Well, clearly Fox has chosen to greenlight some Arrested Development progeny. I've managed to catch a few of these lately.

Free Ride is worth a look, but the characters are so far off the charts, especially the parents, as to make the whole thing feel a little desperate. The lead kid is kinda bland, and so you don't really care if he's going to wind up with the girl. Plus, the longer he stays at home, the more pathetic and ultimately less funny the premise will become.

The Loop is one of those shows I came predisposed to dislike, largely because most folks don't do the Chicago show thing right. The first two I watched were solid, and Philip Baker Hall and Mimi Rogers provide some quality oddballishness, but then this week's episode just was off-the-charts funny, which was really unexpected. Nice cameo from Adam Brody--which to me was the first indication he might be talented. If any more episodes are this funny, look for this to get canceled quickly.

these also had me wondering what happened to that Schwartzman/Deschanel/Shannon comedy that had on a year or two back--that was pretty quirky, too.

Check out Sons and Daughters.

It's like ABC said "Oh shit, let's make something like The Office and Arrested Development combined because people like this kind of stuff now," and it actully works.

Both episodes I caught were very funny.

Is this the show where they had a shot of O'Hare and there were mountains in the background?

Was trying to find that on the guide the other day--when the hell is it on?

I caught the Loop for the first time this week
It's like Scrubs, but set up at an airline and with hot chicks in bikinis
oh, and not as funny

Tuesdays at 8, opposite Scrubs, naturally.

From ABC website: The next episode has not yet been scheduled. Check back soon for more information!

See, it's just like Arrested Development.

It's been a good season for Scrubs. No wonder I've missed it.

Yeah. We've only seen a couple episodes because the TiVo is set up with Sons & Daughters on low priority. Basically if Scrubs is a re-run or not on, it will record it. I should set the bedroom TiVo up to record Sons & Daughters.

I hope the baby doesn't ruin Scrubs. Babies on comedies usually spell doom.

Man, I happened to catch that first episode of The Loop...awful. I don't watch much TV, and that crap reminded me why. It was real bad. But what do I know huh.gif .
without_opinion
the "info" on comcast digital cable last night listed the loop episode as the Season Finale, for what it's worth.

Yeah, the most recent one was the only one I thought was laugh-out-loud funny, but most sitcoms start slow. (AD being a notable exception.)

I saw maybe the last 10 minutes of The Loop last night and I found it it to be quite funny. I mean I laughed out loud. The Adam Brody cameo was nice.

has it? this has been the first season i've watched it and think it's absolutely brilliant. well, not brilliant. but it makes me laugh more than anything else on tv.... so, i just naturally wondered had it always been like this? a friend told me this was the best season so far, but, i tend not to agree with him ever, so.

anyway, why did i never watch this show before? let's talk about scrubs for a few moments.
Midnite_Vulture
The Loop definitely has its moments. I don't think it's quite found its voice yet. I can't wait for it to hit its stride though.

The pilot for Free Ride was so unbearable that I show like this could never be funny.

Sons & Daughters comes off as too forced sometimes, but I'm willing to give both of these shows another shot if they've shown some improvement like you guys seem to be saying.

yeah basically. I don't know if I'd say it was exactly funny, but it was amusing enough. Especially the Adam Brody parts--totally logical extension of his OC character. One complaint--who the fuck grows up fantasizing about Courtney Taylor? Not only are the Dandy Warhols total wash-ups, but that dude's ugly as hell.

Haven't seen Sons and Daughters, but it looks like producers saw AD and thought to themselves "dysfunction sells, let's make another show about a family that hates each other but is quirky enough to make up for it". Blugh.
MattW
The Loop gets a good one in here and there. But the hot tub? What neighborhood are these guys living in and what's the rent? They really take the gratuitous TNA to a new level. But that's FOX.

Good line from the one I saw:

"Hey Sarah Jessica Parker! Why the long face?"

You say this like it's a bad thing.

Caught both of these shows, haven't seen "Sons & Daughters," the previews for that really turned me off.

The Loop had its moments but I was only half-watching.

Free Ride had a couple of moments and I only caught it during commercials for something else.

Scrubs is damn good. Glad I'm finally catching it for a change.

By far the best spawn of Arrested is ABC's Sons and Daughters. Excellent cast of mostly no-names, Dee Wallace of E.T./Cujo/The Howling fame and the polish dude from Barney Miller. Most of the dialogue is improvised and the talent pulls it off well. Better catch it soon because it'll probably be cancelled by June.

Edit- Shit- only read slackies initial post.
