Don't really know much. Got the album and my comp hasn't exploded yet. The ones near the top are just megaupload. Others... dunno... but they seem to work.

while i agree overall it's better, there's still not a single track as good as Laminated Cat or Chinese Apple for me.

Hey Chicken is great tho

That BYOP album was appaling rubbish. Sickpup was spot on with that one.

the new Appleseed Cast album, Peregrine, due out March 21st, leaked last week

musically it's pretty fucking killer. song/melody wise not quite grown on me too much yet, but pretty sure i'll end up liking it more than Two Conversations (had a few really great tracks tho still).

still pretty sure Low Level Owl 1 & 2 was mostly pure luck, but whatever, still 2 of my fave albums of the 00's.

and as for the new PGMG, only listened once but i dig it. way way diff sound for them, but the new stuff they played opening for Franz indicated that already. Accordion, Horns, etc. totally adored Good Health, New Romance had some really great tracks but didn't dig it nearly as much overall.

edit: new Sepultura, Dante XXI, leaked as well

01/24 Cat Power - The Greatest
01/24 Jenny Lewis - Rabbit Fur Coat
01/24 Tortoise & Bonnie Prince Billy - The Brave And The Bold
03/01 Mogwai - Mr. Beast
03/07 Isobel Campbell & Mark Lanegan - Ballad of the Broken Seas
03/07 I Love You But I've Chosen Darkness - Fear Is On Our Side
03/21 Loose Fur - Born Again In The U.S.A.

Band of Horses - Everything All the Time

I like some but not all of the Cat Power record;
I listened to Rabbit Fur Coat twice and then deleted it;
The Oldham/Tortoise record is pretty out there;
Standard Mogwai album: three or four great ones and a bunch of other stuff;
Campbell & Lanegan should be good so I'm going to give it more time;
I Love You... seems intriguing but might not have the legs to go the distance;
The Loose Fur album is OK but O'Rourke's voice takes ages to get used to.

Anyone have a link for the Band of Horses record?

i think this thread is making me even more jaded. time to send some more kids to Nam.

the kooks album is much better than i expected. i wish they were getting even a fraction of the attention that the monkeys are receiving.
Mitchell
Kooks getting enough attention to get a top 20 album this week, their album is better then WPSIA,TWIN.

Clearlake's album is also worth checking out.

Editors album reached #2 last week which is quite good as no-one media outlet swarmed over the record, they weren't nominated for any brits. It was simply a price reduction to £6.99 by the record label and timly re-release of Munich that seems to have done the trick. The album had quitely sold 200,000 before Christmas anyway.

The same priciple applies to Hard-Fi whose debut went to #1 but with a lot stronger rotation of the re-issued singles (commercial radio weren't touching Editors.) and a large marketing campaign. Also to Arcade Fire whose Funeral had previous peaked between #41 and #50 four times in 2005 (again quietly shifting 100K and being in the 6Music chart for 37 weeks.) but the EOY praise has pushed it in to the top 40 which it has risen from #36 to #34 and is now at #33.

Completely OTM. Although since I can only stomach The Dec's in small doses, I'm not keen on this one.

IYL Dec's, Fiery Furnaces, or Dresden Dolls.....

Fiery Furnaces, or Dresden Dolls.....

Yeah, I thought of those too, but more like a tolerable version. I especially hate the latter.
Mitchell
I preffer Amber, Have you heard Lido (it wasn't much, don't look for it.) I like the way they have progressed. The lyrics are much deeper and darker (well heartbroken) but instead of becoming maundalin they have a real snap and energy to the songs that took me by surprise when I first listened. (the UK tracklisting sucks monkey nads, the US order makes so much more sense.)
solace
production on Ambers is def better.

i don't know if there's a song on it that i enjoy more than "Almost The Same" yet tho, but overall it is really solid.

surprised that song didn't do anything here in '03 (besides WOXY playing it sometimes)
