Yeah, let's do this! Liked the debut, maybe a little uneven, but overall good, solid 7/10. Have high hopes for this followup, which I've heard nothing from.

Yeah it's real. The transcode thing just means the quality isn't as good as it's reported to be. It still sounds fine to my ears.

A transcode is when you take a file encoded at x kbps and re-encode it to have a higher (or lower by definition, but it's rarely associated with that) bitrate than the original. For example, The Streets leak was probably 160 kpbs CBR originally, then someone took that, re-encoded it to be 172 kbps VBR. Re-encoding something that's already in a lossy format (like mp3) degrades it's quality, even if you re-encode at a higher bitrate. So basically you're getting something advertised to be better than it really is, and worse than it would be if it was just left alone.

If someone else was writing lyrics for the Zutons, they'd be a lot better band and I'd like them a whole lot more. Musically I can dig it, but it's just very dull and predictable word-wise, and when you listen to something well thought out and intelligent, such as Destroyer, then these weaknesses are that much more apparent to you.

Okay, I get it. I actually did that three months ago, burning the Rachel Stevens album and re-ripping it back to mp3, unaware of the quality decline until after I'd heard it. Still have to re-download that one.

hey, no problemo...if i merely liked this album at first, now its beginning to
really grow on me. this has somehow become one of my current favs, right up there with the big names released so far. again, i really didnt think any of their earlier work was that good, but this is completely different for me. less gimmicky, less annoying. their new direction reminds me of Aphex Twin crossed with the Notwist (the vocals are especially similar).

I really like The Warning too. My favorite song is Over and Over too. Although I think they knicked something off of one of Madonnas new singles. Nothing wrong with that.

im not sure if youre crazy

, but there does seem to be a strong Postal Service vibe to this record, especially with the slower tracks. i still maintain that the song "Careful" sounds kinda like the Go! Team, if they traded in their pompoms for the blips and bleeps of μ-ziq.
