "I just bought a (third?) Wiimote and got this silly little game for $10." Except I didn't need a third Wiimote, and I probably didn't need Wii Play. But I digress...

I'll talk about it s'more later after I've played around with it. Otherwise, I'm working on Virtua Fighter 5 (PS3), Untold Legends: Dark Kingdom (PS3), and Capcom Puzzle World (PSP).
